1 Peter 3:17, ever endured hardship for doing what is right, perhaps it was standing up for your faith, refusing to compromise your integrity or choosing love and forgiveness, when bitterness seemed easier. Peter assures you that such suffering is not wasted, it is a testimony to the power of God at work in your life. Peter’s words also carry a promise, suffering for doing good brings blessing. This blessing isn’t always immediate or material, sometimes it’s the deep abiding peace that comes from knowing you are walking in obedience to God, other times it’s the eternal reward of hearing, well done, good and faithful servant. How do you endure such suffering, Peter reminds you to look to Christ’s example and to adopt his mindset, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourself also with the same attitude.

1 Peter 4:1, this attitude is one of trust, submission and unwavering focus on God’s purposes, Peter’s encouragement is not a call to seek out suffering, but to embrace it when it comes, knowing it can refine your faith and magnify God’s glory. Paul likens it to a furnace that purifies gold, removing impurities and leaving something more precious and enduring. Ever experienced a trial, that in hindsight strengthened your faith or deepened your relationship with God, perhaps it was in those moments of vulnerability and dependence that you encountered his presence most powerfully. As Peter’s audience navigated persecution, his words became a lifeline, reminding them that their suffering wasn’t a sign of God’s absence, but of his refining work.

Romans 12:6-8, Paul’s point isn’t to give an exhausted list, but to show the diversity of ways God works through his people, some are gifted to lead, others to teach, some to serve quietly and others to give generously, each gift is a reflection of God’s creativity and his intentional design for his church. The gift of encouragement, in a world where people often feel isolated, discouraged and unseen, the gift of encouragement can be life changing, those gifted in this area bring hope, comfort and motivation to others, helping them persevere in their faith. The gift of mercy, a gift that brings compassion and kindness to those who are hurting or marginalized, in the hands of a merciful person, God’s love is felt in tangible healing ways.

Ever wondered what your gift might be, Paul’s message reminds you that every believer has something valuable to contribute, your gift may be something you already love doing, teaching, helping or encouraging others, or it may be something God is calling you to step into with faith. Paul’s encouragement is to use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms, 1 Peter 4:10.
