Let's try and narrow our focus a little bit. Dan. 9:27 – “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

Most folks believe the emboldened phrase means the exact middle of the week, the 1261st day. I don’t believe that to be true. While the word “chetsiy” (H2677) translated as “midst” can be defined as “half” or the “middle” it can also be used for “part”. Usually, it is translated as “half” when used as a measurement or counting something and by far this word is defined as “half” in the majority of times it is used which is close to 100 times. It is translated as “part” 3 times and “midst” 6 times and “middle” once. It is also the word used when writing “mid”night (twice). Let’s take a look at an example of when it is translated as “midst”.

Josh. 10:13 – “And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.”

I don’t believe this is implying the exact middle of the sky, just generally, somewhere up in the sky as it didn’t continue its movement towards sunset. I like to use this analogy. Let’s say there is a bible chapter with 19 verses. We have a first verse (1) a last verse (19) and a middle verse (10) but all the verses from 2-18 can be considered the “midst” of the chapter.

With this said, I think many of us have been looking at the 70th week all wrong. Instead of trying to divide the prophecies into a first half or latter half position, something the scriptures never actually imply. I think we should look at the 70th week as a whole, NOT, two halves. I'm going to depart from the typical prewrath timing here and state that I believe the 2300 days of Dan. 8:14 and the 1290 and 1335 days of Dan. 12:11-12 are all within the context of the 70th week.

Concerning Joshua 10:13, modern interpreters often cite the historical context of hyperbole where a figurative meaning rather than a literal one necessitates a fantastic miracle of kinetic physics to take place. Literally, if you stop the earth from rotating - instantaneously - everything on the earth would suddenly be propelled eastward at a 1000 miles per hour. So not only would the earth have to stop spinning, everything on it would have to be held in place, and that goes against the action being described.

I prefer Joshua 10:13 in the context of a story-telling, non-scientific culture describing that the battle went on for what seemed like a long time. This happens in critical situations where we experience time seemingly slowing down.

As to the "midst," if Daniel 9:27 were in a vacuum, then you might have a point, but when Jesus, by the Father, reveals to John the months, years, and even days of each half of the one 'seven,' then we might think this "midst" is the halfway point, and Gabriel divides it first in the chronology it is given, signifying to me, that the break in the one 'seven' is important.

As it is: I look at the one 'seven' as the rise and the fall of the anti-Christ, and it is set up like a story... but that is not unique in the Bible. The Prodigal Son is perhaps the best short story ever written, and Jesus is the author.

Dan. 9:27 – “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

And he (Jesus) will confirm the covenant = This is the blood of the new covenant, which is shed for the remission of sins
with many = and believers were multiplied
for one week = after 3 1/2 years Cornelius became the first gentile believer. (The fulfillment of the 3 1/2 years of confirmation of the covenant with the Jews)
and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease = after 3 1/2 years of Jesus ministry in his crucifixion he said it is finished.
and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation.” = destruction of Jerusalem when Jerusalem became desolate.
and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate = Destruction of Jerusalem predicted

Hi Flaming, If you read the Dan. 9:24-27 post then you will find where I don't believe that interpretation is the correct one as it lacks the 100% fulfillment criteria.

Hi Marcus, Regarding Josh. 10:13, I believe it was literal but that's not the point. The point was the definition of "midst".

Your words: "but when Jesus, by the Father, reveals to John the months, years, and even days of each half of the one 'seven,' then we might think this "midst" is the halfway point, and Gabriel divides it first in the chronology it is given, signifying to me, that the break in the one 'seven' is important."

It is only assumed by man that they represent different halves. Please provide a scripture reference for the highlighted part as I don't see a break between two points of the 70th week.

You're kidding right?

The sidebar account of the Temple and the Two Witnesses in Rev 11:1-13
Rev 11:2 Leave out the court which is outside the temple and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty- two months. (First half - the Temple will be built and in place for the talking image abomination to be set up by the false prophet for the conquering King of the North who rushes out like a flood to proclaim himself god in the Holy Place) 3 And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for twelve hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth." (Second half - the Two Witnesses precede Christ, coming with the start of the Great Tribulation which begins when the anti-Christ proclaims himself god and the false prophet enacts two terrible laws which Jesus tells us not to obey - which carry a death sentence with each for us.)

