Here is an interesting chart that breaks down the Bible into chapters, verses, and words. How long do you think it would take someone to cover His Word if they only get a verse or two per week as taught in many churches? But then we have those who say I understand God's Word... I read the Bible once! Below are a couple of figures we put together. One chapter a day would take 3.25 years. One verse a day would take 85.21 years. One chapter a week would take 22.86 years. One verse a week would take 598.11 years. Where do you fit in? There is a big difference between reading and understanding His Word. It would appear to me that we have a long way to go! Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (John 5:39) We can search the scriptures because they point to Christ, but we must also come to Christ, because He is the one who gives eternal life. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (I Timothy 4:16) If we stay true to what is right by God's Word, He will bless us and use us to help others. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II Timothy 2:15) Work hard in His Word so we are not ashamed when God examines our work. Know what His Word says and means.BOOK ..... CHAPTERS.... VERSES ...... We could read the Bible from beginning to end and still not know everything. That is why we must study His word not just skim through it. I read my Bible every day and when I go back over what I read, sometimes I find that God has open my eyes and I understand it better.... but I study then study some more..

The Old Testament is long, not really important."In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away." (Hebrews 8:13)We should only read it, if we're through with the New.

The Old Testament is not important? That is completely rubbish.II Timothy 3:16 - All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:Matthew 5:17-18 - Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.Love much, JagLovest ye in Christ Yahshua our Lord and Saviour.

I know what you mean, I myself do read it. It's just for those new to the bible,I suggest that they read first The New Testament before going to The Old Testament. And in the Old Testament, there are laws not applicable today, like laws in eating. Yes, it is important.

Yes, we aren't under the law. But the Old Testament has lots of practical information. I consider it a handbook on "How not to make stupid choices in life." In fact, it is all I had & studied for 4 years.Granted, if you can find God thru the Old Testament, then the New Testament is a piece of cake to understand. I usually have new believers start with Romans. Then go back & read the rest of the New Testament. Then the Old.

Oh forgot to add. I'd rather have people practice the Word they know. Than read chapters & chapters, but not apply it in their lives.

What I meant was that The Law of Love is inherent to us all, but I still believe it's profitable thus it is important.

We are to still follow the Ten Commandments...because it is God's Law that we have to follow it. We don't have to do PRECEPTS, ORDINANCES, and RITUALS, they are fulfilled in Christ. The food laws are so benefitial, cause it keeps us healthier. We are saved by grace and not of works. (Ephesians 2:8-9)Love much, JagLovest ye in Christ Yahshua our Lord and Saviour.

Faith produces joy, it's different from the "NO Pain, No Gain" thing. You don't do the works thinking about the reward. You do the works as if you already received the reward. So it all starts in Faith. You do the works done in love. As if we are obligated but not really, because He first loved us. As if we were indebted and it's payback time."And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."(2 Corinthians 3:3)Peace be with you, sons and daughters of peace.ESV Bible Onlinehttp://www.gnpcb.org/esv/browse/

"Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love."(1 John 4:8)"Yes, to this day whenever Moses is reada veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."(2 Corinthians 3:15-17)"Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me;in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” (Hebrews 10:5-7)"Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the Lord."(Psalm 4:5)"In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away."(Hebrews 8:13)"God is spirit, and those who worship him must "WORSHIP" in spirit and truth.”(John 4:24)"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith,so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast;it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way;it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."(1 Corinthians 13:1-8)"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."(Deuteronomy 6:5)"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."(Mark 12:30)"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions — is not from the Father but is from the world."(1 John 2:15-16)"There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love."(1 John 4:18)
