The Mo’ed of Shofars
Mo’ed
– the occasion of celebration for a God appointed time. Lev. 23:1-43, Ezekiel 44:24b
Shofar – a ram’s horn trumpet, blown on any special occasion.
This Appointed Day is Yom Teruah, the Festival of Trumpets. Lev. 23:24, Num.29:1-6 It is also Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, the new moon on the first day of the month of Tishri.
Themes of Yom Teruah:
* This is the Day that the earth was created. Genesis 1:1
* This is a Day to blow the shofar, a Day of warning and alarms.
* This is a Day for judgment. Psalm 81:3
* This is the Day that Israel will be protected, then gathered. Isaiah 27:13
Then ten days later, there is the Mo’ed of Atonement: Yom Kippur.
These are autumn [fall] festivals. Jesus fulfilled the three spring festivals, in their sequence, at His first advent, then Pentecost soon after, therefore we can expect the next prophesied event to be the Day of Shofars as many prophesies indicate:
Joel 2:1&15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a solemn fast, call a sacred assembly.
Zephaniah 1:16 The Day of the Lord is a Day of trumpets and alarms.
Hosea 5:8 Blow the trumpet in the Land, for the Lord has decreed punishment for Israel.
Jer. 25:30-31 The Lord will thunder from His dwelling place, a great sound will be heard by all.
2 Peter 3:10 The Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly…with a great sound
Isaiah 29:5-6 Suddenly, in an instant, punishment will come from the Lord, with earthquakes, storms, the thunder of great noise and flames of devouring fire. Ezekiel 7:14 The trumpet has sounded, but no one goes to war, as their turmoil has called forth My wrath.

The Great and terrible Day of the Lord; the Sixth Seal, will be a worldwide catastrophe by fire from the sky and is the single literal Day that the Lord will carry out His judgement of the nations. Hab. 3:12. As Jesus said: As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Matthew 24:37-39 Then, the Day of the Lord’s punishment came unexpectedly and now the world is once again in a state of apostasy and denial of God’s existence. Jesus’ reference to Himself as the Son of Man coming IN the clouds at this time, Psalm 18:11, Hab. 3:4, Luke 21:25-27, is not the Return when He comes visible to all, ON the clouds, as the Word of God. Rev 19:13 Note: at the Return, His garments are blood-stained from the years earlier Day of wrath. Isaiah 61:2b, Isaiah 63:1-6
So it seems more than probable that the Lord will take action on the Day designated for it. Isaiah 28:21, Isaiah 34:8, 2 Peter 3:10 Note as well; the Day of Trumpets occurs at the sighting of the first sliver of the new moon, so it is not a day that we can know exactly in advance, so it is the Day that will come unexpectedly, like a thief. Rev. 16:15
In order for the prophesies in Rev 6:12, Joel 2:31 and Isaiah 30:26 about the moon shining brightly red on that Day, it is necessary for it to be closer to the sun, as it is during the new moon. The sun shining with seven times its normal strength, must be a Coronal Mass Ejection sunstrike, it will cause the ‘sky to roll up like a scroll’, earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis’ and it will literally fulfill all the graphic prophesies about that Day. Isaiah 46:10, Romans 1:18
As a further proof of this judgement happening before the Return, all of the holy Land will be cleared, Ezekiel 30:1-5, and when the Lord’s true righteous people go to live there, Isaiah 66:20, they will elect their own leaders:
Jer. 30:21 A ruler will appear, one of their own people…
Deut. 18:15 The Lord will raise up a leader like Moses from amongst the people… Acts 3:22
Hosea 1:11 The people of Judah and Israel will be united and will choose a leader.

It seems most likely that after all that must happen: the visible Return of Jesus in glory, will occur on a Mo’ed of Tabanacles, the last feast to be fulfilled. ‘Tabernacles’ means ‘God with us’. In 2014, the Day of Trumpets falls on September 24th*, but what will trigger the Lord’s action, is the commencement of an attack on Israel by Iran. Bible prophecy tells us that this will happen and we know Iran and her proxies are prepared and ready to ‘wipe Israel off the map’.
Isaiah 21:2b…Advance Elam; up Media, do not hesitate! [Elam and Media: modern Iran]
Isaiah 22:6 Elam took up the quiver, Aram and Kir prepare for war. [Aram and Kir: Arab peoples.]

* According to NASA calculations, the Day will be the 25th.

I don't believe that you are that far from the truth. However, it would be more convincing if you knew the names of these countries better. "Aram" is that country which today is called "Syria." It's the name from which we get the "Aramaic language." As a go-between country (between Iran or ancient Persia and the Land of Isra'el around the Fertile Crescent), it provided a go-between language between Persia and Isra'el. Ancient Hebrew was not that far removed from Aramaic. Hebrew and Aramaic are probably closer than Spanish and Portuguese or Spanish and Italian.

Elam or Elamtu was in what is now southern Iran.

As far as the difference between the start of Yom Teruah and NASA's prediction, one must remember that the Jewish day begins at sundown with the sighting of the first three stars; whereas NASA, being a US agency, will use the standard midnight-to-midnight day. Therefore, the actual astronomical event will probably be after midnight, but the Jewish holiday will begin at the previous sundown.