From the twin parallel accounts of chapter 12 - the Woman (Israel) and the Dragon (Satan)
Rev 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness where she *had a place prepared by God, so that there she would be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days. (Second half, the remnant Jews fleeing Judah at the midpoint right before the abomination is set up.)
Rev 12:14 But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she *was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.: (Same time period: same action. In response, the anti-Christ under demonic influence persecutes the Elect - Christians - in the Great Tribulation, which again starts at the midpoint.)

From the detailed parallel account of the one 'seven' - the rise and fall of the anti-Christ -- Revelation chapters 13-16.
Rev 13:5 There was given to him a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies, and authority to act for forty- two months was given to him. (This is the first half where he wages war on the Elect, suppressing them and oppressing Christ's Word through us. This precedes the midpoint abomination described later in the chapter; it is the first half of the one 'seven.')

There are five times a half of the one 'seven' is mentioned in three chapters in Revelation.

This dictates parallel account construction which allows for a "replay" of what has already taken place so as to describe a different element associated with that event or action.

Each half is composed of 42 months of "prophetic" 30 days, or 1260 days for each, which is three years and a half. [3 = a time (1 year) + times (2 years)]

Hi Marcus, Of course I'm aware of the division of prophetic time.

Your words: "There are five times a half of the one 'seven' is mentioned in three chapters in Revelation."

Do those numbers equal a half of the 70th week? Yes

Does scripture emphasize they are a half of the 70th week? No, that is assumed by us because it makes a pretty mathematical picture. There is nothing in scripture that doesn't preclude the possibility that some of them are parallel and not halves. There is nothing in scripture that prevents them from being years 2-5, for example.

Your words: "Each half is composed of 42 months of "prophetic" 30 days, or 1260 days for each, which is three years and a half. [3 = a time (1 year) + times (2 years)."

I guess that's my point. The scriptures don't say they represent one half of the 70th week. WE DO! Looking at the 70th week as a whole, instead of 2 halves doesn't really change the pattern of events, it just allows for more flexibility and understanding. It's not impossible that those "number of days" could come up with three separate 1260 day periods. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't get so locked into one interpretation, that we close ourselves off to other possibilities.

Jesus revealed the details to John about something He remarked upon in the Olivet Discourse (sourcing back to Daniel about the abominations/desolation) that the abomination was a talking image. Plus, He further revealed the actions or events in those two halves of the one 'seven.'

Furthermore, we now know why the Great Tribulation (not the "tribulation period", nor is it seven years long, or even three and a half) immediately following the abominations/desolation nearly wipes out the Elect: two laws are enacted when the abomination is revealed to the King of the North, the anti-Christ, which are an eternal death sentence to anyone who follows them - and disobeying them results in your physical death.

So the Scriptures DO split the one 'seven' up, and they do so consistently.

Ultra-literalism is where the person insists that the Bible spell everything out for them. Such people balk at the concept of a single anti-Christ because all the references to him are not spelled out that way. He is called other things instead. Such people say those references are not the same person. Balderdash.

It is foolish not to equate the Daniel 9:27 to Rev 13:14-15 for the abomination. In addition, that means the presentation of each half - first split up by Gabriel when he told Daniel of the one 'seven' - also are speaking of the same thing in chapters 11, 12, and 13.

God gave us minds to use.

Hi Marcus, Your words: "It is foolish not to equate the Daniel 9:27 to Rev 13:14-15 for the abomination."

I do equate them.

Your words: "In addition, that means the presentation of each half - first split up by Gabriel when he told Daniel of the one 'seven' - also are speaking of the same thing in chapters 11, 12, and 13."

As I've shown in previous posts, the word "midst" in most cases doesn't mean "half". Other words are used for that. Is Gabriel splitting up the week into two halves here? No, not in my opinion. He is just telling of an event that will happen sometime within the the 70th week. Let's look at some specifics:

Rev. 11:2,3 The "times" mentioned are not necessarily a first and second half. They could be parallel each other or happen at any time leading up to the "mid" point.

Rev. 12:6,14 I believe these are speaking of the same event but again, could begin at anytime prior and up to the midpoint.

Rev. 13:5 Again, not defined in scripture as a first or latter "half", just a designation of time which could be anytime prior and up to the midpoint.

