I have actually posted 1 similar topic on the welcome wagon, but i think this is a more appropriate place to do so. Actually, i am new with christianity. I have just started attending church and believing in God and Jesus as our Lord and saviour recently. But i am confused with the word christian. What does being a christian means? What is a christian all about? To be honest, i have only started attending church because i have fallen in love with a christian girl, but since then, everything have been weird. I am really interested to find out more about God, and it would really help if someone would share with me what do they understand of God, and what do they feel. As it is now, i have millions of questions, and a good of friend of mine said, the best way to get the answer is through God, but i have no idea how. People say they could feel God, i can't. Is there something wrong with me? Some people even say they could hear God whispering to them. No doubt i have voices in my head all the time, but those sounded more like hallucination of my own rather than God's whisper. I would really appreciate a good guidance! Thanks a million in advance, and i am looking forward to your advice!

Well to understand what Christian means, it's a simple as breaking down the word itself. It is best defined as "Christ man" - in other words, someone that follows the teachings of Christ. If you want to get to know the Father, read his Word.

A Christian is one who has chosen Jesus as his savior. It involves being aware of our wrongs (sins) & realizing we can't fix ourselves on our own. We surrender our own way of doing things & ask Jesus to be our Lord instead.Going to church doesn't make one a Christian. Any more than going to a football game makes you a quarterback. Not that I'm saying attending services isn't beneficial. But the core of Christianity is a relationship with God made possible by Jesus.

This is one time I wished I typed better, because there is so much to say. Hopefully I'll be able to do this justice.I think you feel the pull toward God. The first step in salvation, is realizing we need being saved. It is pretty humbling to see ourselves as unclean, unworthy, imperfect & not measuring up. You have to see yourself as sinful, which is uncomfortable. But necessary. Then, you ask Jesus to cover your sins. Or you could describe it as Him paying the price for all that uncleanness. And in it's place, He gives you a new spiritual heart.I'm not one for verbatim prayers. But something along these lines.God, help me. I'm a sinner. Even on my best days, I can't be perfect. There is evil in my nature. And nothing I do will change that. Only You can fix me. Lord have mercy on me. I give control of my life over to you. I ask that the sacrifice Jesus made by dying on the cross, pay the price for my sinfulness. Please be my God & I will be your child.Denver can you help out with some Scripture references, please?

Heres something to start withPsalm 18:30As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in himPsalm 18:32It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfectPsalm 25:4Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your pathsPsalm 25:7Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORDPsalm 25:9He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.Psalm 25:10All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenantMatthew 17:20He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."the mustard is of the smallest of seeds planted

Test everything to God's Word. That's the best advise that I had ever recieved when my faith first began.Four Things God Wants You to Know1. You Need To Be Saved"Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)"For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23)"There is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." (Ecclesiastes 7:20)"We are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)2. You Cannot Save Yourself"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us." (Titus 3:5)"By the works of the law shall no flesh be justified." (Galatians 2:16)"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." (James 2:10)"There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." (Proverbs 14:12)3. Jesus Has Already Provided For Your Salvation"Who [Jesus] his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness." (1 Peter 2:24)"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God." (1 Peter 3:18)"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)4. Jesus Will Enable You to Overcome Temptation"The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished." (2 Peter 2:9)"If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17)Your Part:1. Repent (Turn from your sins)"Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3)2. Believe"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." (Acts 16:31)3. Do It Now"Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near." (Isaiah 55:6)"Behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corinthians 6:2)"How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3)4. Remember"Every one of us shall give account of himself to God." (Romans 14:12)"It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment." (Hebrews 9:27)"But he that believeth on him...shall not come into judgment." (John 5:24)"Choose you this day whom ye will serve." (Joshua 24:15)http://www.tpgh.org/FTt.htmPeace

As Christians we ought to be just like Christ. Not just call ourselves Christians. That is why there is a "Christ" in Christians. Here, listen to this sermon. It talks about true repentance and kind of goes in depth to what real Christianity is about. And it is real Christianity that gets you into heaven. None of that carnal stuff.

What does being a christian means?
That's easy, a Christian is simply somebody who's Jesus's pal, that's all he asks..

"You're my friends if you follow me. I don't call you servants, but I call you friends, for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known to you." (John 15:15)"In my fathers kingdom are many mansions,I'm going on ahead to get them ready for you, then come back to take you there with me" (John 14:2-6)

Christ is our perfect example, accept Him and strive to be like Him.How do you strigve to be like Him?Saturate yourself with His word, the Bible. The Bible is His Story, the only true history that counts.Look at the Bible like a puzzle and as the pieces come together you see Christ clearer and clearer. But beware,Satan comes to you as a beacon of light. He will twist words and cause even the elect to faulter while thinking they are being knowledgable.Pray and Christ will guide you through the working of His Holy Spirit to see the connections most people miss because they are busy looking wise.