Thanks Retrobyter, I hope that you and everyone will take heed of this warning.
Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision is yet for an Appointed time, but at the end it shall come to pass and will not prove false. Though it delays, wait for it, for it will surely come.

As I say: Aram [Syria] are Arabic peoples. They will all be destroyed on the Day of the Lord's wrath. Ezekiel 30:2-5

Re the Jewish calendar: it seems that it has slipped 1 day. They now have a fixed schedule for their feast Days, whereas in ancient times it was only when the first sliver of the new moon was actually sighted, that the Day was proclaimed. According to NASA that will not occur until the night of the 25th.

Shabbat shalom, keras.

Just a thought: Is that the FIRST half of the "night" on the 25th or the SECOND half of the "night?" Just as in weather reports, NASA reports on the 24-hour midnight-to-midnight cycle for a "24-hour day."

In a weather report, most of the time that one will be given the low temperatures for the day, they will occur in the "early morning" hours, but occasionally when a cold front goes through, the low temperature will occur in the late evening hours, after the sun has gone down. Did they give a TIME of day, reported in military time?

P.S.- NASA usually doesn't care when a new moon's sliver may first be seen; they are mostly interested in the exact moment that the new moon occurs, that is, when the sun is viewed exactly 180 degrees (horizontally) from the moon, and the moon is at its darkest.

Yes, NASA tells us exactly when the moon is in line -sun, moon, earth. Then it can be 1 or 2 days later that the first sliver of the new moon can be sighted.

The fact that is established by this discussion about exactly when the Day of Trumpets should commence, is that: we don't and can't know when it will come.
It is therefore the Day referred to in Matthew 24:36. It will be the Day that 'comes upon everyone the whole world over', Luke 21:35, Isaiah 66:15-16, Zephaniah 3:8

Listen: It is the thunder of vast forces. Isaiah 17:12

Isaiah 18:3 All the inhabitants of the world will see the signs and hear the sounds of the Lord’s rebuke. Isaiah 17:12-14
Jeremiah 4:23-29 At the sound of approaching disaster every town is in flight. People crawl into thickets and scramble up among the cliffs to hide. The earth is in chaos, the sky blackened, the hills are shaking and reeling and everybody disappears, even the birds and animals have gone. The whole Land is desolate, for the purpose of the Lord has been made known and He will not relent or change it.
Isaiah 29:5b-6 Suddenly, in an instant, punishment will come from the Lord with a thunder of great noise, earthquakes and storm tempests of devouring fire.
Jeremiah 25:30-31 The Lord roars from on high, He thunders from His dwelling place, He roars loudly against His Land, against all the inhabitants of the Land. The great noise reaches to the ends of the earth, as the Lord brings His judgement against all the nations and the godless peoples will die. Isa. 33:10-12
Isaiah 66:6 That roar from the city, the uproar in the holy Land, it is the sound of the Lord dealing retribution to His enemies.
Jeremiah 50:22 & 25 & 46 The sound of great destruction thunders in the Land. The Lord has opened His armoury and brought out the weapon of His wrath, it is His work to do against the Babylonish nations. The earth quakes and the noise is heard throughout the world. [Ancient Babylon was destroyed by Cyrus, he was the Lord’s instrument then, but this prophecy refers to those nations that have adopted beliefs and practices as a type of Babylon.]
Jeremiah 51:55 The advancing wave booms and roars like mighty waters, for the Lord is despoiling Babylon. [the ungodly nations] Joel 2:1-11
2 Peter 3:10 The Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly. On that Day, the sky will disappear with a great rushing sound and flames will envelope the earth, all in it will be brought to judgement.
Ref: REB. Some verses abridged and paraphrased.

The great noise reaches to the ends of the earth’, All peoples will hear it and be terrified. It will strike the Middle East at mid day. Zephaniah 2:4
the uproar from the holy Land is the sound of the Lord dealing retribution to His enemies’, destroying those who attack Israel and punishing His enemies worldwide. Psalm 94:1-7, Isaiah 66:15-16, Ezekiel 7:2-14, Micah 4:11-12, Hebrews 10:27
‘People crawl into thickets and caves to hide’, This is paralleled by the sixth seal, Revelation 6:15 and Isaiah 2:21
the sky will disappear with a great sound’, Also paralleled by the sixth seal; Rev. 6:14 and Isaiah 34:4.
‘Sudden punishment from the Lord – thunder, earthquakes, storms of fire’, This can only be explained by a coronal mass ejection, ‘the weapon of His wrath’, a sunstrike that suddenly hits the earth and it will literally cause all those graphically prophesied effects. Isaiah 30:25-28, Malachi 4:1 & 3
Deuteronomy 32:34-35 & 22 The Lord has a punishment in His storehouse, awaiting the Day of vengeance, the Day My enemies make a mistake will be their doom. For fire is set ablaze by My anger, it envelopes the earth and penetrates deep underground.

I'm thinking you might be a year to early...isn't 2015 a Jubilee year? Seems like the coming could be Yom Kippur of 2015 but the books could be opened this Yom Teruah.

