Mary, mother of Jesus, born around this time.11 BC — Herod completes the outer courts of the Temple, after 8 years6 BC — execution of Herod's sons, Alexander and Aristobulus, 12 years after completion of Temple (proper)7-5 BC — a series of Astronomical events, culminating in an unusual 'stationary star' (the Star of Bethlehem?), precede the birth of Jesus24 June 5 BC — John born 6 January 4 BC — Jesus born 13 March, 4 BC — Lunar eclipse the night Herod executes Jews for destroying a Roman Eagle installed on the Temple. Massacre of the Innocents around this time.11 April, 4 BC — Passover; Herod has died by this time, after reigning 36.5 years4 BC — upon death of the tyrant Herod, Augustus sends Sabinus (Procurator of Syria) to Judah to register the Jews for taxation (Luke 2:1-2). The Jews revolt in the War of Varus (4 BC) until subdued by the Roman general Varus, who crucifies thousands of Jews along the roads of Judah. Jews begin boycott of Roman goods.27 AD — John the Baptist begins his ministry "in the 15th year of Tiberius" (Luke 3:1). (Tiberius was named Emperor by Augustus in 13 AD.) Jesus begins his ministry in Galilee (Luke 4:16ff). It is a Jubilee yearApril 28 AD"It has taken 46 years to build this Temple" (John 2:20), Jesus' first Jerusalem Passover (John 2:13)April 29 AD — Jesus' second Jerusalem Passover (John 6:4ff)Sat. 8 April 30 AD — Jesus' third Jerusalem Passover (John 11:55ff), the Crucifixion; Jesus is 33 years old62 AD — Temple complex completed, after 80 years, under Procurator Albinus (62-64 AD); James the Just, brother of Jesus, is martyred and buried in the Temple (cf. 1 Kings 16:34)70 AD — Temple destroyed by Titus and the Roman LegionsNOTES:•The fact that Jesus Christ read out Isaiah 61:1-2 at the start of his ministry (Luke 4:16ff) implies that his ministry began in a Jubilee year. See: Richard Bauckham. The Book of Acts in its Palestinian Setting. Page 202.•Josephus contradicts himself. In Antiquities of the Jews, Book XVI says there were 12 years from the completion of the Temple (18 BC) to the deaths of Alexander & Aristobulus (6 BC), but Book XVII says there were 14 years from their deaths to the banishment of Archelaus (6/7 AD).•The Jewish Talmud records that Jesus was 33/4 at his Crucifixion (Sanhedrin, 106). Thus, the Jews themselves confirm Christian tradition.SOURCES:http://jewishencyclopedia.com/view.jsp?art...erod's%20Templehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herod_the_Greathttp://www.biblicalchronology.com/herod.htmhttp://www.doig.net/JA16.htmlhttp://www.pickle-publishing.com/papers/sa...years-table.htm66 A.D. — The Last Revolt (DVD)
