As a Christian is it wrong to want to die? My life has been terrible and full of torment (retire from the Navy in 2 years). I constantly ask God to let me die and bring me home, is this wrong? My wife gets mad at me but I am tired and life doesn't seem to get any easier, it just keeps getting worse. The only thing that keeps me going is that I know God is real and I work for him.

To live is to Christ, to die is to gain...

I want to go home, but I am thankful for everyday God uses me on this earth for His purpose. Every situation is different, yet we are called to give thanks in all things. (1 Thessalonians 5:18, Ephesians 5:20)

Life is a challenge, but God will meet you in the midst of it all. Philippians 4:19

Instead of asking God to take you home, which He will do in His time, why not ask Him what you can do for Him while you are here?

A little insight...

LOVE...LOVE...LOVE

Love all those you come in contact with. Love your wife like today is your last day. Love all your work personnel. Be the light that God put in you. Live intentionally as God's personal ambassador of His all powerful, unconditional love. All the relationships you are involved with today represent your ability to live out God's precious love.

God has given you of His Spirit. Live it out everyday, through the love He empowers you to become.

In the Love of Christ!

We decide the meaning in our life - not our circumstances. I encourage you to continue to choose love. Race for the finish line and finish with Gods glory fully manifested in your life

You just need to change your perspective on this life. Death is not an end it is a beginning of ETERNAL life! ETERNAL, meditate on this word for a while. Thousands, millions of years from now in the house of our Lord you will not even remember what you are going through right now.

What is happening to you now is to form your character for the life that is ahead. For Millennial Kingdom and beyond. Did you read my testimonial? I can send it to you. It will explain some things that you need to know. He will rule the nations with iron rod in Millennial Kingdom right? It is not going to be a democracy but a perfect and divine dictatorship. We are to enforce his rule over following generations. Yes, dictatorship. Enjoy fruits of human self-rule, democracy for a little while longer.

If you think about it was a plan from the beginning of Israel. Judges were to rule the nation by getting direct revelations from God Himself but judges got lazy and it went downhill from there. In Millennial Kingdom people that came out of Heaven when it comes to Earth will not get lazy and will do what is needed to keep following generations in line. If you make it to Heaven you will be one of those people that will never get lazy.

Teaching about Millennial Kingdom is almost entirely absent from mainstream Christianity, yet it is so important! We are here, for few decades to develop our character so that we can rule for God! In the way we are going to be government employees in the government of God Himself!

You think that after you die you will go to some boredom house in the sky where you will sit on the cloud and play on harp for all eternity? Think again! We will have places to go and things to do! You will be working for God in capacity that is perfectly fulfilling and fitting for your character because it is a role, "job" for which you were created! Look forward to that! Look up into glorious future God created for you not a daily grind of pain and problems!

So, you have a health problem? It is to form your character in some way. Do not give up just keep dealing with it the best you can. Some day you will understand why it had to happen, it just so happen today is not that day. It maybe teaching your character patience and perseverance. What does not kill you makes you stronger.

Money problems - character.

Relationship problems - character

Problems are blessings in disguises.

Hi Thunderkat ... Let me begin by saying that "life's issues" are seasonal ... whatever you might be facing will eventually go away.
Sure it might be horrible now, but you must remember "Boot Camp" right, well when you were going through it, it might have seemed like hell on earth
but it's over now, past you ... it ended right ? ... of course it did :D

Jesus Christ your new Commander has given orders to hang in there and "Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called,
and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses". (1 Tim 6:12)

We your brothers and sisters here at Christianity Board are those witnesses and we have seen your good confession, now brother, take hold of the
eternal life to which you were called, and fight this good fight.
Remember that you have an enemy that wants to take you out, the question is now ...Are you going to let him or are you going to laugh in his face ?

Paul encourages us and says, "Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong" 1 Cor 16:13

Remember brother none of us here have met one another and in all likelihood might never in this life, but we love each other in Christ and are here
for one another.

Go in peace and be strong, remember your Saviour and do good to others.

Another verse that came to mind...

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

This verse helped me when I was tired like you.

IMO, life is a very precious gift from God, and as such should not be squandered or taken frivolously.

Maybe when you're retired from the military you can find a way to use this precious gift for a higher purpose, e.g., helping those less fortunate?

That is the thing that is making me the most upset. All my life all people do is take and take. My health is failing me and the navy wants more and more. Growing up life was terrible too, I was the guy everybody made fun of and beat up all the time, until my junior year in high school then I realized I could fight and do it very well and I beat up everybody that started anything. After all that growing up and the military I am drained. I have helped so many people and now I can't or don't want to give anymore. It is my turn, need to get this diabetes under control and get some attention for my bad back and bad knees not to mention plantar fasciitis. I am ready to rest, the less fortunate need to leave me alone. Fourty years of being drained, it is time to recharge my batteries.