Yes, I see some who say 2015 will be a Jubilee year, but that is disputed by others. It seems we cannot be sure of the Jubilee cycle now. But it is more certain of a Sabbath year starting September 25 this year. The Jews will be observing it:
As soon as the Jews settled in the Holy Land, they began to count and observe seven-year cycles. Every cycle would culminate in a Sabbatical year, known as "Shemitah," literally: to release.

The year following the destruction of the second Holy Temple was the first year of the seven-year Sabbatical cycle. In the Jewish calendar, counting from Creation, this was year 3829, 68-69 CE in the secular calendar. By counting sevens from then, we see that the next shemitah year will be the year 5775 after Creation, which runs from Sept. 25, 2014 through Sept. 13, 2015.
Chabad - Shemitah 101

Jesus cannot come next year, the 'man of perdition' is not revealed yet.

The Appointed time: Habakkuk 2:3
Isaiah 60:1-22 Arise! Shine, Jerusalem, for your light has come – over you the glory of the Lord has dawned. Though darkness covers the earth, on you the Lord shines. Over you His glory will appear. Nations and kings will come to your light. Look – your sons and daughters are coming from afar, all assembling in the Land. You will rejoice at the sight. The wealth of nations will be yours. Droves of camels laden with treasure will come and flocks of sheep will cover the Land, acceptable offerings for My altar and to enhance the splendour of My Temple.
Who are these that sail along like clouds? They are vessels assembling from the coasts and islands bringing your children from far away, their treasures with them, for the honour of the Holy One of Israel. In My wrath, I struck you down, now in My favour I show you pity. Foreigners and kings will work for you.
For the nation that refuses to serve you will perish, there will be widespread devastation among such nations. The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, to adorn My holy sanctuary. All who reviled you shall pay you homage, calling Jerusalem “The City of the Lord”. I shall give My Land and people everlasting renown. You will receive the best gifts from kings and the nations. Then you will acknowledge that your Redeemer is the Mighty One of Israel. For copper you shall have gold, for iron, silver. You will live in peace and righteousness will rule over you. No more will havoc and ruin be within your borders. Your walls will be deliverance and your gates, praise.
The sun and moon will no longer be your light, for the Lord will be your everlasting light. Your days of mourning will be ended. The Lord’s people, all of them righteous, will possess the Land forever. They are My own planting, the work of My hands for My adornment. The few will become a great nation.
At the appointed time, I, the Lord, will bring this swiftly to pass
. Psalm 102:12-22, Isa.49:8
Ref. REB. Some verses abridged.

‘At the Appointed time’: God has appointed times for His celebrations and actions. Acts 17:31 In Leviticus 23:24, He decreed that His people should observe the first day of the seventh month, as Yom Teruah; the day of Trumpet sounding. That day is Tishri 1 - the first of the fall feasts, usually coming in September. There was no explanation given by God for this reminder and the only time it has had significance was when Ezra read the Torah to the returned Jews. Nehemiah 8:1-6
But it seems probable that God has in mind a more dramatic fulfilment for this Day. There is coming a Day of vengeance and wrath, the Lord’s judgement/punishment of the nations, described many times as a Day of trumpet sounds and great noise heard around the world.
darkness covers the earth’: It may be months before the smoke and ash from the ‘widespread devastation’ of this disastrous fire from the sky clears. Jeremiah 4:23-27
However, this may also be allegorized: the darkness being people’s separation from God and the Lord our everlasting Light, those who enjoy the Lord’s favour.
‘The Lord’s people, all of them righteous, assembling from the coasts and islands’, Isaiah 49:8-11, Ezekiel 20:34. They travel on every type of transport to the new country of Beulah. Isaiah 62:1-5, Isaiah 66:20
‘Over you, His Glory will appear’, His Glory, not his presence. ‘Then you will acknowledge your Redeemer’. The Return of Jesus for His Millennium reign will come later.
‘The wealth of nations will be yours’, This happened before; at the first Exodus, the Israelites took treasure from the Egyptians. Exodus 11:2
The splendour of My Temple’, One of the first projects of the new inhabitants of Beulah, will be to build the third Temple. The Temple mount will have been cleared and cleansed by the fires and earthquakes of the Lord’s punishment.

People who believe that most, if not all, the prophesies of the Old Testament have been fulfilled in the past, are those who prefer to not face the reality of a forthcoming, worldwide devastation by the Lord.
The prophesies of this judgement/punishment onto the enemies of God, are very well described throughout the O.T. and are confirmed by the New Testament. In over 100 scripture passages, this terrifying event is vividly described as a devastating fire sent by God from the sun, that will literally fulfil all that is predicted about it.
Some of the prophesies speak in an allegorical way about this event, Joel 2:1-11 is an example. But most say what will happen, in an unambiguous way, for example:
Ezekiel 7:17… people will wet their pants in fright as they see what is coming.
Isaiah 24:1 Be warned, the Lord is about to strip the earth and scatter its inhabitants.
Zephaniah 3:8 On the Day I accuse the whole earth, it will be enveloped by My burning anger. I will pour out My wrath upon the nations.
2 Peter 3:7 …the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, for the Day of Judgement and the destruction of the ungodly.
Psalm 50:3 Our God is coming, with His consuming fire and raging storm…
Nothing like that has happened to the world as yet, but what is so clearly described could and will happen; if we are to believe the Bible. Secular scientists are aware of this possibility of a devastating sunstrike, in fact, they say there is a high probability of such an event and it could occur at any time.
It is a mistake to think these prophesies and all the others that tell of this event, are past history, or abrogated by Jesus. Remember He is prophesied to come: ‘like a lightning flash, seen from East to West… Mathew 24:27-28 and ‘with His winnowing fork in His hand …to burn the chaff on a fire….Matthew 3:12
Then: where the vultures gather, there will be the carcasses. Vultures: the attackers of Israel. Carcasses: Those killed on that Day. Ezekiel 30:1-5, Psalm 97:3-5, Jer. 9:22

