I just want to know, cause it'll lead to another question, if this doesn't seem like a worthy topic then the Mods can delete it. Better yet, how many here sometimes catch a curse word slipping of the tip of their tongue? How many here cuss, but not very often? I'm not here to judge, It's just leading to another thing I have to say or ask.

" "Arkansas' Voice on the Internet" Previous Features / Investigations 47° in Little Rock Huckabee: U.S. gave up on religionSchool shootings were wake-up call, he saysLINDA S. CAILLOUETARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTESALT LAKE CITY -- Government may have dropped the ball in modern American society, but religion dropped it first, Gov. Mike Huckabee told Southern Baptist pastors Sunday night. "The reason we have so much government is because we have so much broken humanity," he said. "And the reason we have so much broken humanity is because sin reigns in the hearts and lives of human beings instead of the Savior." Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, addressed his contemporaries at the two-day Pastors' Conference, which continues today. The three-day Southern Baptist Convention begins Tuesday here in the heartland of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the city in which the Mormons have their world headquarters. Huckabee told the pastors gathered in the Salt Palace Convention Center that while the March 1, 1997, tornadoes which struck Arkansas were tragic, at least the devastation could be clearly seen from a helicopter. In contrast, he said, the catalysts for the nation's recent school shootings -- including the one March 24 near Jonesboro that left four students and a teacher dead and 10 others wounded -- were harder to see but were driven by "the winds of spiritual change in a nation that has forgotten its God." "Government knows it does not have the answer, but it's arrogant and acts as though it does," Huckabee said. "Church does have the answer but will cowardly deny that it does and wonder when the world will be changed." The shootings were just one more wake-up call to the nation, he said. "I fear we will turn and hit the snooze button one more time and lose this great republic of ours." Huckabee said ungiving individuals are responsible for higher taxes. "I'm often asked why taxes are so high and government is so big. It's because the faith we have in local churches has become so small. If we'd been doing what we should have -- giving a dime from every dollar to help the widows, the orphans and the poor -- we now wouldn't be giving nearly 50 cents of every dollar to a government that's doing ... what we should have been doing all along." Huckabee also explained why he left pastoring for politics. "I didn't get into politics because I thought government had a better answer. I got into politics because I knew government didn't have the real answers, that the real answers lie in accepting Jesus Christ into our lives." He compared his entry into politics to "getting inside the dragon's belly," adding, "There's not one thing we can do in those marbled halls and domed capitols that can equal what's done when Jesus touches the lives of a sinner." The most basic unit of government is not the city council, quorum court or state legislature, Huckabee said. "It is Mom and Dad raising kids and teaching them respect for authority, others and God." The nation has descended gradually into crisis, Huckabee said, and repairing the damage needs to be gradual, too. He said the solution is simple: faith in Christ. Huckabee recalled the five occasions he's had to sit by the phone on the eve of an execution. "It's the greatest sense of helplessness and despair you can imagine to know we've exhausted all help and hope here on earth for that person." He also spoke of his early misconceptions of his duties as a pastor. "In one of the first churches I was assigned to, I thought I was supposed to be the captain of a warship leading the congregation into a battle against spiritual darkness," he said. "But they wanted the captain of the Love Boat. They just wanted everybody to be happy. It was not about how many people were won to Christ or how many teens were pulled away from drugs or how many marriages were saved. Instead, it was about the seniors having a great trip going to watch the fall leaves change, the teen-agers going to a better summer camp than the church across town." Huckabee concluded his speech by recalling his 10th birthday, when he accepted Christ. "I went to Vacation Bible School for all the wrong reasons -- I was told they'd give me all the cookies I could eat and all the Kool-Aid I could drink. But that day I got something better than cookies and Kool-Aid. I got the Savior. "I hope we answer the alarm clock and take this nation back for Christ." Before Huckabee spoke, more than 350 copies of his new book, Kids Who Kill: Confronting our Culture of Violence, had been placed in reporters' press boxes in the convention center press room. The slick cover of the book is a grim one -- a black-and-white, blurry photograph of a young boy pointing a gun at the reader. The most prominent part of the photograph is the round barrel of the gun. At the top of the book, this question is posed: "Are we reaping what we've sown?" The book was co-written by Dr. George Grant, director of the King's Meadow Study Center and a contributor to World magazine. The back cover states: "No more hand-wringing, no more finger-pointing. No more sound bites." It also makes a reference to the Jonesboro school shootings. Huckabee has recently been criticized by opponents claiming he has capitalized on the shootings with the publication of his book. The back cover states: "Just after lunch on March 24, 1998, four school children and a teacher were murdered by two students, ages thirteen and eleven, at an Arkansas middle school. Governor Mike Huckabee was informed of the tragedy en route from Washington, D.C. By the time he arrived, the news media were already waiting -- already polling the pundits and drawing conclusions based on the sketchiest information. The quest for quick answers has robbed us of the truth. Until now." The paperback is published by Broadman & Holman, a Nashville, Tenn., arm of the Baptist Sunday School Board. It retails for $11.99. Publicists for the book said last week they didn't expect it to arrive at the convention until today. Huckabee and his wife, Janet, left Salt Lake City immediately after his speech, and the governor did not hold a book signing at the convention. In fact, Huckabee didn't know the books had made it to the convention, said editors of the biweekly Arkansas Baptist Newsmagazine who visited with the governor shortly before his speech. Huckabee, governor since 1996, is a former president of the Arkansas Baptist Convention. He has authored one other book, Character is the Issue: How People with Integrity Can Revolutionize America, which was first publicly announced at the 1997 Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas a year ago and released last September. Other books given to reporters at the convention Sunday included a how-to boycott book aimed at the Walt Disney Co. by Richard D. Land titled Sending a Message to Mickey: The ABC's of Making Your Voice Heard at Disney. The back cover features an outline of the famous mouse's round ears and the words: "He who has ears, let him hear." The other book was Mormonism Unmasked by R. Philip Roberts, who examines the beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I curse and cuss a lot. I'm actually generally vulgar in speech. I can restrain it when I know it offends people. I'm not advocating it's use but at the same time, I'm not condemning myself for it. I grew up in a home where cussing was occasional and in fact is sometimes viewed as humourous and appropriate. Also, I went to public highschool, college & university. Cussing is more language for me than "innappropriate speech"Again, I don't condone the activity or habit of swearing. But it's the least thing I have to worry about in my christianity. I'm more concerned with how I deal with Lust, Money, Helping the poor, and preaching the gospels. Let's not forget that many people don't get understand if you don't cuss. From my background, many people swear and they understand things if spoken to in that language. It's almost a dialect. (Like I mentioned in another thread, I frequently drop F-Bombs A-words, and S-poops)