I'm not saying that some of them might not equate with a "half" but prewrath's view of Dan. 12:11, 12 and putting them "outside" the 70th week has never really satisfied me.

All six things described in Dan. 9:24, must be completed by the end of the 70th week. Since prewrath puts Armageddon after the 70th week, I'm saying I disagree and that all judgments and wars must be completed by the end of the 70th week for a complete 100% accurate fulfillment and for day one of the millennium to begin but that would "mess up" our timelines, but not if we are flexible in looking at the 70th week as a whole instead of two halves.

Oh for crying out loud.

"midst" - which is not how the NASB translate it (perhaps the best word-for-word version out there) - comes from chatsi, H2677.

chatsi is translated as "middle" in the NASB at Daniel 9:27.

chatsi means "half" according to the NASB Exhaustive Concordance.
  • It is translated as "half" 76 times.
  • It is translated as "half-tribe" 37 times.
  • It is translated as "halfway" twice.
  • It is translated as "middle" 6 times (by the NASB)
  • It is translated as "midnight" 3 times.
  • It is translated as "midst" twice.
  • It is translated as "two parts" once.

chatsi comes from H2673 chatsah, a prime root meaning "to divide."
_________________________________________

The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament gives a one word definition for hasi (with inflections I can't type easily just this moment) as "half."

Herbert Wold, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Old Testament, Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, defines hasi as: "half, middle. This masculine noun occurs 123 times and shows a broad range of usages.

The important reference in Dan 9:27 to "the middle of the week" apparently signifies the midpoint of the seven-year period called "the Great Tribulation."

I don't think much of his eschatology, but he is an expert in Hebrew.

That's on pages 313 and 314 of Volume I of that book.
_________________________________________

So I don't care how loose you want to define "midst," Revelation reveals it to be split in half, and that is what the word means.

P.S. The inflections the TWOT uses renders hasi as ḥāṣȋ

Hi Marcus, Let's assume for the moment that you are correct. At what point prior to the completion of the 70th week do you see ALL the following being fulfilled?

"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to
[a] finish the transgression
[b ] and to make an end of sins,
[c] and to make reconciliation for iniquity, (completed)
[d] and to bring in everlasting righteousness, (partially completed, still awaiting it for Israel and Jerusalem)
[e] and to seal up the vision and prophecy,
[f] and to anoint the most holy."

and in your opinion what does day 2520 look like?

Shalom, guys.

Hey, Trekson, I really have to side with Marcus on this one.

Look the word is “cheetsiy,” spelled “chet-tsadday-yod.” With the vowel pointing, it is spelled “cheit-tsere-tsadday-chireq-yod.” Thus, it is pronounced “chay-TSEE” with the “ch” like the “ch” in the Scottish word “loch” as in “Loch Ness."

It’s found in Strong’s here:

OT:2677 cheetsiy (khay-tsee'); from OT:2673; the half or middle:
KJV - half, middle, mid [-night], midst, part, two parts.
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Within the Scriptures and according to the Englishman’s Concordance, it is found 175 times in these verses:

Exodus 12:29
29 And it came to pass, that at midnight (literally, “in half of the night”) the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.

[a] finish the transgression = Jesus was crucified for our transgressions, at the cross he said "it is finished"
[b ] and to make an end of sins,=but now once at the end of the ages hath he been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
[c] and to make reconciliation for iniquity, = Jesus has reconciled us to the father
[d] and to bring in everlasting righteousness, = Jesus is our everlasting righteousness
[e] and to seal up the vision and prophecy, = Jesus fulfilled all the visions and prophecies Luke 24:44
[f] and to anoint the most holy." = Jesus was anointed, Jesus is the Holy one of God.

the 70th week of Daniel has already been fulfilled.
The weeks were continuous there is no reason for a fictitious gap in the 70 weeks.

There will be war unto the end.

We still have war today.

But we haven't seen a seven year covenant.

Nor have we seen the abominations.

God's desolations as revealed later have not come either.

Full Preterism is the weakest of all eschatologies.

Hi Flaming, Spiritualizing everything is an improper way to deal with prophecy. The prophecy wasn't for the church and while some aspects such as reconciliation for sin were accomplished, the complete list was not, as it is specifically for Israel and Jerusalem.

