Hi,

A question- what do you do to meditate on the scripture? I do not understand how to do this, I know the scripture says we are supposed to meditate day and night. I don't understand this, the only thing I can think to do is quote scripture in my head over and over and over again constantly just so something bad doesn't happen. If I have to do this while I am at work I will probably get fired but I think I have to. How do you do this? Thanks

It is good to have scripture memorized but also know the Holy Spirit will bring scripture to your remembrance when needed as long as you have read the scripture previously . So the important thing is to read your bible with understanding , study the scripture daily . Repeating scripture like a mantra is not necessary .

John 14:26 Context

23Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. 25These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. 27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.

You don't have to quote Scripture over and over all day long...do that when you have a need, remember some verses to help you.

About meditating on the Word of God: During certain times of the day or night, you can meditate on certain verses. Meditate means you are mulling over the verses, thinking upon them. This will help the verse to go into your heart more.

In the old days we would call times of prayer and meditation on the Word of God "Quiet Time".

I think there is a difference between eastern meditation and western meditation.

In eastern meditation one empties their mind of all thoughts

In western meditation one thinks about certain things like the meaning of scriptural verses

The word "meditate" in the Hebrew where you are referring to means, to ponder, to think on something.

It definitely does NOT... mean anything like Transcendental Meditation like done in the far east, if that's what has you confused.

WARNING TO BRETHREN IN CHRIST:
Eastern meditation says to free your mind of ALL... thought. Become 'one' with the universe, and New Age themes like that. And just allow whatever comes into your mind during that meditation period to flow, connecting with your spirit.

What that is actually doing is INVITING evil or familiar spirits into your life. And they know God's Truth, just like Satan can quote God's Word perfectly also, so that he knows how to change its meaning with adding or taking away.

Helena Blavatsky, a Russian mystic of the 19th century used automatic writing to connect with what she claimed was a master dwelling on the Astral plane. Automatic writing is similar to like the Ouija board game. She would go into a trance-like meditation with her hand and pen wresting on a piece of blank paper, and with her eyes closed her hand would start writing. She wrote something like four volumes of Occult books given her by her secret master, which beyond all doubt were given her by a familiar spirit.

Here a line,and there a line.
The entire Bible revolves around the beginning of the violation of God's words.
Rather than starting with God's creation.
Starting from the foundation, Jesus Christ.
Keep in mind and start to read from the beginning.
Jesus Christ and God are one.
As the Adam and Eve are one.
You can find that many things were not created at random by God.

I interpret meditating as to think and interpret.
So I will not only read the scripture but I will also pray about it, watch sermons that are applicable to the things discuss, read what other people have said. I do this in order to understand the scripture better and receive revelation so that I can apply whatever lessons I get from it to my daily life and draw nearer to God.

I would say this too. Also, God can show you in a dream what a passage/scripture means and something looks like.

For me, I reading parts over and over and over again gets it into my mind. Then picking out a part that seems relevant to the moment, or just the one in my mind, consider the statements, consider the meaning of each word, consider how I would apply this to my life, consider how I may be living contrary, and what I need to change.

Yes, we often times need to give our attention to a matter at hand, but there are many in between times when our minds are free to engage with whatever we choose. So we should choose to think about a passage of Scripture, and how we may grow thereby.

Much love!

Meditating is keeping focus not allowing your mind to wander on to other things while reading scriptures. It takes some practice and depending on whats going on it can be very difficult to stay focused.