What do you think God would say if you asked Him what you should do with the rest of the life He has given you?

I don't know but being drained by people all my life is why I want Heaven to be a very solitary place for me. After all I have done I think I have earned some rest. You don't know my life so I am not going to be upset with you but I have done more than my share for other people. Now that I feel like I am getting close to the end and my health is failing people just want to get that last little bit from me. I am starting to tell people NO more and more often now. To have a nice little place on a beautiful island with nobody around me for years at at time...that would be Heaven. God is good and just and I know there will be rest for me eventually.

I feel for you. It sounds like you've had it rough for sure. I guess without knowing all the factors at play here, all any of us can say is to pray that God give you strength and guidance, and let His will be done.

Take care. :)

I am sorry you have experience so much suffering. Life is brutal - sometimes I think it is the Fall in slow motion. Thankfully it ends well.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
“Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” (Luke 5:16)
“Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them.” (Luke 6:12-13)
“When Jesus heard what had happened [that John the Baptist was beheaded], he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.” (Matthew 14:13)
“Because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, [Jesus] said to [his disciples], ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’ So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.” (Mark 6:31-32)
Jesus said to his disciples and a crowd of people: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Take heart...

Well, when I look at dumps like Liberia, the absolute worst place you can possibly be in, that automatically forfeits this planet as worth living on in my eyes and I personally can't wait to get off of it. Places like Liberia exemplifies why God needs to put an end to this world pronto.

People do and will suck the life out of you if you allow it. There comes a point, and it sounds like your past it, when you need to tell them to handle things themselves. We live in a world where there are a half dozen takers for every giver. I'd just suggest trying to leave other peoples problems with them. Whenever they unload on you, just say "Good luck with that". Otherwise they'll tap you for help all the way to your grave. Your probably not tired of life, your just burnt-out with everything falling on your shoulders and need some time for yourself now. I'm sure your health issues don't help, but find that island and make yourself priority one. At times, I'd like to do likewise, but I can't afford an island :)

Thank you for the responses, sometimes I get caught up in everything and forget the basics. Three day weekend coming up and I don't have to work this weekend, time for some sleep!

Bless your heart!!!! I will pray for you! Dearest Father in heaven, I pray for his health to improve. I pray for his needs and I pray that he may have the solitude that he needs. I pray that your love will rain down upon him. Every morning may you show him how much you love him. May your Spirit lift him up in every way! May the joy of living return to him! I pray this in Jesus name!
Peace dear Brother- May God heal you and help you in every way.

Know that you are loved!!!!!

Know that we appreciate you and the sacrifices that you make!

Yes, it is wrong. It is selfish. We all think like that though.

God gives us our daily strength. We should all be glad that we have another day on earth today to witness to our lost friends and family. There is no 'rest' for a Christian on earth. You can live on your island, but rest assured God will send wicked people there to you that need Him ^_^.

I think you are just tired of your line of work. Time for a change of work!

Is it wrong to want to die...? No. If someone is under an extreme amount of stress and pain - psychological or physical - then that person is simply acting to survive.

Is a want to die a sign of a deep pain and personal. emotional wounding, yes.

Men and women who decide to take their life are doing so because of an unbearable amount of psychological / spiritual stress, not because living is 'inconvenient'. Thunderkat, you are not weak or lacking faith by sharing your feelings here about your grief and pain. Your confession is quite the opposite, it is 'going out into the world as a lamb.' Bearing your heart isn't 'weakness',bearing your soul is the strength and grace Christ embodied as he shared his message of love in a world that shuns vulnerability.

Everyone has limits to the amount of stress and emotional pain they can handle, otherwise the world would be a perfect place and no one would feel depressed or have difficulties in life. Surely, working in the Armed Forces in any capacity is stressful, definitely moreso than the stresses of the average citizen. Just as a muscle or the body can become worn down and fatigued from constant stress and overwork, the mind and soul can also become a burden rather than a source of salvation.

About 13 years ago, I deeply considered taking my own life. I had lost my job, was experiencing an onset of a mental illness and was homeless. In times where your life is in your hands, the best thing to do is ask for and get help for handling the life you have.

I decided to seek out professional counselling and undergo a round of treatment with anti-depressants. After about six months my mind started to clear up and with the help of God and my family, my mind became clearer and I decided to move back home with my parents. I also went back to church after a time away which helped as well.

If you can, find the faith to ask for help from someone you trust will accept and give you clear advice on how to deal with the pain you are experiencing. It could be a friend or a pastor or a counselor.

If you can, reach out. Let God do the rest.

I think it depends on your thought process. God would not want us to just give up: in all ways he is always with us, offering us peace beyond understanding. On the other hand, I am looking forward to being with Him and have no fear of death. That is unless it will be painful, I am a wimp and freely admit it.

God Bless
Kim
