I have found this to be a popular prayer strategy used predominantly in the Charismatic/Pentecostal movement. Reversing curses is not biblical. The bible says that we are to...

Matthew 5:44
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

Luke 6:28
bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

Romans 12:14
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

Why do Christians use this strategy when it is clear that we are to bless and not curse? Unbeknown to many sincere believer's - this strategy falls into the realm of witchcraft/occult. If a witch or satanist curses you, your family or friends - it will not alight...Proverbs 26:2

A friend of mine rang me quite concerned about a series of events that occurred with her and her family. Her children were outside playing when her neighbor came out to tell them off for making too much noise. She ended up going out there and they got into an argument. The woman [her neighbor] was a known witch. They got into such a bad argument that her neighbor told her that she was going to send a curse on her husband who would have a serious accident at work. My friend got quite concerned so she rang her pastor [pentecostal] who joined them in prayer. He first prayed protection over the family and then he reversed the curse. That day the neighbors husband, who worked with heavy machinery, was impaled by a metal rod which flew out from no-where. He was taken to hospital and I do not know what happened to him after that. My friend felt awful about it and thought that her pastor was wrong in sending that curse back...I agree with her totally!

The bible says that we are to "love our neighbors as ourselves." How is that loving your neighbor?

7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 18 Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3

Shalom!!!

I'm very sorry about what happened to your friend's husband, Angelina. I hope he's ok. What a frightening thing to have happen.
This is such a good post. I think it's very important for us as believers to know what to do if someone threatens us with a curse. It's not an unlikely possibility these days b/c it seems like more people are openly involved in the occult than a few years ago & some of them get angry easily & like to threaten others with their 'dark power'. If we don't know what God's word clearly says to do, it could be extremely upsetting. Thank you for posting the scriptures b/c this is information we all need to be aware of. These scriptures are also very reassuring.

Thanks for your response Marta. The poor guy that ended up in hospital was the neighbors husband. I still do not know what the outcome was.

Although the pentecostal/charismatic movement tend to walk in the gifts and are led by the Holy Spirit more than most, there still needs to be a consensus on how they are administered and some sound fundamental principals set down. These principals can be found in the word of God. Admittedly, there are many grey areas but God's heart and his character is clearly seen in his word...If believers cannot define what his word says on a matter, they must then go back to his character ergo - WWJD?

Bless you!!!

No manifestation or experience should be held higher or in equal status and substance to the Written Revealed Word of God (Holy Writ). If any manifestation comes against the Word it is not of the Holy Ghost! The Holy Ghost does not move against the Word!

This is a most disturbing turn of events. Now the witch likely blames God for the "accident" her husband suffered.

But I wouldn't put a reversal of a curse beyond God's character; It is well within his rights to do so. But just because he can do something doesn't mean you should want him to. Consider what Moses did in Exodus 32:9-14

God does send curses agreed. He cursed nations and individuals ie Miriam. However, he is sovereign. Believer's should not return a curse because "a curse causeless shall not alight." Believer's are sending back something that comes from the occult realm. In doing so they are inadvertently using the same powers [occultic] to reverse curses. Witches reverse curses on each other all the time. That does not mean that believer's can do the same. Curses sent by witches are enforced by demonic entities.

Gotta get some sleep now! ;) Bless ya!
