can you imagine what it would be like to live in the times of the old testament and being able to hear God speaking directly to us from the sky...hovering above us in a pillar of cloud, and still his people didn't believe enough to follow him when they knew that since his voice came from heaven it couldn't have been a human speaking..."but what about us?...would we turn our backs on him back then too...if so...why? and if not...why not? please explain your oppinion concerning only you and noone else.now let's say youre born when Jesus walked the Earth...would you belive more in God in the old testament when you heard God's voice or when he walked the earth...? Would seeing him face 2 face make a difference? Now let's talk about now after he has died, rose again and given us his spirit...is it easier to believe now...or was it easier to believe in my other two examples?I want you honest oppinion short or long because I will also give my oppinion later.sincerelyelmo

I think Men have always and still do think they can do it better than God. God gave them prophets they wanted Kings. God gave us the Word of truth we wanna change it to be politically correct. I dont think things have ever been any diffent man is a fool.As for myself I probably like everyone would like to believe I would have been in awe by his presence in the days of old. However I am so Humbled by his dying for my sins that maybe that fuels my deep faith today.

I personally would run away from him. In fear. Imagine i was hungry and my neighbors chicken ran into my house. I cook it and as i am about to eat it a thunderous voice calls my name. The fear alone would kill me, i would probably choke on my STOLEN chicken wing and if it didn't i would run. Not like it would do any good to run but fear, the spirit God didn't give us, would make me do it. I like it how it is now, personal relationship in a more touching way. That old way seems barbaric to me.

Human nature being what it is, God's voice booming from the sky would be very convincing for some, but not for others -Jesus said - "Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again."The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered, others said an angel had spoken to him. Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine" - John 12:27-30

I would like everyone to respond because I like this topic...a relaxed testamony rather than a heated debate!here is my testamony:I probably would "scared straight if I were Adam and God said:Gen. 1:17 "But the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."now tell: who would not be scared in this situation?then comes the time of Jesus being alive...I honestly would be skeptical because I don't want follow and find out Im following the anti-christ...but then there's that maybe...that I would follow him, but I would lose faith because the journey would be too long and I would be too weak, doubting that God could give me the strength to follow Jesus to the end.and finally here and now...I totally have faith in God and would have it no other way!

Acts 22:7 7 I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, 'Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?'The people God choose to speak with in old times were so fortunate ! True the whole experience is over-whelming but to relate it to fear is wrong. I loved my father in flesh. As a teenager (that is when you are developing your sense of right and wrong) whenever I did something that I was not suppose to which was quite often, I felt scared... I thought. Today I realize I was not scared but guilty in my heart for I knew this wouldn't please him. It was out of fear but out of my sheer respect for him that I didn't want to hurt him. It was not the fear of my father but the fear of my guilt that over-shadowed me. But everytime he would surprise me with his unfailing love. He rebuked me at times but never did he condemn me instead guided me and took me by the finger and taught me right from wrong with reason. Today when he is no more I miss him and I wish if I had one more day with him, I could pour my heart out.Luke 11:11-13 11 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[a] a fish, will give him a snake instead? 12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? 13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"Our Father in heaven is much more mighter yet so much tender. There is nothing to be scared off but only to look upto him and ask for forgiveness.Feelings associated with Fear are very negative and Fear is a harsh word to use for the Lord who is so desperately looking for his lost sheep!Luke 15:4-7 4 "Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.' 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.Faith is putting your trust in someone / something. Faith eliminates all doubts therefore, it's not a free Commodity. People in old times had enough oppurtunities and signs and so do we today in form of his Holy Spirit.Be afraid of yourselves and in fear run straight to HIM, that's my policy

I reply with this verse; Prov. 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.I did not mean to say that I'd hide from God but I would not sin in Adams shoes simply put that God is my father and I do not despise his instruction.sincerelyelmo

As far as faith in the old testament, the apostles had a heck of a time believing. They eventually did lead the charge, and brought many to Christianity, but it took them a while. Others had faith like a child, and did belive, not becasue they were weak minded or anything like that, but because they SAW He WAS the Son of God!Now adays though, we can have that personal connection with Jesus Christ. He did say:John 20:29Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."I am confident it is easier to believe now adays, becasue one can definatly tell he is always here for us. I am not saying that he wasn't earlier, but with the gift of the Holy Spirit we have that personal connection. I can see how our perceptions can even get more skewed because we see the human form. Does that make sense?>-