Not so, brother. You just have to be using the verses that have NOT been already fulfilled! Sorry to say it, but you can't just use all the verses that SEEM like they're saying the same thing! You've gotta DIG a little and confirm each case! Many prophecies are SPECIFIC and have indeed already been fulfilled!

That's not a bad thing! They are now PROOF that God stands behind His Word by the actual fulfillment! And, they are good indicators that He will fulfill the REST of the passages that have NOT already been fulfilled!

Think for a moment: Wouldn't it be awful if NONE of the prophecies given by God's prophets had come true? His prophets would be no different than any other prognosticators, like Nostradamus or Jeanne Dixon!

Yeshua` (Jesus) Himself fulfilled about 400 prophecies during His first coming. They are PROOF that God will fulfill the REST of the prophecies about His Son when He comes again!

Retrobyter, I believe that I HAVE 'dug' a lot in scripture, having written over 500 articles on the Prophetic Word, in four books, all available free.
You disagree with what I point out, but don't show when any of the verses I quoted are in the wrong context or are fulfilled already.
Yes, the prophesies about Jesus' first advent were literally fulfilled and we can expect the ones on the end times to be, as well.
As I say, most people prefer not to face that reality.

My bad! I should have pointed out which ones were already fulfilled! Okay, here you go:

Jeremiah 4:23-29 is NOT about the future. It was about Isra'el's PAST when Nebuchadnezzar came from Babylon and conquered them and took them prisoner to Babylon. Note its context:

