Your understanding of the second heaven and earth perishing in fire is a common one.

Have you not read how the heaven and earth reflect the glory of their Creator? (Psa 19:1). It is man that needs to be transformed, not the physical earth. In fact, Scripture plainly teaches that the physical earth will not be destroyed (Eccl 1:4; Psa 148:6 & Isa 45:18).

Therefore your interpretation must be able to accommodate these Scripture's else it falls down.

God promised Noah that the earth will never again be cursed to the same extent as it was at the Flood (Gen 8:21; Gen 9:12). He declared that such sites as Mt. Zion shall "never be moved" (Psa 125:1). There is no scope, therefore, for the future destruction of the literal heavens and earth in Peter's teaching, and no reason why Yahweh should do this, seeing that His declared intention is to fill the earth with His glory. (Num 14:21)

I wont go into what I also believe the New Heavens and New Earth to be until such time you can accommodate the above Scripture's.

Purity
Accommodation of these Scriptures is easily done because they were in the original study. In fact, I knew about Psalm 19:1; Ecclesiastes 1:4; Psalm 148:6; and Isaiah 45:18 from memorizing them as a child. (I'm 55 now.) That's why I could never abide someone claiming that the earth would be totally destroyed! It's just WRONG! The problem is that "changing man" is not enough. God must also "change the WORKS of man!" Peter also wrote this:

2 Peter 3:7-13
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
KJV

Common or not, the Scriptures are clear. There will be a destruction of the earth, at least to a degree. "Earth" simply means the "ground," the "land." THAT is what will be destroyed, or rather, rebuilt, not the whole earth. The planet itself has a diameter about 8,000 miles, but only the surface of the crust is the portion that has been disturbed by human beings. Our deepest point so far has only been a small hole we've drilled 7 miles below sea level. But, all the bars, all the massage parlors, all the strip clubs, all the crack houses, all the meth labs, all the playboy mansions, etc., etc., etc. need to be purged from the earth! Every location that was the scene of some crime or some sin needs to be purged! Furthermore, they are works that CAN be "burned up."

I agree with this but the doctrine held is one of requiring both a new creation of both Heaven and Earth - this teaching is clearly contrary to the context.

I perceive we are not close to understanding this subject.

And, now I'll try with you: There are many contextual clues (which I have listed several times on this forum) that "Heaven" is not "God's abode" (as if there WAS such a thing) but is the "SKY!" The new creation of the "heaven," then, is the new creation of the "SKY!" It's a remaking of the earth's atmosphere! Just as "earth" refers to the "ground" or the "land," so "heaven" refers to the "sky" that one sees above his or her head! Thus, it is neither a re-creation of the "Universe" (as some claim) nor is it a re-creation of "God's abode" (as others suggest). It is simply a re-creation of the gases in our atmosphere.

Just as the Flood destroyed not only the dry "earth" (but not the "seas"), it also greatly altered the constitution of the atmosphere! Genesis 6-9 do NOT say that all creatures on the earth (the planet) died but that all creatures THAT HAD BREATH died! These were all the creatures on the earth (the dry land) and many of the sea-going mammals and reptiles! Even the birds are said to have breath and God created them to multiply on the earth! They, too, were among the creatures which had breath and died.

So too in the Fire, God will destroy not only the "earth" (the "soil") but also alter the constitution of the atmosphere! If most of the burning was the oxidation of carbon-based molecules, then it should be at least deficient in oxygen, and it will have a higher percentage of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, the by-products of most oxidation reactions. The percentages of each - carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide - will depend on the availability of oxygen in the area being burned.

Did you know that there is an Arabic tradition that says that Adam predicted two cataclysms - one of water and one of fire? Furthermore, Arabic tradition also gives Chanokh (Enoch) credit for building the Great Pyramid (Enoch's Pillar) in which information and artifacts would be preserved THROUGH the Flood! Supposedly, there were TWO such monuments, one built of stone and the other built of brick.

Dr. Herbert J. Pugmire, one of my heroes of the faith for his teaching and his intriguing book Your Amazing Bible, knew of this account as well as others and thus attributed the building of the Great Pyramid to Enoch (Hanokh), stating, “Anyone, like Khufu or Cheops, could have put his name on the Great Pyramid, but that doesn’t prove he built it!” By the way, the calculations above put the dating of the original manuscript during the lifetime of Jared (Yered), the father of Enoch (Hanokh).

