I was quite fond of the teaching of the late James Montgomery Boice who was a one time pastor of the 10th Presbyterian church of Philadelphia, PA.
Dr. Boice was not only a doctrinally sound preacher and a fine scholar, but actually a well trained thinker as well (I've listened to more than a few popular radio preachers who seem almost incapable of logical thought or sound argument.) His sermons are still available through the alliance of confessing evangelicals as well as some second hand sites and well worth the time it takes to listen to them, as I sometimes do when the current radio preaching has devolved to pleas such as "bring in the tithes to the storehouse" and "help our ministry reach the world for Jesus."
I also think very highly of Alistair Begg and for the same reasons, who is currently a Pastor of Parkside Church of Cleveland Oh, and the teacher of the radio show "truth for life." His ministry makes sermon downloads available for free and while the man may not consider himself a scholar, and is a bit inclined to lean on reminiscence for biblical illustration, I find his preaching to be honest, spirit filled, encouraging and yet realistic in light of the times that we live in.