Jeremiah 1:1-4:31
1:1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, one of the priests at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin. 2 The word of the LORD came to him in the thirteenth year of the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah, 3 and through the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, down to the fifth month of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah, when the people of Jerusalem went into exile.
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
6 "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."
7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord.
9 Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."
11 The word of the LORD came to me: "What do you see, Jeremiah?"
"I see the branch of an almond tree," I replied.
12 The LORD said to me, "You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled."
13 The word of the LORD came to me again: "What do you see?"
"I see a boiling pot, tilting away from the north," I answered.
14 The LORD said to me, "From the north disaster will be poured out on all who live in the land.
15 I am about to summon all the peoples of the northern kingdoms," declares the LORD.
"Their kings will come and set up their thrones
in the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem;
they will come against all her surrounding walls
and against all the towns of Judah.
16 I will pronounce my judgments on my people
because of their wickedness in forsaking me,
in burning incense to other gods
and in worshiping what their hands have made.
17 "Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them. 18 Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land — against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests and the people of the land. 19 They will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.
2:1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem:
"'I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me
and followed me through the desert,
through a land not sown.
3 Israel was holy to the LORD,
the firstfruits of his harvest;
all who devoured her were held guilty,
and disaster overtook them,'" declares the LORD.
4 Hear the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob,
all you clans of the house of Israel.
5 This is what the LORD says:
"What fault did your fathers find in me,
that they strayed so far from me?
They followed worthless idols
and became worthless themselves.
6 They did not ask, 'Where is the LORD,
who brought us up out of Egypt
and led us through the barren wilderness,
through a land of deserts and rifts,
a land of drought and darkness,
a land where no one travels and no one lives?'
7 I brought you into a fertile land
to eat its fruit and rich produce.
But you came and defiled my land
and made my inheritance detestable.
8 The priests did not ask,
'Where is the LORD?'
Those who deal with the law did not know me;
the leaders rebelled against me.
The prophets prophesied by Baal,
following worthless idols.
9 "Therefore I bring charges against you again," declares the LORD.
"And I will bring charges against your children's children.
10 Cross over to the coasts of Kittim and look,
send to Kedar and observe closely;
see if there has ever been anything like this:
11 Has a nation ever changed its gods?
(Yet they are not gods at all.)
But my people have exchanged their Glory
for worthless idols.
12 Be appalled at this, O heavens,
and shudder with great horror," declares the LORD.
13 "My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me,
the spring of living water,
and have dug their own cisterns,
broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
14 Is Israel a servant, a slave by birth?
Why then has he become plunder?
15 Lions have roared;
they have growled at him.
They have laid waste his land;
his towns are burned and deserted.
16 Also, the men of Memphis and Tahpanhes
have shaved the crown of your head.
17 Have you not brought this on yourselves
by forsaking the LORD your God
when he led you in the way?
18 Now why go to Egypt
to drink water from the Shihor?
And why go to Assyria
to drink water from the River?
19 Your wickedness will punish you;
your backsliding will rebuke you.
Consider then and realize
how evil and bitter it is for you
when you forsake the LORD your God
and have no awe of me," declares the LORD, the LORD Almighty.
20 "Long ago you broke off your yoke
and tore off your bonds;
you said, 'I will not serve you!'
Indeed, on every high hill
and under every spreading tree
you lay down as a prostitute.
21 I had planted you like a choice vine
of sound and reliable stock.
How then did you turn against me
into a corrupt, wild vine?
22 Although you wash yourself with soda
and use an abundance of soap,
the stain of your guilt is still before me," declares the Sovereign LORD.
23 "How can you say, 'I am not defiled;
I have not run after the Baals'?
See how you behaved in the valley;
consider what you have done.
You are a swift she-camel
running here and there,
24 a wild donkey accustomed to the desert,
sniffing the wind in her craving —
in her heat who can restrain her?
Any males that pursue her need not tire themselves;
at mating time they will find her.
25 Do not run until your feet are bare
and your throat is dry.
But you said, 'It's no use!
I love foreign gods,
and I must go after them.'
26 "As a thief is disgraced when he is caught,
so the house of Israel is disgraced —
they, their kings and their officials,
their priests and their prophets.
27 They say to wood, 'You are my father,'
and to stone, 'You gave me birth.'
They have turned their backs to me
and not their faces;
yet when they are in trouble, they say,
'Come and save us!'
28 Where then are the gods you made for yourselves?
Let them come if they can save you
when you are in trouble!
For you have as many gods
as you have towns, O Judah.
29 "Why do you bring charges against me?
You have all rebelled against me," declares the LORD.
30 "In vain I punished your people;
they did not respond to correction.
Your sword has devoured your prophets
like a ravening lion.
31 "You of this generation, consider the word of the LORD:
"Have I been a desert to Israel
or a land of great darkness?
Why do my people say, 'We are free to roam;
we will come to you no more'?
32 Does a maiden forget her jewelry,
a bride her wedding ornaments?
Yet my people have forgotten me,
days without number.
33 How skilled you are at pursuing love!
Even the worst of women can learn from your ways.
34 On your clothes men find
the lifeblood of the innocent poor,
though you did not catch them breaking in.
Yet in spite of all this
35 you say, 'I am innocent;
he is not angry with me.'
But I will pass judgment on you
because you say, 'I have not sinned.'
36 Why do you go about so much,
changing your ways?
You will be disappointed by Egypt
as you were by Assyria.
37 You will also leave that place
with your hands on your head,
for the Lord has rejected those you trust;
you will not be helped by them.
3:1 "If a man divorces his wife
and she leaves him and marries another man,
should he return to her again?
Would not the land be completely defiled?
But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers —
would you now return to me?" declares the LORD.
2 "Look up to the barren heights and see.
Is there any place where you have not been ravished?
By the roadside you sat waiting for lovers,
sat like a nomad in the desert.
You have defiled the land
with your prostitution and wickedness.
3 Therefore the showers have been withheld,
and no spring rains have fallen.
Yet you have the brazen look of a prostitute;
you refuse to blush with shame.
4 Have you not just called to me:
'My Father, my friend from my youth,
5 will you always be angry?
Will your wrath continue forever?'
This is how you talk,
but you do all the evil you can."
6 During the reign of King Josiah, the LORD said to me, "Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree and has committed adultery there. 7 I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it. 8 I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery. 9 Because Israel's immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stone and wood. 10 In spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to me with all her heart, but only in pretense," declares the LORD.
11 The LORD said to me, "Faithless Israel is more righteous than unfaithful Judah. 12 Go, proclaim this message toward the north:
"'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the LORD,
'I will frown on you no longer,
for I am merciful,' declares the LORD,
'I will not be angry forever.
13 Only acknowledge your guilt —
you have rebelled against the LORD your God,
you have scattered your favors to foreign gods
under every spreading tree,
and have not obeyed me,'" declares the LORD.
14 "Return, faithless people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I will choose you — one from a town and two from a clan — and bring you to Zion. 15 Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding. 16 In those days, when your numbers have increased greatly in the land," declares the LORD, "men will no longer say, 'The ark of the covenant of the LORD.' It will never enter their minds or be remembered; it will not be missed, nor will another one be made. 17 At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts. 18 In those days the house of Judah will join the house of Israel, and together they will come from a northern land to the land I gave your forefathers as an inheritance.
19 "I myself said,
"'How gladly would I treat you like sons
and give you a desirable land,
the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.
'I thought you would call me 'Father'
and not turn away from following me.
20 But like a woman unfaithful to her husband,
so you have been unfaithful to me, O house of Israel," declares the LORD.
21 A cry is heard on the barren heights,
the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel,
because they have perverted their ways
and have forgotten the LORD their God.
22 "Return, faithless people;
I will cure you of backsliding."
"Yes, we will come to you,
for you are the LORD our God.
23 Surely the [idolatrous] commotion on the hills
and mountains is a deception;
surely in the LORD our God
is the salvation of Israel.
24 From our youth shameful gods have consumed
the fruits of our fathers' labor —
their flocks and herds,
their sons and daughters.
25 Let us lie down in our shame,
and let our disgrace cover us.
We have sinned against the LORD our God,
both we and our fathers;
from our youth till this day
we have not obeyed the LORD our God."
4:1 "If you will return, O Israel,
return to me," declares the LORD.
"If you put your detestable idols out of my sight
and no longer go astray,
2 and if in a truthful, just and righteous way
you swear, 'As surely as the LORD lives,'
then the nations will be blessed by him
and in him they will glory."
3 This is what the LORD says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem:
"Break up your unplowed ground
and do not sow among thorns.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD,
circumcise your hearts,
you men of Judah and people of Jerusalem,
or my wrath will break out and burn like fire
because of the evil you have done —
burn with no one to quench it.
5 "Announce in Judah and proclaim in Jerusalem and say:
'Sound the trumpet throughout the land!'
Cry aloud and say:
'Gather together!
Let us flee to the fortified cities!'
6 Raise the signal to go to Zion!
Flee for safety without delay!
For I am bringing disaster from the north,
even terrible destruction."
7 A lion has come out of his lair;
a destroyer of nations has set out.
He has left his place
to lay waste your land.
Your towns will lie in ruins
without inhabitant.
8 So put on sackcloth,
lament and wail,
for the fierce anger of the LORD
has not turned away from us.
9 "In that day," declares the LORD,
"the king and the officials will lose heart,
the priests will be horrified,
and the prophets will be appalled."
10 Then I said, "Ah, Sovereign LORD, how completely you have deceived this people and Jerusalem by saying, 'You will have peace,' when the sword is at our throats."
11 At that time this people and Jerusalem will be told, "A scorching wind from the barren heights in the desert blows toward my people, but not to winnow or cleanse; 12 a wind too strong for that comes from me. Now I pronounce my judgments against them."
13 Look! He advances like the clouds,
his chariots come like a whirlwind,
his horses are swifter than eagles.
Woe to us! We are ruined!
14 O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved.
How long will you harbor wicked thoughts?
15 A voice is announcing from Dan,
proclaiming disaster from the hills of Ephraim.
16 "Tell this to the nations,
proclaim it to Jerusalem:
'A besieging army is coming from a distant land,
raising a war cry against the cities of Judah.
17 They surround her like men guarding a field,
because she has rebelled against me,'" declares the LORD.
18 "Your own conduct and actions
have brought this upon you.
This is your punishment.
How bitter it is!
How it pierces to the heart!"
19 Oh, my anguish, my anguish!
I writhe in pain.
Oh, the agony of my heart!
My heart pounds within me,
I cannot keep silent.
For I have heard the sound of the trumpet;
I have heard the battle cry.
20 Disaster follows disaster;
the whole land lies in ruins.
In an instant my tents are destroyed,
my shelter in a moment.
21 How long must I see the battle standard
and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22 "My people are fools;
they do not know me.
They are senseless children;
they have no understanding.
They are skilled in doing evil;
they know not how to do good."
23 I looked at the earth,
and it was formless and empty;
and at the heavens,
and their light was gone.
24 I looked at the mountains,
and they were quaking;
all the hills were swaying.
25 I looked, and there were no people;
every bird in the sky had flown away.
26 I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert;
all its towns lay in ruins
before the LORD, before his fierce anger.
27 This is what the LORD says:
"The whole land will be ruined,

