as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The city's history is marked by its roles as the Capital of the papacy
from 1309-1377.
Avignon's history is also intertwined with the 'French Revolution'.

The town up around the Benedictine Abby of Cluny.
The Abby was sacked by the Huguenots in 1562.