Hi Retro, Defining what a word means is an important aspect of Bible study but it is also just plain wrong to assume "majority rules" in this type of situation. When a word has many meanings one just can't assume it will always mean the same thing, that's being lazy. In a way you kind of helped prove my point. When the word is intended to mean "half", then "half" is used. When it is used to mean a "part" or something more or less than "half" a word like "midst" is used. I can only speak for myself but when I look at the 70th week as a whole, instead of two halves, a lot of the other prophetic scriptures seem to make more sense and creates a more logical timeline. At least as far as any of us can do with the partial info we have.

Hi Marcus, We certainly agree about preterism, but you didn't specifically answer my questions.

The 70 weeks were continuous there is not one single scripture that says they are not, there is no proof anywhere that the 70 weeks were not continuous.

The belief that there is a gap in the 70 weeks, is pure fiction.

Hi Flaming, Your words: "The 70 weeks were continuous there is not one single scripture that says they are not, there is no proof anywhere that the 70 weeks were not continuous."

Well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it as I am to mine. I do find it interesting though that the scriptural break down of those weeks as found in Dan. 9:24-27 begs to differ.

Dan. 9:24-27 - "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Here's what we know. We know that after the 69th week, the Messiah will be "cut off" (crucified). We know that Christ DID NOT make a limited seven year covenant with anyone. We know that at some point between the 69th week and the 70th that Jerusalem will be destroyed. Some believe that was fulfilled in 70AD, I do not because there was no 7 yr. covenant at that time either and most of the prophecy as stated remains unfulfilled. We know by scripture that the 70th week is a time all to itself, unassociated with the other 69 as it is separated by the scripture itself. You may call it fiction if you like and as such you'll never have a proper understanding of the other prophecies, myself, I consider it logical and just believe the Word of God as written.

That’s a simplistic theory, but you are forgetting two important passages of Scripture:

Along with Daniel 9:27, ...

Daniel 9:27
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
KJV

... is it’s partial fulfillment in Yeshua`s own words:

Matthew 23:37-39
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
KJV

Thus, by denying them the Kingdom and leaving the earth, HE is the One who left them “desolate,” empty, alone, “shelved!"

Therefore, YESHUA` HIMSELF split the final Seven in half - the first half was during His initial offer of the Kingdom to Israel and culminated in His death on the cross, a Roman execution stake, and the second half will be fulfilled AFTER He has returned, when He AGAIN offers Israel the Kingdom.

That splitting of this prophecy has NOTHING TO DO WITH GENTILE BELIEVERS! It has EVERYTHING to do with Israel and whether they will accept Him as their King! While they are being pig-headed and stubborn to believe that Yeshua` was/is the Messiah (whom their ancestors rejected), God has turned His attention to the Goyim - the Gentiles.

One day, however, they will realize the errors their ancestors and they have made. They will then say those words from Psalm 118:26 that Yeshua quoted:

Psalm 118:26
26 Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD.
KJV

The Hebrew of this phrase is “Baruwkh haba’ b-shem YHWH,” which translates to “Welcome, Comer in the authority of YHWH.” They must first WELCOME Him back and THEN He shall return!

The second thing to remember is that GOD makes sacrifices work, NOT human beings! Human beings can try to sacrifice all they want, but if God is not accepting the sacrifices, then they are simply meaningless slaughterings with no merit at all.

Hebrews 10:1-18
1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
KJV

... is a partial fulfillment of the same verse in Daniel 9:

Daniel 9:27
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
KJV

So, sorry. These ARE Scriptural proofs that the gap was put IN THE MIDDLE of the final Seven.

Yes Jesus did make a covenant. "This is the blood of the new covenant"
and there is nothing that indicates the covenant is to last for 7 years, it is a misreading of the scripture.

Those are not proofs, they are simply assumptions with fanciful twisting of the word of God.

Hi Flaming, The passage reads as follows:
Daniel 9:27
27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Now we know that the "one week" equals 7 yrs. Whether one believes it is a new covenant or the confirming of an existing covenant doesn't matter. The scriptures limit it to a "one week" period. No aspect of any covenant Christ was connected to had such limitation, thus the "new covenant" is NOT the covenant being spoken of here which leads to the obvious conclusion that Christ is not the one pictured in this prophecy. Now exactly, how is this misread?

