I've got no prayer teachers to teach me to pray. I know it's hard. Just like witnessing to people and preaching. You've got to learn it. And that's what I'm doing with prayer. What does it mean to wrestle with God in prayer? How does one keep prayer long? I usually end of things to say to God. And I don't really hear much back. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. All I can usually sense is the Holy Spirit. When I do pray, I pray that God talks to me, and reveals His glory to me, so He can use me. I get teared up, then it just stops

Johnny Cash says in a line from a song - "I talk to Jesus every day, and he listens to every word I say, no secretary ever tells me he's been called away, I talk to Jesus every day". Personally I often say "Jesus remember me" any number of times throughout each day if I'm feeling low.In a sense, talking to Jesus is like touching him to get a 'free power download' in much the same way as the woman with a haemorrhage touched his cloak and was cured - "After Jesus spent the night in prayer, everybody tried to touch him because power was coming from him" (Luke 6:19)Jesus said - "Someone touched me, I know that power has gone out from me." (Luke 8:46)

So, how should I pray. Most importantly, how do I pray so I talk to God directly?

How I pray is that I sit on my knees, put two hands together and then pray to YHWH in the name of Yahshua.

(Whatever you pray on)Lovest thou in Christ Jesus (Yahshua) our Lord and Saviour.

I find a quit place to sit and I close my eye for about five minutes (usualy do this in the shower becuae people leave me alone then and the sound of running water relaxes me) in meditation and then I pray for a few minutes thanking God and then talking with HIm. And then, for 20 minutes, I sit and listen to Him.

Hi Wakka,The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray and this is what he said about the matter.Matthew 6:5-15 (King James Version) 5.And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6.But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. 7.But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8.Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. 9.After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10.Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11.Give us this day our daily bread. 12.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13.And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14.For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15.But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. When I was about 16-17 year old the Lord showed me in a dream how the the Lords prayer works in all situations of our lives no matter what that situtation is. The enemy had been sending me nightmares and in my sleep I felt I had no strength to run from the evil persuing me. Then I started to pray the Lords prayer and the evil could not hold me, it could not draw me and I found freedom and Strength to run and get away from the enemy.I have learned that this prayer when prayed in obedience to the truth believing what Christ said is all we need. I talk with the LORD all day he is my thoughts and in my being. But his truth sets us free and it refreshes and equips us when we are in battles we do not know how to fight. I thank the Lord for the good things our heavenly Father has given us. But as Jesus said, his mother, brothers and sisters are those who hear the word of God and obey it. I talk with the Lord about everything. But I know he knows all my needs like your prayer need. With true knowledge about the Lords prayer you can pray in confidence knowing everything you need God will provide.I pray the Lords truth and love in the Lords prayer may be known to you always, now and for ever,Love Faithful.xx:) :angel9:Its not the length of our prayers but our faith to trust what the Father has taught us in Christ Jesus our Lord.Shalom.

Some great examples in scripture of prayer is in Psalms. Dont worry about articulate pretty words and eloquent speech. God would rather hear 1 word from the heart than 1000 fluffy good sounding but heartless prayers. Remember that prayer is talking to God. Even voicing complaints like "god i dont understand why this is going on", "i Dont like this", etc is ok. David complained to God ALLOT in Psalms but he would always throw in things like "nevertheless, I praise you". He was being honest by complaining, and would admit he didnt understand why God would allow this or that to happen, but he still trusted God and would praise him.If you run out of things to say, dont worry. God doesnt time how long your prayers are. He would rather you stop and listen when you run out of stuff instead of just rattling on and on trying to make prayers longer.Pray, listen, and if you have allot of time left to fill, start praising and worshiping him

You probably pray more than you think, even if in a fragmented manner.I like to base my structure of prayer based on the way Jesus taught..... "Our Father, which art in heaven....." After all, we are to pray in that manner. And if one looks carefully at it, it basically involves praise, the coming of His Kingdom, and supplying our teaching (our daily bread) so that we hear the true Word. Then, read the Word. That's listening to God. I find that several times more important than "talking with God" because in truth, true prayer is just the spirit of God returning from where it came from, and that is from the Word. One cannot truly pray without the Word in other words. And lastly, something you do not hear much but is a biblical mandate: pray for the peace of Jerusalem. As Christians, we know that's effectively the same as praying for Christ's return and rule.

((( Wakka))), Sounds like you are being touched by God's Spirit. It happens to me when I pray ... God's Holy Spirit moves upon me and my heart is filled with so much joy .

Here is a few scriptures I have read concerning prayer: Romans 8:26-27 (KJV) 26 Likewise the Sprit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. ~~~~~~Prayers are to be from the heart and done humbly, not with long drawn out fancy words. *prayer is a child's petition to an all wise, all loving, and all powerful, Father-God. The Lord's Prayer teaches us that right prayer begins with worship, puts the interest of the Kingdom before merely personal interest; accepts beforehand the Father's will, whether to grant or withhold. *~~~~Doing my quiet time, before I pray, I will read a passage from the Bible or sing a Spiritual song, this helps me to relax, become centered and focus on Him. I pray before my day starts, doing my day (simple like "God help Me or God give me strength") and end of day. I make sure that I thank Him for all the blessings of that day. ~~~ :blessyou:

I've had this same problem myself. I finally decided to by a journal and write letters to God. These are my prayers. All I do is talk to him. Tell ya what. I'll post here the very first prayer that is in my journal.
July 6, 2007Dear Father in HeavenI'm trying a new way to pray and worship you, and that is by writing my prayers in this journal. As you know, I got back word from Dr. Ashendorf who tells me I have an attention problem, bad processing speed in my head and trouble organizing things in my head which causes me to forget. The attention problem could be due to ADHD.Father, what scares me now is whether I have brain damage or cancer. Please give me the courage to face this alone, by myself, since these things usuallty come out fine. But as you know, this kind of thing makes me nervous. My life rests in your loving care as it shoud.Amen.
Just talk to God as if he was your father or a very good friend. That's what I do. Good luck.Peteps - It turned out that they gave me a prescription of Ritilan and that took my depression away. The horrible depression that I've had and have been praying to be cured of over the last 17 years is now finally gone!

Hello and God Bless Every-1 . The thing about praying is there is no certain way of doing it the Lord knows what is in your heart and what you will say even before you do. Just talk to him as you would talk to a friend because he is your friend the best one you can have. Because if God be for me, who can be against me. I think why people become so nervous when it comes to prayer is because we were taught there are certain ways and so forth from RELIGION. I say it that way because all religion has done is put the Lord in a box that he died for us to come out of. So pray with your heart and he will hear and answer when the time is right for your answer. As it says there is a time and sesason for everything.
