Excuse me for a minute. To "Follow his instructions" Doesn't mean to follow instructions that I want you to follow.
The instructions God set out in the beginning were simple, not a thing was imposed on mankind that would cause them a minute’s worth of misery. What did the humans want for? Everything they needed and more was provided abundantly. Their happiness and security were his top priority. But free will came with limits because of the danger that some would abuse the privilege. A god of order always has contingencies worked out well in advance to address any breach of his rules. Can you name me any rules that are made without care and forethought for free willed beings?
God’s heavenly family, up until the creation of humans, had no reason to abuse their free will and were content with their life in the spirit realm. Only with the creation of man, did something occur to one who was carried away with his own magnificence and desired the worship that these “lower” creatures would give to his God. He is the one who wanted “to be like God”.
Instead of resisting that desire, he acted on it and brought the whole purpose of material creation into question, because the one who made himself “the devil” did not question God’s power, but called into question his Sovereignty and his right to set limits to the free will he gave them (made in his image).
We are the clay in the hands of the Potter. (Jer 18:3-6; Rom 9:20)
All he ever asked for was our obedience, without question, because, who has the right to question the motives of the one who made us? Once we get to know who Yahweh is, and what his purpose was for humankind originally, we have no reason to question anything he does or says. Love motivated everything he did and has done since the fall....love and reward for the faithful, not for the disobedient.
If we break his rules, we have no place as subjects in his kingdom. Just as with any nation on earth, to enjoy residence, you must comply with the rules applied, or be denied entry.
As there is no “hell of eternal torment”, denial of entry means eternal death, nothing more. One can go out of existence as easily as one came into existence. Adam was told that he would go back where he came from.....where were we before our parents created us?
