Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:3
As we continue to grow in the Light of God’s Word, a fuller view of our spiritual poverty will become clearer. The pride of life, (2 Timothy 3:2-5) which is a root cause of sin in our lives, will be revealed by the truth of God’s Word. We are to come to worship God in spirit and truth, (John 4:23) the absolute truth of God’s Word will prove to us how impoverished our spiritual life is. We will come to realize that by only His Spirit indwelling in us can we accomplish His will for us. When we approach the Lord we must do so in humility and acknowledgement of our present position. Through our humility God will honor our presence with His. (Proverbs 15:33) To each of us is an appointed time to die. (Eccl 3:2) By the Grace of our Lord we also have an appointed time through our salvation to life in the glory of God, which is everlasting. (1 The 5:9)

Thank you for your post and caring!

I've always liked and appreciated Matt.5:3...thank you again. I was thinkin more with Rom.3:18 as the prime source of sin. "Fear" as a deterrent sort of thing, and "agape" as the incentive?

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:4
There is plenty in this world that brings sorrow to our hearts. When evil things happen to our families, friends, and ourselves our hearts are bound to grieve. Even when the afflicted one is a stranger the strings of our heart are grievously pulled. A lot of the sorrows of this world are temporal but the sorrow we should most mourn over is the ones that are eternal. The world is filled with every imaginable form of wickedness that fills the spirit of men. (Romans 1:29-32) Many run from the burden of its weight while others seek God’s peace from their sin. John the Baptist cried out from the wilderness that we should clear the path for the Lord to come into our hearts. (John 1:23) As God’s Word reveals sin in our lives we must turn away from it and seek His righteousness. When we mourn for our sin in Godly sorrow our only freedom is to part from it. If we truly mourn and repent for our sin Jesus is quick to forgive and offer His blessing. (Matthew 11:28)
Jesus promises that when we accept by His grace the gift of salvation by His redemptive work on the cross He will send to us a comforter. (John 14:16-21) Our salvation through Jesus Christ is a onetime event for God’s word is truth. We are only humans living in a world that is subject to the curse. We our drawn into a world filled with sinful opportunity and I find myself in daily need to return to the cross of His salvation. (James 4:8-10) We are strengthened by each stumble along this dusty road to His glory and cannot help but to share in the joy we have in our relationship with Jesus. (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
This second beatitude is an emotional counterpart to the first beatitude. When we acknowledge our spiritual poverty we receive the Kingdom of Heaven, when we mourn over our sin we are comforted along the way.

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5
Another character trait of the Christ like life is meekness. Meekness is not weakness but our surrendered strength to our Lord. There is no more a powerful person than Jesus, yet He was meek. (Matthew 11:29) The meek quietly submit to God’s will and can bare the arrows of the unbelieving. In a quiet voice they return their testimony of the grace of Jesus. We show our temperance in the example of our Lord displaying the fruit of His spirit. (Gal 5:22-23) As we place Jesus at the foundation of our hearts, we will respond with gentleness and respect to those who question us for our behavior. We should always be ready to give answer for our Hope found in the Lord. (1 Pet. 3:15-16) God will honor us with His reward in Heaven. At first I would not want to inherit the earth, but it is not this earth but a restored earth. (Isa 52:1) He is now preparing a place for us, a new earth without the curse of our present earth. (John 14:2) It will be a glorious earth populated by the spirits of the righteous with the sprinkled perfect blood of Jesus and unspoiled by the tainted blood of man. A joyful gathering of the church whose names has been written in Heaven. (Heb 12:22-24) In Revelation it is declared that a New Jerusalem will descend and this will be our inheritance. (Rev 21:2)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6
Physically speaking it has been said we are what we eat. I know personally it is also true spiritually. I myself and many I have known have feed their spirits upon violence, upon excitement, upon erotica, upon all that the world has to offer, materialism and money. Over time our spirits reflect in our life what it has been feed. A great scholar on one occasion said, "As you think, you are". The things you think, you become. The things you inwardly digest, you personify them. We can see the evidence of this in the depraved world we live in. I have also learned, as we hunger and thirst for God’s righteousness through His word, in the occurrences of life our reactions become based upon the truths we have found in God’s word. The more we feed upon His word the more sure footed our walk is with Jesus, as His spirit tells us what to do. (Psalm 51:10) Our walk in faith is a learning process which causes spiritual growth in our lives. Each day new challenges will be presented and through the test of the tempter our faith will be increased. (1 Cor 10:13) We are in a renewal process of denying self and serving our Lord. By His guiding Spirit He will lead us and strengthen us through the will of the Father. We will see in our life a change bringing forth a deep satisfaction and joy, as we walk with Him in the calm of His peace. (Eph 4:22-24) Jesus is true to His word and is much more faithful to us than we to Him. If we seek Him and hunger and thirst for His truth, we will be satisfied. (John 6:35)

