I would like to discuss the gifts listed in 1 Corinthians one at a time. I would like to understand what each one was for back then and today. The first one mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12 is word of wisdom. My understanding of this one is a supernatural manifestation, it is not general wisdom. God reveals his mind, purpose and plan to man.General wisdom can be attained by anyone that ask. James 1:5The Gift of word of wisdom is not given to everyone. 1 Corinthians 12:8

Wisdom can be many things its not just one thingAll Wisdom comes from Godthe Greek word used here for Wisdom is:sophia1) wisdom, broad and full of intelligence; used of the knowledge of very diverse mattersa) the wisdom which belongs to men1) spec. the varied knowledge of things human and divine, acquired by acuteness and experience, and summed up in maxims and proverbs2) the science and learning3) the act of interpreting dreams and always giving the sagest advice4) the intelligence evinced in discovering the meaning of some mysterious number or vision5) skill in the management of affairs6) devout and proper prudence in intercourse with men not disciples of Christ, skill and discretion in imparting Christian truth7) the knowledge and practice of the requisites for godly and upright living

supreme intelligence, such as belongs to GodPaul often taught on three levels at one time that is to the Babe, the intermediate and the very learned in the Word.So wisdom could be living an upright life to the Babe, And a very gifted teacher to the learned. Anyone that has studied scripture for a time will tell you that the more you study the stronger your faith and understaning will grow .you may have experienced this yourself the first time you open the book you say, what? I didnt understand that scripture at all after some time the more you learn the more you understand this is wisdom from God. this word Sophia is from the Root word Sophos meaning1) wisea) skilled, expert: of artificers

wise, skilled in letters, cultivated, learned1) of the Greek philosophers and orators2) of Jewish theologians3) of Christian teachersc) forming the best plans and using the best means for their execution

How does the word of wisdom differ from the wisdom in James? One is for all, and the other is not. Word is logos could mean a word given by a living voice. The word of wisdom is the manifestation of the gift( Holy Spirit).I see these two different. Both are from God but one is supernatural. Someone can have general wisdom without salvation.

The most important thing of all. Wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord

The WORD of wisdom is different than general wisdom. How do you explain James 1:5 and 1 Corinthians 12:8. One is given to all that ask and the other is given as the Spirit wills?

I have learned that all the gifts were active in the old testament except the gift of tongues and the interpretation. Lets look at some of these examples. Noah received a word of wisdom about the future judgement on the world and he was given a word of wisdom about the ark. This was given to warn and to save a number of others in the Old Testament times. Gen. 6;13-18 Can you think of others in the old testament? This will give us a little bit of understanding of how this gift works.(word of wisdom)

Joseph is another example of the Word of wisdom being used in the Old Testament. He spoke the Joseph in a dream. Word of Wisdom can be manifested in many ways-Voice of the Holy Spirit, dreams, visions, angels, tongues and interpretation, or prophecy.

Exd 35:35 Them hath he filled with wisdom of heart, to work all manner of work, of the engraver, and of the cunning workman, and of the embroiderer, in blue, and in purple, in scarlet, and in fine linen, and of the weaver, [even] of them that do any work, and of those that devise cunning work.

Hi allI think wisdom is simply being able to get whatever you will done. Thus there are many types of wisdom. For instance, the wisdom of this world.Folks who want to make money, are very good at doing so. They are wise in this area. They will move heaven and earth to get their latest scheme off the ground.Christ commended the wisdom of the world and wished that Christians would apply the same thought and diligence to their spiritual walk.Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

True everything comes from God even the breath we breathe. But the gifts in 1 Corinthians are given to the church. They are alot like the gifts used in the Old testament.

I would like to discuss the difference in the gift of wisdom and gift of knowledge.I was taught that the word of knowledge is facts in the mind of God concerning people, places, or things in the past or present.Word of Wisdom concerns the divine purpose and plan in the mind and will of God.The difference it that the revelation with the word of knowledge brings is always present tense, or something in the past. Where Wisdom speaks of the future. These two can work together. In Acts 9:10-16 we see them working together. Wisdom revealed to Ananias the plan and purpose of God while the knowledge revealed exact facts as where to go, name of the street, house, and the person. The Lord even told Ananias that Saul was praying. He gave Ananias futher revelation about Paul in vs. 16.The word of wisdom and knowledge can be manifested by the Spirit speaking to you, dreams, vision, angels, tongues and interpretation, or prophecy.Philips in Acts 8:26-29 came through an angel.

The gifts seem to be described as three gifts say something-Prophecy, tongues, interpretation of tongues; three do something faith, miracles, healings; three reveal something, wisdom, knowledge, discerning of spirits.

Wisdom is the proper application of knowledge. ll Tim. 2:15- Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that doesn't need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, "He is THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS"; and again, "THE LORD KNOWS THE REASONINGS of the wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS."1 Corinthians 1:18-31 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD."

Carnal men may sometimes have earthly wisdom, but it is of little use in an eternal sense if this world is passing away. For example, lots of unregenerate men have written some good proverbs and can give wise advice as far as life in this world goes. On the other hand, God's wisdom is foolishness to such men even though it is the only wisdom that could ultimately have saved them, so really they are just fools.SealedEternal

Agreed sealedEternal I believe knowledge to be any/all knowledge of the world wether it be from a school to a church today knowledge is everywhere and we were told knowledge would increase knowledge however without Wisdom is empty And ALL Wisdom comes from God.Another words one can read the words of the Bible and/or memorize scripture but without the Wisdom of God to understand its meaning what good is the knowledgeone can read of repentance for example but if one doesnt have the wisdom to understand that it must be real and come from ones heart, repntance does them no good because its our heart God is concern with not the empty words that might come from ones mouth. We see this knowledge everywhere today in our government, our schools, our churches every where we look there is knowledge but Only from God can we gain the Wisdomto put the knowledge into perspectiveWe see "In God we trust" written on our dollars everyone knows this (has the knowledge it is written there) but how many have the wisdom today to realize what that impliesthat it is those very words that allowed us to become a great NationThe wisdom is knowing all that is behind those words that makes us great. The things that Gods Word taught us charity, compassion, love of the friend and enemy this is the wisdom behind the words__________________
