The word "authority " is an unpopular word with some people. [ Luke 10:16 ] They feel no need to submit to any ecclesiastic or religious authority. They will say, as evident from watching the film, that, "I admire and chose to follow the Christian ideal, but I'm not going to follow any rigid formulas , dogmas and rules that will deprive me of any freedom and personality".
Can't you see, unfortunately , that these people have missed the whole point. Whatever their way of life may be called, it is certainly not Christianity. It is a private philosophy and should be recognized as such. As far as it goes, it may be good, but it must not be mistaken for something which it is not.
If true Christianity was only the product of our individual minds and desires then there would be no need for an authority outside ourselfs. If it was just a Christianity of just "me and Jesus " with each person adapting an ideal to their own personality, then one person's idea would be just as good as the next person's, clinging to a personal interpretation or adaptation to what each of these people perseive equates to Christian chaos and confusion, as we have witnessed since the Reformation.
As the Bible shows us; All Authority was given only to His apostles and their successors. And those successors of the apostles have continued this method of Christ's Christianity only in His One and only Apostolic Church i.e. Luke 10:16 , Matt. 16: 18, Matt. 28:18- 19, 20; John 20: 21. today only from apostles Peter and Andrew along possibly with Thomas.

seems to me that without practice submitting to authority in this life, it will only get tougher in the next. We are a rebellious people and we need this life to practice our sanctification - submitting to authority is part of it.

Christ is the final authority, many choose to submit to Him and not men and His denominations. There is one truth, it is in Christ, not mens doctrines or rules.

Earthly authority was set up by God.

Christ came to establish the church, not religion. Seems some do not understand what the young man in the video is trying to teach,...the Pharisees did not understand Jesus either...

It seems to me that the young man is one of the people who didn't understand what he was trying teach. It may be popular to preach an anti-religious message within Protestant circles, but it was never considered by Christians before the Reformation. Christ rebuked the Pharisees because they lacked the spirit of the law or love, not because they were religious. They were preaching the wrong religion - it was empty. Religion is just language we use to relate to God.

you just proved his point, religion causes division and wars, your use of Protestants and Reformation, blah, blah, blah. religious names, is about religion that divides.

Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for many reasons, one was they were more concerned about Jewish tradition (religion) than truth, and because of that were blinded to the fact God was right in front of their faces.

When Church's argue about being Catholic, Protestant or Reformed, that is religion, that is not of God, but man. Man = Religion

Without religion (the language we use to relate with God) we would not know who God is or how He wants to relate with us - our theology would be unorthodox and God would no be able to be known intellectually.

Dualism causes wars.

It takes no religion for me to have a conversation with God, or to praise Him, I just do it anywhere any time. God can hear me no matter where I am,

Mat_18:3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

And so as a child to Him I shall Go. Religion puts men into bondage, religion causes division.

1Co 1:12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
1Co 1:13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?

There is one God, one Jesus ( word) one Holy Spirit, one church built on revelation. Its men that causes division, with all His doctrines and churches.

Sadly, there is much religion on this forum.

religion is part of us - it canot be separated; just like Christ's divinity and His humanity cannot be separated. Gnostics liked to commit the heresy of separating our evil flesh from the good spirit - in the same way we like to separate 'religion' from 'the Body of Christ' - it is an artifical separation.

This speaker does not know what religion is.

'Going through the motions' of religious exercise without engaging the spirit is a commentary on the pewsitter not their religion.

Paul was commenting on the Pharisee's lack of spiritual engagement, not their doctrine. The Pharisees were dead right.

We are saved by Jesus's works, but we need to practice those works by loving God and our neighbor.

How far out in left field must the speaker be for aspen to be on the right of him ;) But aspen you are absolutely spot on, the speaker knows nothing of what religion is. This is just a recycled age old heresy of "spiritual but not religious."

“Spiritual but not Religious?” This just a euphmism for the person being too lazy to look beyond their adolescent bias. They are too lazy to learn what it means to be truly religious. They are too smug and shallow and immature to ever regard anything greater than themselves as greater than themselves. It's a Protestant version of Manichaeistic Dualism with the Church as the "evil" and the self as the "good".

It may sound spiritual and pious but people who teach this are akin to the description in Isaiah 56:10-11. No man is an island and no teaching without a teacher. Christ is the Head, the Bible is the book, but the Pastor is the teacher/student and the congregation their flock. Notice that all of Paul's letters are addressed to entire congregations or to pastors, never is he addressing an individual as a "religion unto himself."

so depending on Christ alone for my salvation is heresy...be very careful friend with the words you so easily say, for the one sin that will not be forgiven is to balsaming the Holy Spirit.

Jesus=Holy Spirit

I do not need your religious eucherius, (communion), your religious baptism, all I need is Jesus,....that is not new age spiritualism, this is what Christ Himself said on the Cross...."IT IS FINISHED"!!!!!!!

When I practice the Lords Supper, and submit to baptism, is not for receiving or keeping my salvation, it is to honor my Lord, and Savior. As apostle Paul proclaimed, anything added to Christ grace freely given....is nothing but a pile of DUNG

I will not judge your salvation, but I will judge your false teachings.

Ruth, sorry to have to inform you but the Catholic interpretation is the only correct understanding, as we must understand to remember that when He said that He wasn't dead and thus not yet resurrected. So, it is not finished regarding the Redemption.

If Jesus had died and never raised from the dead Himself, Satan would've won and the Redemption was not done!

Fortunately, He resurrected; thus, the apostles believe and their faith continues on until today.

so depending on Christ alone for my salvation is heresy...

So many errors to correct so I'll start here with this one...

I said no such thing that you are attributing to me, this is putting words in my mouth (strawman fallacy) and then attacking what you halucinated I said.

Jesus=Holy Spirit

That is merely a resurfacing of the age old heresy Binitarianism... more proof there is nothing new under the sun. What these so called revelations the speakers are whispering in their unsuspecting flock's ears have been all said and disproven many times over the centuries.

I do not need your religious eucherius, (communion), your religious baptism, all I need is Jesus,....that is not new age spiritualism, this is what Christ Himself said on the Cross...."IT IS FINISHED"!!!!!!! ummmm... Holy Communion and Baptism weren't invented by the church, they were COMMANDED BY CHRIST HIMSELF for His church and I think you have missed the point entirely of each of those ordinances.

And finally...

I will not judge your salvation, but I will judge your false teachings.

I carefully crafted my response against the speaker you linked to, not to you, so all of this is merely ad hominum... but I have a thick skin. After all, I've been called worse by better.

The point still all comes down to who we should listen to. We can and should have respect for our religious leaders in Christ's Church. But that does not mean we should heed everything they may say or teach, just as those at Berea verified in Holy Writ for themselves as to what Apostle Paul was teaching, and he commended them for it (Acts 17).

Furthermore, we were well warned about many false prophets coming in the last days, and a lot of those are in Christ's Church today. So that's why many brethren in the Church are starting to clearly see a battle going on today right within the Church, because of false ones creeping in, and it's causing mistrust in general of religous leadership, when each case should be weighed instead of blaming the whole concept of the Assembly.