You can deny what you read? The “covenant” in Daniel 9 is NOT the “NEW covenant.” The “one Seven” is a seven-year period ... or WOULD have been, had it been allowed to continue. Again, one must keep in mind the REASONS for the 70 Sevens:

Daniel 9:24
24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city,
(1) to finish the transgression, and
(2) to make an end of sins, and
(3) to make reconciliation for iniquity, and
(4) to bring in everlasting righteousness, and
(5) to seal up the vision and prophecy, and
(6) to anoint the most Holy.

(4) to-usher-in righteousness of-ages and-
(5) to-seal-up vision and-prophecy and-
(6) to-anoint holy of-holies:

Some key things to mention:

First, a “transgression” is an “overstepping of the boundaries.” We in America today would say “trespassing."

Second, there are several words in Hebrew that were translated as “sin,” but this word is the Hebrew word chaTaa’aah (the plural of which is chaTaa’owt), which is in the “cheit-teit-alef” family of words, the one MOST often translated as “sin”:

OT:2403 chaTTaa'aah (khat-taw-aw'); or chaTTaa't (khat-tawth'); from OT:2398; an offence (sometimes habitual sinfulness), and its penalty, occasion, sacrifice, or expiation; also (concretely) an offender:
KJV - punishment (of sin), purifying (-fication for sin), sin (-ner, offering).

(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

[Please note that Strong’s doubled the first “t” (which I record as a “T" to distinguish the “teit” from the “tav,” “t,” two different letters in the Hebrew alefbet) because of the dagesh (the dot in the middle of the Hebrew letter “teit”).]

Thus, the word is DIRECTLY linked and related to the verb form ...

OT:2398 chaaTaa' (khaw-taw'); a primitive root; properly, to miss; hence (figuratively and generally) to sin; by inference, to forfeit, lack, expiate, repent, (causatively) lead astray, condemn:
KJV - bear the blame, cleanse, commit [sin], by fault, harm he hath done, loss, miss, (make) offend (-er), offer for sin, purge, purify (self), make reconciliation, (cause, make) sin (-ful, -ness), trespass.
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Third, “iniquity” is ...

OT:5771 `aavon (aw-vone'); or `aavown (2 Kings 7:9; Ps 51:5 [OT:7]) (aw-vone'); from OT:5753; perversity, i.e. (moral) evil:
KJV - fault, iniquity, mischeif, punishment (of iniquity), sin.

which comes from ...

OT:5753 `aavaah (aw-vaw'); a primitive root; to crook, literally or figuratively (as follows):
KJV - do amiss, bow down, make crooked, commit iniquity, pervert, (do) perverse (-ly), trouble, turn, do wickedly, do wrong.

and is related to ...

OT:5772 `ownah (o-naw'); from an unused root apparently meaning to dwell together; sexual (cohabitation):
KJV - duty of marriage.
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

It’s talking about sexual perversion.

Fourth, “everlasting” is actually the word “`olaamiym,” which is the plural of ...

OT:5769 `owlaam (o-lawm'); or `olaam (o-lawm'); from OT:5956; properly, concealed, i.e. the vanishing point; generally, time out of mind (past or future), i.e. (practically) eternity; frequentatively, adverbial (especially with prepositional prefix) always:
KJV - alway (-s), ancient (time), any more, continuance, eternal, (for, [n-]) ever (-lasting, -more, of old), lasting, long (time), (of) old (time), perpetual, at any time, (beginning of the) world (+without end). Compare OT:5331, OT:5703.

the word comes from ...
OT:5956 `aalam (aw-lam'); a primitive root; to veil from sight, i.e. conceal (literally or figuratively):
KJV - any ways, blind, dissembler, hide (self), secret (thing).

(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

It’s also the second noun in a noun construct state; so, the word “of” is added between them: “righteousness OF ages.” In other words, it is GOD’S righteousness because HE is the only one who spans the ages!