From Mr. A. Pochan’s book on the Great Pyramid of Giza, we may also learn that the Great Pyramid was said once to have been covered with smooth casing blocks of white limestone upon which were written all the knowledge of ancient Egypt (or the ancient world before the Flood). These were removed later by the calif Al Mamun to build his palaces.

Mr. Pochan also pointed out that, from the few casing blocks still remaining at the base of the north side of the Great Pyramid, that apparently the Great Pyramid used to have a brick red ferric paint upon its surface. This may have been applied to enhance the lettering upon its surface. I find it interesting that the New Jerusalem is said to look like a “jasper stone or sardine stone”—both are red, blood-red or brick-red in color—even if “clear as crystal.” Just because the New Jerusalem was said by John (Yochanan) to be “clear as crystal,” that fact alone does NOT imply “diamond,” as so many have concluded. All of the other foundations were constructed of gems consisting of aluminum silicate crystals. Why have one foundation (and the walls) constructed from carbon, no matter how pure its crystal lattice, which would burn if subjected to enough heat? Diamond WILL burn if subjected to enough heat, such as the friction of entry into the earth’s atmosphere!

Greetings Retrobyter

I was hoping you would take me to the context of the Chapter (Isaiah 65) and not the natural elements.

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
(Isa 65:17-20)

Explain how the creation of a New Heaven and New Earth relates to Jerusalem a rejoicing.

Clearly this is not speaking to the physical realms so what must it be speaking too?

Your above post makes certain assumptions but are there other more plausible interpretations of Heaven and Earth?

(added later)

Here is another way of presenting the question:

For as the new heavens and the new earth... Isa 66:22

....shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD Isa 66:23

Are you suggesting a new heavens and new earth will automatically encourage people to come to Jerusalem to worship Yahweh, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ?

Once again the issue is not with the Heavens or the Earth but what they represent symbolically which is the answer to this Scripture

Fire in the Sky

Jeremiah 25:15-17,
15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
17 Then took I the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me:
18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.
30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.

(((God cause man to fight man by nuclear war)))
31A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.
32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

Another Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, also foresaw the nuclear war and he prophesied that the heavens will burn and roll up as a scroll. Isaiah 51:5–11 KJV

6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

Isaiah 25:1–7 KJV
4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
5 Thou shalt bring down the noise of strangers, as the heat in a dry place; even the heat with the shadow of a cloud: the branch of the terrible ones shall be brought low.

7 And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.

In Isaiah 30:25–26, it says that the sun will become seven times stronger in the day of great slaughter. The day of great slaughter happens when the nuclear war takes place and the ozone layer is burned up as a scroll. Malachi 4:1 says that the earth will burn as an oven. In looking to the encyclopedia to see what parts of the atmosphere can burn, you will discover that the ozone is a triple oxygen molecule.
The ozone layer and the hydrogen layer are next to each other in the atmosphere above the earth. The chemical reaction when they burn is as follows:
Heat + oxygen + hydrogen = H2O (water) + greater heat
The ozone and hydrogen layers will be set on fire over Israel by an atomic blast, and then they will burn like the Hindenburg blimp. When the ozone and hydrogen burn, it will form hot water vapor that will condense into water droplets that will then become rain, which will form great hailstones that will fall to the earth along with torrential rain. When the atmosphere burns, the heavens will roll up as a scroll all the way around the earth, over every nation.

In Isaiah 30:25–26, it says that the sun will become seven times stronger in the day of great slaughter.

It appears you are not able to speak to the Scriptures.

But lets take one of your quotes and test the methodology of your interpretation.

First of all, what is the immediate fulfilment of this passage in Isaiah 30? Is it not the figurative language of natural forces like lightning, thunder, storm, flood, hurricanes coming upon a nation which overstepped the mark? But who is the recipient of these judgements?

