Scripture on God’s Refusal to Pardon Sin
In the Bible, God’s refusal to pardon sin is often linked to rebellion, persistent disobedience, or rejection of His authority. One of the clearest passages is Exodus 23:21, where God warns: “Do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression, for my name is in him” Bible Hub+1. Here, “him” refers to a representative or messenger of God (often interpreted as Christ in later theology), and the warning is that defiance will not be forgiven because God’s authority is vested in that representative.
Other scriptures reinforce this principle:
  • Deuteronomy 29:20 warns that God will not pardon a person who provokes His anger and jealousy, and will blot out their name from under heaven Online Bible.
  • Numbers 14:19 shows God’s willingness to forgive when the people repent, but also the danger of persistent rebellion Online Bible.
  • 1 Samuel 15:25 records God’s refusal to pardon Saul for disobedience, despite his plea for mercy Online Bible.
However, the Bible also teaches that God is merciful and will forgive when people repent:
  • Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon” OpenBible.info.
  • 1 John 1:9 affirms, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” OpenBible.info.
  • Ephesians 1:7 declares, “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace” OpenBible.info.
Key takeaway:
God’s refusal to pardon sin is tied to persistent rebellion and rejection of His authority (Exodus 23:21, Deuteronomy 29:20). But His mercy is also real — He forgives when people turn back to Him, confess their sins, and seek His face (Isaiah 55:7, 1 John 1:9). The balance is that God’s justice demands accountability, but His mercy offers restoration through repentance.

Yes. God is Merciful and Just…

God will Forgive, repentant men.
God will Forgive, Heartful Believers.

If one is willing to be WITH God, God will be WITH them.

If one is NOT willing to be WITH God…God will NOT be WITH them.

God is JUST, every man will get what he desires.

God bless you.
