about the same time paul was , it made mention
that some had went ab out preaching to only the jews , but at antioch they too began preaching to the greeks .

19 Now those who had been scattered by the persecution that broke out when Stephen was killed traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch, spreading the word only among Jews. 20 Some of them, however, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began to speak to Greeks also, telling them the good news about the Lord Jesus. 21 The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.

A great number of gentiles were saved and the Lords had a hand was in it of course through His spirit. Notice who spread the good news to the gentiles. It was men from Cyprus and Cyrene. The forgotton disiciples who preached the good news and saved many gentiles.

It was after this that Paul comes along. Barnabas was aleady overseering the growing gentile communities. When Paul came along later Barnabas thought of Paul (being appointed as disiciple to the gentiles) brought him in as the perfect leader and teacher and re-enforce the gospel and church.

22 News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23 When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts. 24 He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

25 Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,

So Barbabas was also ministering to the gentiles before Paul. He became Pauls companion for much of his missionaries.

It seems the church in Antioch was happening far away and the disciples were not fully aware. It was like a seperate outbreak that happened as a result of Christians fleeing Jerusalem after Stephens execution. Which was very early after Christ. Once the news got out that the gentiles could also be saved it quickly spread beyond Jerusalem and Judea.

Peter spoke very accurately about YOU:
2 Pet. 3:16.
He (Paul) writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. . . .

I will remember this......Do you think they were circumcised and did they tell them that they could not worship in the Temple.

I think there was every reason that Paul was appointed by Christ to the leader to the gentile churhes. To write his letters to the church as the head. To face the high priests and proclaim the messiah had come in Christ. His eye witness testimony.

I think Christ knew that Paul would be needed because the church was already exploding from the cross. If you look at the next verses 22 & 23 the Jeruslam church heard about this and sent Barnabas before Paul.

Then barbabas went and got Paul as he knew they needed him. Barnabas told them to keep the faith and then went and got Paul to establish that faith.

News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.

Then in verse 25 Barbabas went and got Paul as he knew they needed him. Barnabas told them to keep the faith and then went and got Paul to establish that faith by teaching them.

Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

Paul was the teacher to the gentiles of how the gospel applied to them. But most of all like the disciples he was an eye witness to Christ, No one else could give that testimony except Paul and the disciples and others who witnessed Christ the first time.

Paul even refers to the ones who were still alive when he was writing his letters as support that he was telling the truth about the risen Christ.

I think there was a mixture. It would have been all over the place because it was new to the gentiles and for some Jews deminishing their traditional beliefs.

Thats why Paul was needed. Thats why Christ appointed him His ambassador. He represented Christs words to the gentiles.

Acts 17:16-34

But I alo think there is a concerted effort to hold on to the Jewish worship in some ways. Making the law above Christs spirit. That where Pauls teaching specifically explain and address the difference. Thats why he was appointed. In that sense he is vital.

Even for marriage and the family. He is more or less explain the spirit of the law for marriage, family and the church community. He is finishing or elaborating on how Christ was the fullfillement of the laws.

Such as with the marriage being like Christ the groom and His bride church. The father and son spiritual representation. The husband sacrificing his life for his wife as Christ does for His church. The spiritual love in families caring for their own like Gods family and the importance of the family living in unity under God as with communities and nations like Gods chosen people but extended to all.

I was responding to another poster who mentioned Paul. I think a couple of people were discussing Paul. No point really. I think it was originally about the role the family played in the early church and Pauls teachings on this.

I said that the Christians carried on the Jewish traditions of family and applied this to their day. A Elder has to managed his own family before overseeing the church. Parents are to bring up children in the faith. Families are hospitable and look after extended families, servants and strangers.

and just how was the elder , this bishop or deacon supposed to have raised up his children .
With all gravity , not gravy , not overlooking their sins at all . not saying oh if little jane thinks she is john
Well the child knows what is best for them kinda junk .
And how this has ran over massive in the churches too .
For the motto is judge not correct not . And take a look at many churches now mr steven on the bay .
As a result of not preaching sound doctrine , of not correction sin and error

Yes exactly and in some ways similar to the early church who had similar ideology all around them. They had to preserve and seperate the Christian community and families from this secular ideology. Which is not happening today.

Rather the church is becoming like the world so as to remain relevant and acceptable to the world. As a sign that they are good and the truth. But it is the worlds version of good and truth.

Yes the best way to decieve is to make out the ideology is like Christs church. By using false Christs, false versions of the gospel to decieve ie Christ is DEI, is all loving, inclusive and accepting of all and their lifestyle choices. By making the individual truth over the truth of Gods word and Christ.

Though I think the truth of Gods word and Christ in not completely found in stats and facts of this world. I think Gods truth is consistent with the nature of things and reality.

So Gods divine law and order for humankind, marriage and the family can be the best and most aligned way with Gods nature and reality in how this pans out in lived reality. How fatherless families end up. How marriage breaks down and destroys families. How a mum and dad are so vital to child development ect.

These are the practical consequences in this world. Even though Gods word and Christ truth stand on their own. Because ultimatly as you say this is an ideological belief about how the world is. Whether its just this world and the material forces that create everything. Including humans and families. That can be socially constructed into whatever humans believe is best.

As opposed to there being a creator God who made us and instituted divine marriage and families beyond this world and its material makeup.

Thats a belief and not science or fact or stats. Yet the truth in the nature of how this world, marriages and families break down when based upon this worlds (humans) ideas shows its a lie. But still many will rather go with this lie and their own will rather than bow down to God will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