Answer: The Assyrians = Isaiah 30:31

So Eric are you to believe God destroyed the then known "world" with fire to save Israel by removing Assyria from the face of the earth?
m1705.gif

What you have manifested in these posts is 1. Sensationalism without sound Scriptural reasoning 2. Promoting apostate teaching without sincere meditation and prayer over the Word

Isaiah 30:25KJV is speaking of a great slaughter of the Assyrian Army!!!! Isa 37:36 which will bring an abundant harvest in the land for Him whose purpose it is but a total world destruction whereby the earth needs recreating ? Common! And the Heaven requiring a renovation - are you serious Eric.

Go and learn what the prophetical understanding for Heaven and Earth is and return with Bible substance in hand.

I eagerly await what is revealed to you.

Purity,

If you had the time to study the passages I listed you would understand they all take place in the tribulation.

Not good enough Eric.

Your labours need to be more thorough in His Word than blindly accepting modern Christian teaching.

For one to accept your belief you would make God break his Holy Covenant with Noah whereas the Truth accommodates this covenant of promise.

When Jesus rules the earth it will be as described below.

Isaiah 65:17-25
17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

18But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

19And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

20There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

21And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

22They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

23They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them.

24And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

25The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

How does Heaven and Earth relate to Jerusalem?
A physical New Heavens and New Earth relates to a physical New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem, Yerushalayim haChadashah, will be the capital city, not of just Isra'el, but of the New Earth! This city is HUGE! At 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles high, it will dwarf any other city ever constructed! Even the New York City metropolis will be a village by comparison! Its east-west distance will touch three time zones! If centered at the coordinates of where Jerusalem today sits, this city will cover all of Turkey, all of Syria, all of Jordan, All of Lebanon, all of Egypt, all of Iraq, half of Saudi Arabia, and a small portion of Iran! It will extend from the southern waters of the current Black Sea down to the northern edge of the Sudan, and it will replace a THIRD of the Mediterranean Sea!

It's pinnacle will be so high, that it will be visible from Sweden, Norway, Finland and almost half of Russia in the north, to Mozambique in the south, from all of Spain and half of Morocco in the west, to Nepal, most of India, and a quarter of China in the east! You should be able to see the pinnacle from Mount Everest (if there remains a Mount Everest, that is)! The light of the city, emanating from haKeves Elohiym (the Lamb of God) shining brighter than the sun, will be visible from much farther than that away in all directions, as the light of the dawn precedes the sunrise, and the light of dusk follows the sunset!

Jerusalem, God's "house" or "tent," will be a rejoicing in that it will be a place of constant songs of triumph and PURE parties all the time! The action will be in the City! If you want to have a good time, you will probably go to New Jerusalem to have it! It'll be the happiest place in the earth! (Disney World won't even come close!) The New Earth, God's "backyard," will be a place of rest, relaxation, and bliss. One will be able to enjoy the animals there, no matter what the animal may be, for...

Isaiah 65:25
25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
KJV

(I plan to ride a triceratops, or as they're called today, a Jackson's or Johnston's chameleon! Reptiles grow as long as they live, and if we live long lives, so will they! We don't know when, if ever, they will reach a point where they stop growing!)

Jerusalem doesn't "represent" something; Jerusalem is LITERAL, TANGIBLE, REAL, and PHYSICAL! And, the happiest people on the planet will be the people who live in the New Jerusalem! Those of other nations will visit and "bring their glory and honor into the city," but they will only be visiting! And, the people who live in the New Jerusalem will consist of the children of Isra'el (and the Patriarchs before them) and the Goyim (Gentiles) who trust in the Messiah of God, His Son, Yeshua`, haMelekh Yisra'el (the King of Isra'el)!

Eric,

Jerusalem was of the location of the temple of God during the age of law. The New Jerusalem is also the location of the temple of God.

1 Cor 3:16 Know ye not that you are the temple of God?

In the book of Revelation, when it mentions 'heaven and earth or New Jerusalem' it is speaking of the temple. As in the days of Noah, the earth was not done away with, but it was changed. What Noah had known was gone.

23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

A physical New Heavens and New Earth relates to a physical New Jerusalem.

The pysical elements are not the subject of the Heavens and the Earth in Bible prophecy. The earth will shake like a drunkard, yes, but there is no Scripture to suggest the whole earth with all its inhabitants will be totally destroyed or burned with fire - you may have seen one to many Hollywood productions.

