The reconquista is the term given to the reconquest of the Iberian peninsula, modern day Spain and Portugal, from the Muslim invaders. It was their plan to invade Europe and wipe out Christianity.

After the fall of the ancient Roman empire this peninsula was inhabited by the Christian Visigoth kingdom.
In 711AD it was invaded by the Muslims and within a decade they inhabited the whole peninsula apart from one small pocket of Christian resistance in the north. Slaughtering al Christians I sight. From there, under armed, out gunned and out numbered, the reconquista began.

The Muslims were already invading Europe from the east. This was the western front of the crusade against the Muslim invasion of Europe.
Understand this, defeat here would of most probably led to the Muslim invasion of all Europe and Christianity would of almost certainly been killed, that was the Muslim objective.

It took 780 years of war and bloodshed for the Christians to reclaim this land from the evil Muslims. The reconquista was completed in the late 15th century, shortly before the golden age of discovery and exploration which was led by these great Iberian nations of Portugal and Spain.

I encourage you to watch this short video. It is under 4 minutes long and is a map and timeline of the reconquista. I hope you enjoy it.

@Wrangler @Matthias

I'd like you guys to familiarise yourselves on this part of history, the reconquista. A defense of the evil Muslim invasion which lasted 800 years in the Iberian peninsula. Both my parents are from here so I most certainly had ancestors involved in this defense and I'm proud of it. The world would of been a different place if we, the Christians, would have lost this.

You should be proud as the reconquista is a miraculous turn of events. I explain to people that because of the Islamic conquest of Christian Constantinople, which effectively closed the trade routes established by Marco Polo (making them too dangerous and expensive in bribing the Jihadi's), is the reason Columbus sought to sail West.

I also explain to people that his voyage was delayed until the final defeat of the Muslim Moors.

Oh wow you know your stuff, your exactly right. Columbus didn't go out in search for new worlds, he was trying to reach Asia to directly trade with them as the spice road was owned by the Ottoman empire making goods like spices very expensive.
Columbus made a miscalculation and thought the world was 4 times smaller than it is, thinking a short sail west would reach India, he was wrong.

It was the Portuguese, Vasco da Gama, who found the sea route to Asia. They had finished their part of the reconquista sooner and had spent the 15th century not at war but exploring the African coast, Atlantic ocean, practising navigation and sailing skills and developing better ships. I think they already knew about the American continent but weren't concerned as their aim was to reach Asia, they kept it secret as they were leading in exploration knowledge and didn't want others to know. To be exact my parents are both Portuguese so I know a lot about their history. They had a golden age for about 100 years until the Dutch and the English over took them

God bless

Ah there you go. You have ancestors that were probably a part of the reconquista as well, its in your blood. What other nationalities are in your background?

French
Irish
Italian

My Portuguese grandmother did the least to instill pride in her national customs, probably because she was not that familiar with them herself. But one of the first things people should recognize about the Spanish and Portuguese is they don't look like the Irish - and why that is. Centuries of Islamic Conquest and the ultimate defeat via Reconquista.

As we approach the quarter century of 9/11, I honestly have to say I was not aware of the bane to civilization Islam was before that. Once you study the history and the evil ideology of Islam that drives it, things are put into their proper perspective. There are different types of Jihad. Propaganda Jihad is very effective. The UN and many Christians, such as @Matthias, buy into the lie that Muslims are victims of Christian wrong doing.

More Marxist propaganda is that Columbus was the victimizer when he and his people were the victims. Those dang White, Heterosexual, Christian men can't do anything right!

Columbus was the first man, other than our Lord, Jesus Christ, to have his birthday honored by a holiday by George Washington. The Cultural Marxists co-opt that day as Indigenous People Day to undermine the heroic Columbus credited with spreading Christianity to half the globe! No one is perfect but the demon influenced only focus on the mistakes great men made, e.g., during the Age of Exploration and the Crusades.

The propaganda is so effective, most people in Western Civilization have been brain washed to consider the liberation of their people via the Crusades as something to be forever ashamed of. That's why people like @Matthias is so invigorated to NOT list the reasons FOR the Crusades. The closed mind is like blaming the surgeon for cutting into someone while ignoring the reasons for the surgery. It turns the heroic surgeon into a bad guy. So, it is with the Crusades. They only did bad, don't you know? And they did bad for no reason. Propaganda. Indoctrination.

That's like here. Every Australia day the extreme left do protests and call it invasion day. It's pathetic