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Matthew 5:7
We ask the Lord to forgive us as we forgive others. (Matt 6:12) We are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. (Mark 12:33) As we judge others we shall also be judged. (Matt 7:1-2) If we are merciful towards others, we also shall be shown mercy. (Matt 5:7) God is a merciful God and has great compassion for all of His children. It is then; as we walk the Christ like life we should have a heartfelt compassion for others. (Matt. 18:33-34) We are not here to judge the spirits of sinners but to lift them up to Jesus and to do so with a cheerful heart. (Rom. 12:8) Our mercifulness is a fruit of the Spirit, given impartially to all with a sincere heart, just as God’s mercy has been given to us. (Jas. 3:17)

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:8
Jesus teaching that the pure in heart will see God puts before us an impossible task to reach the Holy City. Jesus would have to be much more that a good teacher or prophet, He would also have to provide the way for us. (John 14:6) It is hard for us to fathom the purity of God in relationship to the impurity in our life. As we grow in the frustration of our own path, we realized that we’re headed in a direction we do not want to go. Jesus is more than a philosophy He is the very founder of our life. (Eph 3:9) Who knows better how to restore a broken life than the creator of that life? As we change direction to follow His path for our life, rather than our lust for this world, allowing His Spirit to rule and gain in control of our Life. (Eze 36:25-27 Heb 9:14) As we strive to abide in Jesus, His spirit dwelling in us gives us life. (John 6:63) Our purity is the result of continued spiritual harmony with God. We have to grow in purity. (2 Cor 7:1) We are all God’s children filled with our Hope through Jesus who is our redeemer. By accepting Him and abiding in His love God will count His righteousness as our own. God will honor our obedience to His Word. (1John 3:2-3)

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:9
Jesus is our peace. God reconciled us through His Son to give the message of His reconciliation to the world. (2 Cor 5:18-19) We will face much conflict in our life as we bear His light through us. Some will be drawn to us in hunger for the peace we have through Him, while many will oppose our beliefs because we expose their sinfulness. We must stand on the truth of God’s Word and not add to the conflict with our own anger. Anger does not promote the righteous life that God seeks in us nor does it bring about the desire of others to follow our Lord. (James 1:19) God is Love and Love is patient. (1 Cor 13:4) When we face the trials of conflict do not lean upon our own understanding but trust in the Word which He has placed in our heart and He will give us the right response. (Luke 21:15) God’s creation waits in earnest for the revelation of the sons of God. (Romans 8:19) We who overcome the trials and conflicts of this world remaining strong in the faith shall be called the sons of God. (Rev 21:7) We will not face the second death. (Rev 2:11) Our names will be secure in the Book of Life. (Rev 3:5)

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:10
As we continue to grow spiritually in His word, as ambassadors for Christ (2 Cor 5:20), so will our indifference to this world. We may find those who once were are friends now no longer associate with us. They may even turn against us and do evil things towards us. The measure of our persecution is in relationship to our growth in Jesus. We must continue are study and obedience to His word, which equips us for our good work through Jesus, allowing us to gain Godly wisdom far exceeding the wisdom of this world and leading us to salvation through our faith in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim. 3:12–17) Who are they to come against us when God is for us? We are taught to be ready to give witness in true meekness of the hope we have in Jesus. If we are to suffer because of or faith in the Lord, then it is better to suffer abiding in His will than to suffer for the evil of this world. (1 Pet. 3:13-17) Jesus suffered much persecution as He lived a blameless life and as we become more Christ like in our walk we too shall face persecution. Do not become as they who oppose you but Glorify God in your reaction that proves your trust in Him. (1 Peter 4:12-16) Today the Kingdom of God is within our hearts by the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Through the knowledge of His mercy and the grace of His son Jesus we will have peace in a troubled world. (Luke 17:20-21) Someday soon this world will pass away and a new earth shall descend from heaven. It will be a place where we shall spend eternity forever in the presence of God. A place of peace and joy far exceeding any we have known. That is the Kingdom of Heaven we someday soon shall inherit. (Revelation 21:1-4)
