I had a NASB for 10 plus years before it fell to pieces and I could not use it any more. I loved that bible and had just about every page highlighted, beginning with notes in the margins. I had also memorized a fair amount of the scriptures and found it very difficult to find them once I changed bibles. I now use an NIV84, Amplified, and NKJV, KJV for comparison. How is your bible holding out...do you highlight or write in your bible?

Shalom!

I have too many Bibles in my crisis to come up with a "primary" translation, so no one Bible has much wear and tear outside of my paperback NLT which I consult on a decent basis and then my old KJV that I used for many years prior to coming over to more modern versions. It's the most worn (still in good shape though) and written in by far.

I have issues highlighting and writing in my Bibles. I always feel like it's a bad thing and that I should preserve them and compile notes elsewhere, but it's so much handier to write in them. I am working on getting past that! Most people I know have worn them quite well. I've always tended towards hardback and paperback copes because they're cheaper. I've never purchased a really nice Bible (though I did win a calfskin ESV).

I think getting a really nice quality Bible is worth it, though, when you have that major translation that you use all the time.

I write in my bible especially when God opens up a new truth to me. I'll have read it many times and suddenly I will understand it. It write and underline in all of my many Bibles even though as a child I was taught not to.

My first bible was a scofield bible that I marked up greatly. I haven't used a bound bible, though, in 10 years and more. Everything is on a laptop now. I can't imagine going back to reading a bible in book form. It would seem so paleolithic.

My 1984 NIV has enough margin notes it looks like an old 1611 translator used it for source material.

It's funny how many people have gone over to the technological dark side. :D

I am a software developer by trade, yet I still prefer to be able to turn the pages of my Bible and touch the paper.

I'm a notorious scribbler and verse highlighter. I like writing the Hebrew in the NT margins... lots of fun!

I never write in my Bible but I keep an index card in each of my Bibles to make sure I will have something to write on if I want to make a note about something I read.

I never wrote in my Bible because I never wanted to mark it up. Now, the question is moot because I no longer use a paper Bible for study.

Interesting.

That site unfortunately doesn't mention the first English translation of the Septuagint (LXX) made in 1808 by Charles Thomson, Secretary to the first United States Congress.

As bad as Catholic history has been for suppressing the bible, they have done some great modern scholarship. Their New Jerusalem Bible, which is based on the French Bible de Jérusalem, has the most accurate translation of Zechariah 14:5 in existence. That bible was translated from manuscripts in their original languages, not the Vulgate.

Ya, God won't fall off His throne over a little ink.

I honestly don't think that there is anything wrong with it; if it helps me understand God's teachings better. I'm not adding or taking away from scripture-as the Bible forbids, just making notes.
