He did not know about Christ he only knew of God in scripture Acts 18:24 "And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, and eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus."Apollos was a well learned and educated man. Apollos knew the Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi, completely. Acts 18:25 "This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John."Apollos was an preacher and teacher in the Word, and he was strong in the Spirit, and had much faith in the Lord. This is about twenty years after Christ's ascention into heaven, yet this man from Egypt had never heard of the baptism of Christ and of the Holy Spirit. Apollos had heard of the baptism of John, and that was the baptism that he taught. This lets us know that the Word did not travel as it would later. Acts 18:26 "And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly."This man was experienced in the Scriptures, only it took Priscilla and Aquila to bring him up to date on the matters concerning Christ. It became obvious when they heard Apollos that he had not heard of Christ, so they trained him in the word. Apollos knew that the Messiah was promised in the Scriptures, and now he knows that the Messiah has come, and the Scriptures are fulfilled.

So Apollos had not heard that Jesus was the Christ. Did he recieve him as his savior or does it say? Is this why in Chapter 19 when Paul came to the disciples in Ephesus (where Apollos had preached) they only knew of the coming Messiah (John's Baptism)? When they heard this (Acts 19:5) they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Was this a water baptism? Did they have to be rebaptized with water after they heard?

Right he knew the Messiah was expected just not that he had come Acts 18:28 "For he mightly convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ."As Apollos spoke the Jews listened, and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Apollos' message was now complete for he now knew that the promised Messiah of the Scriptures was Jesus, and He was the promised Christ. When Apollos spoke, the sole authority that he gave was the Scriptures, the Old Testament. There were no New Testament writings that was available to him at this time of Apollos' preaching, and from the Old Testament he proved that Jesus was in fact the Messiah, the Christ, the anointed One from God.Acts 19:5 "When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."It says nothing about Water because after the death on the cross we are baptised by the Holy spirit water is only symbolic of this. That is the differance between the baptism of John, and the baptism in Jesus name? before the Holy Spirit could come, Christ had to pay the price on the cross to pay the price for each of our sins. The other thing that had to happen is that Jesus Christ had to conquer death, whereby we could be saved. That is the good news.remember the thief on the cross with Jesus he was told he would see him in heaven that very day No water there either

Since the last time this topic came up, I've ponder how the thief on the cross fits in. Here is what I've come up with. Before Jesus came to earth & died, the "righteous" dead waited somewhere. Luke 16:19-28 describes. Romans 4:3 says "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." Abraham couldn't say-Jesus in Lord. Because the messiah hadn't yet come. He couldn't be baptized. The fullness of all God had to offer wasn't available (since it hadn't yet occurred.) I fit the thief in as gaining salvation in the same way the Old Testament saints did. Based on his confession that Jesus was lord, he was credited with righteousness. Baptism wasn't an available option.I think we should be baptized (with water). Because Jesus Himself said so in Matthew 28:19. I'm not sure what exactly it does for us. But it is a simple enough thing to do. I see baptism as a statement to the world, that we belong to Jesus. Just as I see, verbally stating Jesus is our Lord, as a statement to spiritual forces, that we belong to Jesus.

Baptism is a requirement of the Christian but Water is nothing we are baptised by the Holy spirit just as the Dove was the Holy spirit descending upon Jesus it was the holy spirit that desended upon him the water did nothing. It is symbolic for the living water of Jesus Christ being able to wash away all sins. A person can except Christ up till his last breath thus being baptised with the Holly spirit. Water isnt necessary the thief on the cross believed upon the Lord and repented and was thus baptised by the holy spirit. It is acceptance and repentance that we must be accept to baptised by the spirit. Forgiveness of past sins. allows the indwelling of the Holy Spirit

Agree with Kriss. It doesn't hurt to get baptized by water if you want to do it by obedience because Christ did it.Love much to you,JagLovest ye in Christ Yahshua our Lord and Saviour.
