I have been watching the Chosen series and I think the Last Supper from the most recent series is most relevant this Easter.

I don't mind the way they have made this series of Christs ministry and so far up to the last supper and His arrest. Season 6 comes out in November and I am looking forward to seeing it. Very real and brings to life Christs crucifixtion and resurrection.

Another series I was watching on Prime was 'The House of David'. I got up to where David had defeated Goliath. But I have not renewed the subscription as I got bored with it.

I like these independent and crowd funded series and movies as they cover stories the mainstream would not cover. I am a visual person and having some backdrop and putting some flesh to the stories makes them come alive.

I also like the 'Bible Expidition' series as they bring real places in the bible to life on the ground. You can imagine how it was back in those times.

I tried to watch some of The Chosen, with a church men’s group, but aside from a few good scenes like the woman at the well, it is unbearable. The fictional garbage added to the narrative and the scripture distortions make this production offensive to anyone who takes the Bible seriously.

When the wife of Thomas is killed with a sword, Jesus just looks at Thomas and says, “she really loved you”, instead of healing her like He did to everyone else. This unbiblical scene is absurd and misleading, like much of The Chosen.

The men’s group was so duped, they discussed unbiblical fiction scenes as if they were scriptural. Not good.

I'd like to point out that they change the Biblical narratives, and in ways that change God's revealed character. I've know a number of people who have been deceived by this show. It contaminates the truth with lies, and I personally think it should be avoided.

Much love!

The Bible says Jesus healed everyone who came to Him, NO exceptions. This portrays a false Jesus, and therefore this show is antichrist.

Much love!

People are so biblically illiterate, many cannot distinguish between scripture and fiction. I have been with people who accepted every scene in The Chosen as scriptural. Even when it was explained how certain scenes are not in the Bible, they seemed to prefer The Chosen over the gospels.

There are many scenes in The Chosen that contain a false depiction of Jesus, thus distorting our Savior. Yet much of Christendom wholeheartedly embrace this dubious production.

There are some very good scenes where a little feasible fiction is added without warping the gospel, but those scenes are mixed in a mess of unbiblical fantasy that is even unseemly at times.

The religious jews were biblically literate......they had Jesus killed.
Yes yes, there are inconsistencies but where are they not? Luther, Calvin, Wesley, the list goes on......even biblical characters and prophets were flawed in their behaviours and views.....and just so it's clear, I'm the only perfect one on this forum :Broadly:..I'm glad you agree!

The Chosen is a show...and they use licence to fill the gaps. Some of the licence is questionable, (even disappointing) but that's only because they didn't consult me:Broadly::dusted:

I'm sure we can give them a thumbs up even when we realise it's not all strictly biblical.....whatcha say?

Thanks I will keep that in mind. It hasn't changed my belief. I am very traditional. What I like is that it is bringing such a story to a more mainstream audience.

The establishment will never make such shows. So it gets a wider audience involved and talking. Thats when you can correct them about the true message of the gospel.

But I agree if they do make such shows they should be as close to the original words and events while having good acting and realism.

There use to be a time when biblical movies were all the rage even in hollywood. Not that a hollywood production was the right way to tell the story. But more importantly it was that bible and religious programs were popular and acceptable. It showed society was open to such beliefs.

So more shows like the Chosen and Gibsons Passion of the Christ ect and this is bringing back what use to be an acceptable part of art and religious expression. Instead of shutting it down and making it a fringe art that is taboo.

It at least goes part way to restoring some balance in the ideas and narratives being pushed in society that there is no God.

This is not the fault of The Chosen creators. I love The Chosen and the creators always advise people to read Scripture to learn about the real Jesus.

I stopped watching when Matthew was depicted as the script writer for Jesus's sermon on the Mount.
That's an inaccurate description. It's more like Jesus was especially kind to the man shown as autistic to understand the poetry of his message.

What I love about The Chosen is how it's plausible story is tangential to Bible verses.

Harsh. Truth is sometimes the answer to our prayers is no. Jesus did not miraculously heal his own cousin. Not sure what is absurd or misleading about it. We walk with Christ through the mountain top AND the valley. Accepting Christ does not mean there is only mountain top living.

I've watched the first two or three seasons. I will say that it brought out some things in Scripture that I didn't notice or pay much attention to before, like Simon being a Zealot prior to following Jesus, which made me want to research what the Zealot movement was about. It does take quite a bit of artistic liberty, which people have taken issue with. I suppose that is to be expected with a series adaptation. Still, some of the choices seem odd, like making Matthew autistic. I don't see anything from Scripture that would indicate that.

Show me in the Bible where it was accurate. That show degrades Jesus as needing somebody to write for Him when Jesus plainly says He does what the Father tells Him.

