The Cut And Run
. Today many Christians are faced with diversity or being looked down upon for such faith, some Christians more then others. I know if you have not felt out of place for being a Christian you soon will, either that or your not living the Christian life. . The times are getting hard, make no doubt about it, but Jesus has already warned us, “All men will hate you because of me…” He also says, “Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil…” . Blessed am I when I am mocked and insulted? How can that be a blessing? I can tell you right now being mocked is not a blessing but because of Jesus we can now count our lose as gain because Jesus continues and states, “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven.”. Today many Christians do the exact opposite of what Jesus said, when Christians get confused, looked down upon, or face diversity of any kind it seems that their first reaction is cut their loses and run. They let fear become their king and their faith in the Mighty King has no leg to stand upon, because their faith has fallen.. The same was of the disciples, most fled and ran for their lives! But there was one disciple; John who stayed with Jesus while he was on the cross, He is a person to look up to, He is the person we should try to emulate through our Christian life. . John was willing to stay with Jesus though-out all the mocking and insulting. Though the bible never stated that John got mocked and even insult I would think it would be highly unlikely that he did not.. There are those who feel as if they are strong like John yet fall like Peter. He was one who got big headed and believed he was invincible. When this happens we are ripe for the picking, Satan is not stupid, he knows when we are most weak.. He fell hard at feet of his own fear came, this is not something we can brush off, it can happen to anyone. Peter the Disciple of Jesus was scared of a little girl, how much greater could the fear be if it were someone of great power? Often like Peter Christians can talk the talk but they do not walk the talk. . Jesus told Peter; “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat.” Peter’s response was “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death. Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.” Jesus’ response tore Peter apart “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”. The reason Peter failed was because he did not seek council from Jesus and relied on his-self. This is something that we as Christians can do all the time. Proverbs 3:5 states, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”. After Jesus’ death the disciples were in hiding for there lives lest they be caught as well! They were afraid! And they didn’t have any faith that Jesus would rise from the dead. They knew Jesus was the Messiah, yet they must have thought he was there to free them and set up his earthy kingdom, for them things just simply did not add up! They probably knew their scripture and puzzled at it and thought did not Isaiah say, “He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” How can this be if he is dead. Lack of faith for Isaiah also states in chapter 55 verse 9, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”. I would like to encourage you if you have fallen and it seems you cannot get up, because if you have fallen does not mean you cannot get up! Peter who probably feel the hardest and the other disciples who feel also got up repented and became stronger. . Peter The Apostle who denied Jesus three times was reported to have been crucified, during the reign of Emperor Nero. Before his death he wrote Fist and second Peter and was prominent and important Evangelist in the Christian world.