This word is directly related by translation (Psalm 45:7 cf. Hebrews 1:8) to the NT Greek word “aioon,” which is said to mean “an age”:

NT:165 aioon (ahee-ohn'); from the same as NT:104; properly, an age; by extension, perpetuity (also past); by implication, the world; specially (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future):
KJV - age, course, eternal, (for) ever (-more), [n-] ever, (beginning of the while the) world (began, without end). Compare NT:5550.

which is related to the adjective form ...
NT:166 aioonios (ahee-o'-nee-os); from NT:165; perpetual (also used of past time, or past and future as well):
KJV - eternal, for ever, everlasting, world (began).
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. Copyright © 1994, 2003, 2006 Biblesoft, Inc. and International Bible Translators, Inc.)

Thus, this is reminiscent of 2 Corinthians 5:21:

2 Corinthians 5:21
21 For he (God) hath made him (Yeshua`) to be sin for us, who (Yeshua`) knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (Yeshua`).
KJV

This righteousness of God was IN YESHUA` the Messiah!

Finally, the “holy of holies” was a name that was attached to the inner sanctum of the Tabernacle and later to that of the Temple; however, we read this in Hebrews:

Hebrews 9:1-15
1 Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.
2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.
3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all (i.e., the Holy of Holies);
4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;
5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.
6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.
7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:
8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:
9 Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
10 Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal (aiooniou, a form of aioonios) inheritance.
KJV

Then, in the next chapter, the author said, ...

Hebrews 10:19-22
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
21 And having an high priest over the house of God;
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
KJV

So, we have access to God the Father through Yeshua` the Messiah. That means that HE is the “Holy of Holies” for us! Therefore, the “anointing" is for HIM in the phrase, “v-limshoach qadosh qaadaashiym.” Therefore, this verse is not talking about the anointing of the “Holy of Holies” in a future Temple; it is talking about the anointing of the MESSIAH HIMSELF! In fact, the word “v-limshoach” has the same Hebrew letters as “mashiach” or “Messiah!"

Now, let’s look briefly at David’s history of anointing:

First, David was selected by God directly and Sh’mu'el (Samuel) anointed him in I Samuel 16:

1 Samuel 16:11-13
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
KJV

Then, David was anointed a second time by his own tribe, the Tribe of Yhudah, and He became king over the tribe of Yhudah (Judah), or the “king of the Jews":

2 Samuel 2:1-4
1 And it came to pass after this, that David inquired of the LORD saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
2 So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal's wife the Carmelite.
3 And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4 And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.
KJV

Finally, he was anointed once again by all of Isra’el:

2 Samuel 5:1-5
1 Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2 Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.
4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
KJV

The pattern of Yeshua` being anointed king over Isra’el should have followed the same progression!

Indeed, it started right, for Yeshua` was anointed by the LORD at His baptism:

Matthew 3:13-17
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
KJV

Mark 1:9-11
9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
KJV

Luke 3:21-22
21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.
KJV

2 Samuel 7:8-17
8 Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:
9 And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.
10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,
11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the Lord telleth thee that he will make thee an house.
12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.
13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:
15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.
17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.
KJV

And, what words do we read about Yeshua`s birth?
Matthew 2:1-2
1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship (bow and bend the knee to) him.
KJV

Luke 1:30-33
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob (Isra’el) for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
KJV

However, even though it was His destiny to become the King over the tribe of Yhudah or Judah, they rejected Him as their king and did NOT so anoint Him!

Luke 19:11-15, 27
11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.
14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
...

27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
KJV
John 1:11
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
KJV

Thus, if following the pattern of David, halfway through HIS Seven, His seven years and a half, He was rejected and crucified instead! In retaliation for their rejection, He rejected them as well:

Matthew 23:37-39
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till (UNTIL) ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
KJV

Thus, not all of the anointing He should have received was done. He has yet to be anointed by His own tribe, Yhudah or Judah, nor has He been anointed king over all Isra'el. That means that not all of the REASONS for the 70 Sevens have been completed yet! While it doesn’t necessarily mean that a third Temple must be built, it DOES mean that Yeshua` has left them desolate until they humble themselves and ask for Him to return, welcoming Him as God’s Messiah - God’s Anointed! I’ll say it again: HE put the gap in the 70 Sevens, but NOT between the 69th and 70th Sevens! Rather, HE put the gap in the middle of the 70th Seven! Once He has been anointed by all Israel, THEN He will go on to become a “king of kings”; that is, a “world emperor.” In fact, He shall become the "King of kings!"
