Every Church has Heresy

Heresy is acquired simply by walking in the flesh rather than the Spirit...

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies... - Galatians 5

I am a member of the Pentecostal Holiness church. In time I believed we had the best thing going. Take us out of the Spirit and into the flesh... And we are as bad as everyone else. It has amazed me to have dwelt in a church that I considered doctrinally perfect, only to see another generation arise and bring all the imperfections of the flesh with it.

As far as some of these denominations... Yes I believe they are Christian... But some of the doctrines are in error because those who wrote the doctrines were thinking independently of their own mind and not from the actual Spirit of God.

Notes on the seriousness of persecuting people on the grounds of doctrine.... And... I believe one ought to think real hard about any kind of offense towards other believers on doctrinal grounds... Noting the quote by Michael Servetus that, "even the elect ones may be led astray into error."

"Every Church has Heresy"
That because we are ALL deceived. None of us has total truth or "doctrinal perfection". Oh yes, there are many who THINK they do but they are deceived. This is why we need each other. Truth (in greek "reality") can only be obtained by unity in the body of Christ. The very word "heresy" means "division" or "sect". Anyone that belongs to a distinct group is, in a certain sense, a heretic. Paul had this to say:

1 Co 1:12-14
Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;

How was the thief on the cross saved?

That was BEFORE Paul was commissioned by Christ as Rom 11:13 Apostle & Rom 15:16 Minister to teach Salvation to believers 'today'
Was Abraham, David, Moses. Lot, Adam saved the same way as the thief ?

No, the thief died AFTER Christ.

You are very confused. Jesus taught the same gospel as Peter did.

Ac 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. (preached to Gentiles)

The same message Jesus taught in John 3

Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (preached to a Jew)

My question is: Where, today, are the true believers against whom we can compare heretical sects to determine if they're actually heretical? Honestly, it seems to me everyone has gone their own way; each is as heretical as the other.

Nothing complicated.
Christ saves.
Christ selected Apostles for different ages & audiences.
Simply work out who your Christ selected Apostle is.
Follow what they teach as to how you are saved.