Nope, IMO it doesn't degrade Jesus one little bit. Here is how The Chosen works. BETWEEN Bible verses, the artists create a plausible scene. For instance, at the wedding of Cana where Jesus turned water into wine, the show creates a whole plausible back story of Thomas and light heartedly shows the casts personality, such as Peter not being a good dancer. It even suggests Mary, Jesus mother, knows the brides parents very well.

Plausible. Most people who go to weddings know the people getting married. It is plausible that people dance at a wedding. This includes Jesus - even though there is no Bible verse that says this. Same with Jesus working with Matthew on the Sermon on the Mount. It was not done for Jesus' benefit but Matthews. This is totally in line with what we know from Scriptures of Jesus character. In addition, there is NOTHING wrong with the man Jesus to prepare for an important speech. Many speeches are prepared ahead of time. Why do you hold this is degrading?

It presents a more human Jesus. Scripture tells us how frustrated he was with his followers not understanding. And I believe the anger he showed in flipping tables is the most human scene Scriptures depict our Lord and Savior. I get angry and frustrated. Don't you? I've prepared speeches. Haven't you?

Finally, the idea of Matthew coming up with helpful suggestions is a reflection of prayer. Why in the world would anyone pray if God, who knows better, NEVER takes into account our ideas, hopes, etc? I believe our God is big enough to have an over-arching plan for our lives while also delegating to us certain details, including most importantly, collaborating with our God on those details. If God responded to our prayers with "REQUEST DENIED; your request degrades the magnificence of my glory," people would probably pray less. Do you think less interaction is what our God wants from us? I don't.

Either way, it is just Christian art. Through the centuries Christian artists depicted scenes not in the Bible. It's still a way to bring glory to God. I'm grateful for The Chosen.

verily verily i do type unto thee ................Now why would a person choose a more humanistic
version of a jesus .
Now you do feel free to test this next question . BUT me thinks YOU ARLEADY know the answer
Seeing i seen what you already wrote in said above remark .
IT is impossible to love what is of the world and what IS OF GOD . the two cannot b lend . THEY will choose
one or the other . AND as you so clearly wrote THEY PREFER this OVER THE GOSPELS .
You see you cannot have the love of the world AND THE LOVE OF GOD . ITs one or its the other .
And the LOVE OF GOD
SHEDS THE LOVE OF TRUTH upon OUR HEARTS . they like this o ther jesus
but sure dont seem to like t hose warnings and words OF JESUS in said bible .
And it aint just this show i expose either .
ITS been this way for many . THEY Love what version of jesus MAN teaches them
the jesus that WONT expose their sin . That is why we see what we see .
Many desire what paul himself called another jesus . For in the heart of man lies much wickedness .
But the sheep have THE GOD given new desires HE has given us . AND you can rest assured that LOVE
gonna PUT GOD , CHRIST first before all , WHICH darn sure means it would have LOVED HIS WORDS .

Haven’t watched TV in years, hadn’t heard of “the Chosen”.
Do have some Movies based on the Bible, but seems all of them, add in inaccuracies.

God bless you.

and why . again let us ask ourselves the why .
WHY do you think so many are biblically illiterate .
Many have no taste for the TRUTH .
And many have sat under men whose hearts have long wandered from THE TRUTH
and have taught nothing but precepts of men by which they do believe they worship GOD .
Many have zero real taste for truth .
THEY can run to a church and sit and listen to winds of men for hours .
They can read the most popular books of christendom for hours
BUT PICK UP A BIB LE and enjoy that book for hours , THEY CANNOT .
YE cannot have the love of the world and the LOVE of GOD .
And never ever , ever for one second , ever once beleive i THINK i am better than any man .
I was worst of the worst and the ONLY goodness i now have COMETH OF GOD , OF HIS SPIRIT .
but like i love to remind us , WHEN GOD draws one , GOD puts WHOLE NEW DESIRES IN THEM .
Many are as dead in sin , just as lost as i once was , AND YET I TOO could lip and cliam JESUS at that time .
And these leaders are not gonna BE A CO HELPER to this generation . Unless by being a co helper
one means a co helper TO THEIR OWN destruction . THERE has been a major sell out in and specailly in
THIS LAST GENERATION . THEY Sold us out TO A HARLOT . And she has infiltrated every realm known to man .

Wow! This show has brought millions to Christ. What you call degrade, many call humanize. The Chosen Christ has a personality, a sense of humor, etc.

You're making an IDOL of Christ. Many artists portray historical figures in plausible ways, "based on a true story" not meaning every single dialogue is 100% verified. Most people know this.

It's entertainment, Christian entertainment, bringing millions to Christ. All of us should hope to do so well in the Great Commission.