though I will not destroy it completely.
28 Therefore the earth will mourn
and the heavens above grow dark,
because I have spoken and will not relent,
I have decided and will not turn back."
29 At the sound of horsemen and archers

every town takes to flight.
Some go into the thickets;
some climb up among the rocks.
All the towns are deserted;
no one lives in them.
30 What are you doing, O devastated one?
Why dress yourself in scarlet
and put on jewels of gold?
Why shade your eyes with paint?
You adorn yourself in vain.
Your lovers despise you;
they seek your life.
31 I hear a cry as of a woman in labor,
a groan as of one bearing her first child —
the cry of the Daughter of Zion gasping for breath,
stretching out her hands and saying,
"Alas! I am fainting;
my life is given over to murderers."
NIV

I'll take these one at a time. Sometimes, the context is a bit much; however, only the context will determine whether the prophecy is still too general to understand to whom it is referring or if it is specific enough to be able to point to a time in earth's history when the prophecy was fulfilled in the past.

Retro, I do not see Jeremiah 4 as being fulfilled. Partly, yes but in no way totally. Verse 23-26 say those effects are caused by the Lord's anger, not by humans, verse 27-28 make this clear; 'the heavens will turn black', did not happen in ancient times.
Do you not agree that God will keep His 'Appointed times"?
Do you not think 'we are as in the days of Noah'?
Will there be some dramatic events BEFORE the Lord Jesus Returns?
How will God prepare His people for that Return?

On the contrary: Jesus does come with the Day of the Lord.

Two: it is not 1260 days after the abomination desolator.