But what will entirely change in the earth?

Eric,

It is speaking of New Jerusalem, which is the place we will dwell after leaving this earth. While here on earth, we are the temple of God.

That is why I make a distinction between the future Millennium (Rev. 20) and the future Eternal State (Rev. 21-22). I believe that the Temple that is described in Ezekiel 40-48 will be constructed during the Millennium, the first 1000 years of the Messiah's rulership. The Eternal State, however, is AFTER the Millennium and it is at the beginning of the Eternal State - AFTER the Millennium - when the New Jerusalem, which has no Temple, descends to the New Earth which is AFTER the global Fire.

Well, you seem to be forgetting "conveniently" that all three Peter and John and Paul talked about such a day:

2 Peter 3:3-13
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
KJV

Revelation 20:7-21:2
20:7 And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
KJV

1 Corinthians 15:20-28
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
KJV

1 Corinthians 3:11-15
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
KJV

(Some think this is figurative of something else, but why shouldn't this be literal, especially in light of the verses above?)

2 Thessalonians 1:3-10
3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:
5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:
6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;
7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
KJV

Then, too, remember John the Baptist's warning:

Matthew 3:9-12
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
KJV

Luke 3:7-17
7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.
12 Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do?
13 And he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed you.
14 And the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely; and be content with your wages.
15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:
17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.
KJV

And, don't forget the messages from Yeshua` (Jesus) Himself:

Matthew 7:18-19
18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
KJV

Matthew 13:36-43
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.
37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;
38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels.
40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
KJV

Mark 9:42-50
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
KJV

Luke 12:47-49
47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I if it be already kindled?
KJV

John 15:5-6
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
KJV

Hi Retrobyter.

Do you actually believe God is going to send a literal fire and consume the whole earth and the heavens also?

When God is called a consuming fire you don't actually believe He is literally on fire do you? Or do you?

I think you have not only missed the point but you make points without understanding.

Let me show you an example from all the passages you posted.

The word "dissolve" in the Greek is "luo", to be unloosed, not to be destroyed! Like the unloosing of a tent see John 2:19 cmp 2 Peter 3:10.

So what does it actually mean?

God has no interest in destroying His handiwork which reflects His Glory but what heavens will be unloosed? The political heavens will entirely disintegrate upon his return and its the work of the saints to remove all power from the governments on the earth.

Have you not read how the seventh vial shall be poured out into the air, or aerial (Rev 16:17) this is into the very area of governments and rulers and yes the former governments will not be remember or bought to mind for the present system of things will be done away.

But these things must be revealed to you be the Spirit of God for how else can this matter be opened to you?

Purity,

Yes the atmosphere and the earth will be burned by a nuclear war caused by God.

18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;

13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Isaiah 34:1–8 KJV
34 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth
hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.
2 For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

Another Old Testament prophet, Isaiah, also foresaw the nuclear war and he prophesied that the heavens will burn and roll up as a scroll. Apparently, all of the airplanes and nuclear missiles will fall from the sky during the war when the atmosphere burns. This judgment will be on all nations.

Isaiah 51:5–11 KJV
5 My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.

6 And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Revelation 6:12–14 KJV
12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

6 And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined.

There may well be nuclear war's but that alone does not make the "whole" earth and the whole "heavens" burn.

Its falsehood being put forth, nothing more than falsehood.

My time here has revealed there are various types of Bible Students; those like yourself how lean towards sensationalism rather than sound exposition and then others like daq who grasp the language, its meaning, context and interpretation. Though we do not agree on everything his use of Scripture is learned.

Its saddening to see large clumps of Scripture posted while the one cutting and pasting believes they have made their point.

Only when the Word is "unfolded", or opened can it give light (understanding).

Do you know what this means?

I have noticed that the learned men who want to go into the Greek to see what they think it means don't understand the prophecy as well as the people who accept the study done by the king James scholars.

No, the earth will not be burned to ashes. Only the surface will be affected. The atmosphere will be thinned to the point that the sunlight will become
7 fold strength Isaiah 30:25-26 so life on earth will become unsustainable without the intervention of Jesus.
