“Led By His Word”
By Zach Wood
1 Corinthians 2:1-2

So often we get caught up in the trap of thinking we need more wisdom to share with others. We come to feel often that we need more training to share God’s love with other people in the right ways. Yes, we do need wisdom and education in many ways, but when we are sharing God with others through our loving and kind words, God works through that and uses us in ways we would never expect. As long as we are keeping our passion alive in knowing God and sharing Him with others, the Holy Spirit will work through us to impact people’s lives.

Many times, it’s not even our words that impact, as much as our actions do. When we walk that talk, then people really see Christ through us. Words are good, but as I’ve learned so much through ministry, it’s often the times that I’m not speaking that really shows the most love. God wants to use us in ways that words will never satisfy.

As much appreciation that I have for my college education, I have learned so much more just by going through and experiencing life as it happens and learning as I continue to grow in walk with Christ. That education is more than I think I would have ever learned through a textbook of any kind. My greatest education continues and should always continue to be from reading God’s Word and following what He tells me to do.

When we are around other people, the greatest thing we can do is share God’s love with them, whether by our actions or through conversations of encouragement.

"I come not to bring peace, but to bring a sword" (Matt. 10:34)

The Word of God is a sword, discerning, dividing. In its own way, it does violence against the status quo of this fallen world and destroys the work of Satan. But does this sword have an evil twin? One wielded not by our Lord Jesus Christ but by the prince of demons? I think so.

I would hazard to say that most of the time we hide behind our religion, not proclaim it. The church has facilitates such sentiments by wasting money on expensive special buildings which we all go to to express our faith or lack of it away from the prying eyes of the world. Having done our duty, we then go about our business during the week as though what happened on Sunday never happened.

We have a cloistered faith, not a celebratory one, bearing in mind that singing songs or hymns does not denote worship if the heart is not right. Worship only comes from a surrendered being.

Unlike the New Testament Church who met in homes and who went about proclaiming the resurrection of Jesus and his Lordship which meant that every believer was a minister, not just a select few paid to do a job. This is a concept lost on most churches as a conversation I had with someone in a 22,000 member church, showed.

"Do you believe in the priesthood of ALL believers"

"Oh yes."

"Does your church think the same?"

"O yes. We have 22,000 people in the church and we have 220 full time staff."

I wonder what the other 21,780 do?

When there is no such thing as "church" other than you and other Christians, who are priests to God and the people, there is a daily outpouring of his love and his Word in the world and Jesus is the centre of attention, not "my church" which it is at the moment.

I wonder how many people are asked to come to "my church" rather than being given an introduction to a risen Lord through word and deed. I have a feeling that the New Testament Church met daily because they were always inviting people to join them for a meal. As they did not have a "my church" to invite people to they invited them to something that everyone was familiar with...their home and to do something that everyone did...eat a meal together.

This allowed them to keep things small (up to 30) and personal and friendly and welcoming and they could see with their own eyes "how much they loved each other."

With so many denominations all they can see is how much they dislike each other.

Do you ever feel like Atheists and various other haters of God want to force us back into our prayer-closets? They'll say things like, "I don't mind that you're a Christian, just please keep it your to yourself."

To be fair, a lot of what Christians contribute to the cultural landscape does not help our cause at all. <_<

Yes one does not have to speculate on that. I read an American Christian newspaper on line that details what is going on in the church and world in America and every week the atheists are suing someone because they are involved in public Christianity on the basis of separation of church and state, which is a concept that does not exist in law.

As far as point two is concerned, one only has to read the result of polls to find out why the church is on its nose. In one poll, the number one reason for rejection of the church was that ministers are full of their own self importance and as perception is everything, whether that is true or not it doesn't alter the fact that is the way the world sees things and as they say, there is no smoke without fire.

They must skip over Jesus words that if you want to be great in the Kingdom you need to be the servant of all. I know that many think that being the main man and being the authority on everything and having the mindset that everyone is entitled to their opinion constitutes serving, but it doesn't gel with me.