The sequence, given in Mt 24:15-31, that Jesus delineates is:
  1. Midpoint abomination - talking image of the anti-Christ IAW Rev 13:14-15
  2. The Great Tribulation - a singular event because it is the worst time ever - shortened in length by God (not the full second half of the one 'seven').
  3. The sun/moon/star sign which precedes the Day of the Lord and is God's indelible stamp signifying it is from Him.
  4. The sign of the Son of Man - Jesus coming on the clouds of Heaven
  5. Followed by the Rapture of those still alive and remain after the Great Tribulation has decimated the Elect.

When those so gathered on the Day of the Lord are assembled in Heaven, then the seventh Seal is broken, and afterward:
The first Trumpet of God's Wrath provides the fire and blood of the Day of the Lord's Wrath.

Now your list is imaginative and creative and generally I like it. However, I cannot say with certainty that every verse you cite is indeed applicable. Indeed, I would not consider many to be describing exactly for the moment you are talking about, namely, the Day of the Lord.

Furthermore, I find it interesting that you do not use the Book of Revelation, especially the first Trump, to be included in the action which proceeds on this dreadful day (for the wicked).
P.S. A coronal mass explosion might be how God provides the fire of the Day of the Lord, but the Bible rarely ever says how God will do something. It is just enough to know that the Wrath He enumerates happens and we are saved from it by our faith. I don't think a coronal mass explosion quite fits the bill with prophecy.

Thanks Marcus, at least you acknowledge my use of scripture to make the complete story of how the Lord will act to destroy His enemies.
But because you don't differentiate between 'the Day of the Lord's vengeance and wrath' [Rev, 6:12-17] and the 'Great Day of the Sovereign Lord' [Rev 16:14] you confuse the two events.
We are told not to mess with the Book of Revelation and there is a clear sequence of Seals, Trumpets and Bowls, that will lead up to the Return Of Jesus. Note that with a scroll, the seals must be removed before it can be unrolled. The 7 Seals have to happen first, the first five have been opened, as history proves. Therefore, the Sixth Seal is the next prophesied event we can expect, it will be the Lord's judgement/punishment of the nations. Hab. 3:12 A devastation, particularly onto the Middle east, but affecting all the world. Not the same as what is described at the Return, where Jesus destroys the armies attacking Jerusalem by the Sword of His Word.
What you and many can't seem to see, is there must be some kind of dramatic event to sort out the holy Land area and all the rest of the world as well, to commence the end time lead up to the Return. That event will be seen as a natural occurrence by most of the survivors and they will establish a OWG. But those who believe in and trust the Lord will be protected and they will go to live in all of the holy Land. Note in Rev 7, there will be a 'vast multitude' gathered there, after they have 'passed thru the great ordeal' of the Sixth Seal. Not the Great Tribulation, that does not come until the leader of the OWG comes to Jerusalem and desecrates the new Temple.
Re the 1260 days, I take that from Rev 12, where righteous Israel, 'the woman', are taken to safety during the G.T. They are gathered back at the Return, Matthew 24:31
Re will the Lord use a CME? This is the only way that all the graphic prophesies about this terrible Day can be literally fulfilled. Anyway Isaiah 30:26 cannot be explained in any other way. It will happen and it could be tomorrow.

I didn't say that. I do not think your creative and imaginative listing makes a complete story of what our Lord Jesus will do on His Day of the Lord.

I did not mention either reference so for you to say I don't differentiate between the two is a presumption on your part. Since I have built my own eschatology which includes both verses in their wider context of their narratives' sequences of events; furthermore I would render my opinion that I do not confuse either one. My opinion is backed by cross-checking with Scripture, and as there is no dichotomy or dissonance, I remain convinced that I am on the right track in my endeavor.

I do not think that is what the admonishment John gives not to add or subtract from his testimony and so pollute the Revelation of Christ Jesus means to us as given at the end of the book vis-a-vis interpretation, which is an entirely separate matter.

Instead, at the start we are told: Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. I would say we should heed what is written and that takes knowledge and understanding.

I disagree with your timing on Christ's parousia coincidental with the Day of the Lord. Of the two battles mentioned which do happen on the Day of the Lord in the Old Testament prophecies, neither are associated with the final battle of the one 'seven' which happens in the hill country of Ephraim by "har Meggido." (Armageddon)

This does not meant that Armageddon doesn't happen with the Day of the Lord as the only test; it just means there is no direct evidence it does. Furthermore, a compilation of the sequence of events precludes that final battle from happening on the Day of the Lord. The proof is in the parallel account within the book of Revelation in chapters 13 through 16 inclusive - which, in my opinion, is a detailed account of just the one 'seven' with its two halves. The coming of our Lord on the clouds is set prior to the final battle where He goes with His Army (of 144,000).
I do not disagree that the Seals allow the Scroll's desolations to go forth as described by the Trumpet Judgments, nor do I disagree that the Bowl Judgments are last - revealed as the third Woe which is conspicuously absent in describing exactly what happens with it from the broader overview account of the Seals and the Scroll in Revelations' chapters 4 through 11 (exclusive of 11:1-13).
keras said:

I agree that the Seals have to happen first, but I disagree that you can definitively state WHEN the fifth Seal is opened. As it is tied to the influx of martyrs, and as we can expect a terrible reduction in the body of the Elect (of whom we are a part) in the Great Tribulation - and as the Great Tribulation has not yet begun - and most solidly because with the fifth Seal it is tied to no earthly event in the broader sequence of events - we cannot say it has been opened up so early.