No problems, like I said. I'm more likely to let that out around people who speak that "dialect"

Yea, swearing is NOT a good thing. I did it sometimes in my old life...but you won't find me swearing in this form of state.I actually like to take a couple of scriptures literally like I Corinthians 15:33 and Ephesians 4:29... to keep me away from swearing... It does actually help to me...I know those verses do not really mean that. It means let no false teaching corrupt you...so stay in His Word.JagLovest ye in Christ Yahshua, Lord and Saviour of the world.

I know that one's boast in the flesh as in being his religion makes it worthless.James 1: 25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. 26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. 27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.Do note the exhortation in verse 27 as not having anything to do with bridling the tongue. Thus the attention as we lean on the Lord to bridle our tongue. Just as it is with bring every thought into captivity.. it is an ongoing thing.2 Corinthians 10: 4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 7Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. 8For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed: 9That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters. 10For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 11Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 12For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 13But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 14For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 15Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 16To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 17But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. 18For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.Psalm 39: 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.I trust Jesus to do His work in me.John 6: 28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.I made a covenant with my mouth not to cuss any more in 1994. But the very day after, I was worse than I ever was before. So I asked the Lord why He wasn't helping me and He answered. "You made the covenant. You said you were going to do it. I made the Covenant, and I said I am going to do it. All I ask from you is to believe on Me." Thus by the grace of God, go I. I thank Him that I do not cuss as much as I used to as I thank Him for the times when I do not cuss at all... like when I get hurt. Not always.. not boasting in my flesh, but boasting of the grace of God working in me as I trust Him that I shall not do so any more as He helps me to bring every thought into captivity as well.It is when someone cusses that is not bothered by it and continues, one may need to pray for that wayward brother or sister, for whom the Father loves, He chastens, but that doesn't make him less than us or we better than him or her. It just means they need correction and our prayers. It is the religion of the man as in his boasts of what he does in being good that becomes worthless... like the covenant with my mouth not to cuss as the Lord has delivered me from it to rest in His Covenant to me in Jesus.

Ever since GOD and NOT ME, changed my life around, I have that conviction not to cuss. I used to be a foul mouth, because of my past and stuff. I don't say the F, Sh**, or B word, sometimes when I get really frustrated sadly enough IT SLIPS, but that's the anger. I can control now, but I'm still in a controlling process. I need to quit the following, I need to stop saying Foo(Fool) because you know what the bible says about us saying fool out of Anger or even in a Joking Matter. Matthew 5:22

Unorthodox Christian, you are reading the scripture wrong. If you read the gospel long enough. Yahshua, said fool numerous times. And He has a reason, because He knew their thoughts. If He isn't allowed to say fool at all...then He broke His own word. But I can't believe that. It's without a cause that you are missing from this scripture.JagLovest ye in Christ Yahshua, Lord and Saviour.

Jag, what makes you think I'm missing the Point? I still have a street slang tone when I speak to old associates or friends of mine. Cause I grew up in the Ghetto of this Town. I shouldn't even be saying Foo, or Fool when addressing a Person. I understand the Context of Matthew 5:22 anger without a cause and calling someone a Raca or Fool out of Anger, but I'm saying that I shouldn't be saying foo or fool. No matter what unless it's necessary. Why should I GO up to someone and say wassup foo?! It's not really necessary, thank God the Lord Corrected my grammar and syntax LOL

Even as an unbeliever I never found profanity to be all that necessary and only needed by people with limited vocabularies, and at the age of 16 I gave it up entirely when my vocabulary reached the point where I saw no need for it. I was also turning it om and off depending on who i was around. I haven't used even one word of profanity since--unless you count the British word "bloody." I saw a plaque once that read, "Profanity is the effort of a feeble mind trying to express itself forcefully." I liked that and memorized it. It says exactly how I feel about the use of profanity--especially by those claiming the name of Jesus Christ and calling themselves Christians. If we are to claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, we must speak with a new tongue and not the same one that the world uses. If unbelievers can't see any difference in us, why would they desire a Saviour Who (in their mind) apparently makes no difference in a person's life?