It is reasonable however, to tie the fifth Seal to the Great Tribulation, but as to its exact timing, we cannot hazard a guess; it is nebulous at best in our linear time frame. It could come before, during, or just before the close. I think the first most likely, but to say it has already happened is quite beyond your ability to prove it so. History's martyrs are presented in the fifth Seal when the "second Heaven" is revealed just below the "third Heaven" of God the Father's presence. So historical martyrs do not indicate that the fifth Seal has already been opened.

It is my opinion that the first four Seals are already at work in the world to bring the world up to a fever pitch which would propel people to accept a beast of a man as their savior who in turn, heads up a beast of a nation.
keras said:

Ah, no. Since your premise is not correct in my opinion, I disagree with your conclusion. While the sixth will most certainly follow the fifth because that is the sequence in which those events are given in the broad overview of the Seals and the Scroll in that parallel account within the book of Revelation, it is not the next prophesied event.

There are at least two big events we should watch for: the formation of the fourth terrible beast out of three end-time nations, and the start of the one 'seven' with the agreement the anti-Christ will forge through his might. With these two events we can then pin the tail on the Man of Perdition and know our true enemy. This will then start the clock for the midpoint abomination and the ensuing Great Tribulation. Once the first two happen, then it will be time to prepare for the end.

The point of Habukkak chapter 3 is to magnify God alluding to all His Works. It is a summation of His Power and verse 12 does not specify what you say it does. The actions it describes in conclusion as having happened though, would include many events such as what our Lord does on the Day of the Lord as Israel is one of the nations.
keras said:

I refute that you "know" what I "see" seemingly or otherwise. The Day of the Lord's purpose, in one aspect, is to cleanse the Land, and set Israel up as a rock upon which to latter smash the nations.

Zec 12:3 It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.

The dramatic event, the tipping point as it were, comes with the apex of the anti-Chist's rise: the midpoint abomination. Then, God responds. The first-responders, God's Marines, are the Two Witnesses.

I disagree with all these statements.

The northern half of the Northern Hemisphere of the world will coalescence in reaction to its primary threat: the South - Islam. This federation of three great nations will eventually rule the entire world, if only for a day at the end of the one 'seven.' However, the formation of the fourth terrible beast can be understood totally within man-made politics. Indeed, it is entirely political, and the rise of the little horn happens politically within the ruling circle of ten ministers who preside over this federation.

Those who believe in the Lord will be warred upon by the fourth terrible beast's rulers. The ten ministers are aligned with the anti-Christ in that regard: they hate God. We will not be protected. Jesus said: 'we will he handed over.' We will be persecuted and oppressed. Witnessing for Christ may indeed become a "hate-crime."

We will not gather in Israel; the Great Multitude is assembled in the "third Heaven" of God the Father's presence.

There is no wrath of Biblical proportion which precedes the gathering of the Elect. (It follows it though, in spades.)

I agree that the Great Tribulation does not come until the erection of the midpoint abomination, the talking image of the anti-Christ.

However, at that point, he is not ruling the whole world. There are still wars to be fought and other "forces" arrayed against him, namely the South and the East.

Negative.

The woman is naturally born Israel (check out Joseph's dream in Genesis 37) and specifically that remnant of Israel, a third according to Zechariah, whom the Lord shepherds through the tribulation commenced by the evil duo and the ensuing desolations wrought by God in the second half of the one 'seven.'

They are eventually gathered at Mount Zion after the one 'seven' awaiting the Millennium.

The woman is differentiated in Revelation 12 from her "offspring" - us - as we believe in Christ Jesus for our salvation, and at this point, she does not. Only later does she realize that her Messiah King is the same Servant Messiah she eschewed.

Mt 24:31 does not happen at the end of the one 'seven' but after the (abruptly) shortened Great Tribulation.
Mt 24:31 is for us, not the woman in Revelation 12 which represents the remnant of Israel God protects.

I do not think that a coronal mass ejection quite fits the bill of light intensity described by Isaiah 30:26. It is quite different than that in its manifestation upon the earth.

So Isaiah 30:26 can be explained another way, and I disagree with your opinion on this matter. It's a nice, and creative way of looking at things; but not one I agree with at all.

Over and out.

Thanks Marcus. You say; I have built my own eschatology. Fine, your prerogative.

Just note that all the verses I quote in #15 can [and will] be literally fulfilled by a massive CME. You don't explain what other way 'the sun shining with 7 times its normal brightness and the moon as bright as the sun', could happen?

You see a bleak future for those who believe in God and follow Jesus. I could quote many scriptures that say, on the contrary, the Lord's people look forward to an amazing life in all of the holy Land. And how this will be possible, is the near total depopulation of the Middle East in this 'fire from the sky' event.

Those who try to keep their life will lose it, but those who lose their life for Christ will keep it eternally. I wouldn't call Heaven a bleak future.
