I went to a Catholic School for several years in my youth, but never paid much attention.I started reading the Bible recently, and I was wondering: before Jesus was crucified, did people go to Heaven?I figure that this is an easy one for you guys

vyger - above answer is correct, and those that were faithful, from Abel to Zechariah will enter into the Kingdom of God, but what about you?Do you know what you need to believe/do?

I was just wondering, because I was reading about Enoch. It says in Gen 5:23-24And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.I took that to mean that Enoch went to Heaven.I could just be completely misinterpreting that, though.

And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.
He didn't experience natural death, he just fell asleep, awaiting the resurrection. What about you (see post #3)

God will destroy the old heaven and create a new one."At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, 'Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.'"(Hebrews 12:26)"You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands;they will perish, but you remain;they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up,like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end."(Hebrews 1:10-12)"For behold, I create new heavensand a new earth, and the former things shall not be rememberedor come into mind. But be glad and rejoice foreverin that which I create;for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy,and her people to be a gladness."(Isaiah 65:17-18)"And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' Also he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'"(Revelation 21:5)http://christiansite.multiply.com/

Its just like Mighty Bear said. Nobody has gone to heaven except for Jesus but all have have faith and are saved by Jesus Christ, we WILL go to heaven because God will bring heaven down to earth.

There are two states of heaven, the physical and the spiritual. What our Lord was referring to when He said "No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man", He was referring to the spiritual heaven, because the physical heaven is not yet existing."But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh."(Galatians 5:16)"And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."(Galatians 5:24)

Our Lord was already in heaven even before He was crucified."And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one." (John 17:11)

"Thus it is written, 'The first man Adam became a living being'; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit."1 Corinthians 15:45 (ESV)"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known."1 Corinthians 13:12 (ESV)"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."Genesis 1:1 (ESV)"For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind."Isaiah 65:17 (ESV)

Matthew 22:32I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.Lord Jesus Christ told us about the rich man and the poor man story (In the past tense). After they both died the rich man went to hell, and Lazarus went to heaven to stay by Abraham's side.Which means Abraham and Lazarus (who was mentioned in His story) definitely went to heaven. So if we see the story of Lazarus as an example. Then we may conclude that yes, there are definitely people who went to Heaven before the Lord came down from Heaven. And Moses and Isaiah who came down from heaven to speak with Lord Jesus Christ definitely went to heaven, or else they cannot come down from heaven.

I agree lastsecman, but in the bible there are three heavens."But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."Galatians 5:22-24 (ESV)

If you read the beginning of Genesis the three "heavens" are: first the sky where the birds fly , second outer space where the sun and stars are, and third the place where God dwells.SealedEternal

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were createdthrough him and for him." Colossians 1:15-16 (ESV)"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12 (ESV)"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."Philippians 2:9-11 (ESV)"And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, that there would be no more delay, but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets."Revelation 10:5-7 (ESV)

Hi, The Old Testament saints went into the underground place called "Paradice" and the sinners went into hell, After the ressurection of Jesus all the old testament saints went to heaven as well as the new testament saints.

Water symbolizes formlessness or spirit, the clouds and the sea, these are twospiritual worlds or heavens. The third heaven is the earth, the dwelling placeof God, the temple of the Holy Spirit which is our bodies."For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,"Colossians 1:19 (ESV)"For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree."1 John 5:7-8 (ESV)"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,"1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)"Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."Matthew 16:28 (ESV)"Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed."1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (ESV)

Spirits are all around us, they are neither above nor belowwhen speaking of position. The term "heaven" means, a joyfulor peaceful existence."And he called out with a mighty voice,'Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons,a haunt for every unclean spirit,a haunt for every unclean bird,a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast.'"Revelation 18:2 (ESV)

"It has been testified somewhere,'What is man, that you are mindful of him,or the son of man, that you care for him?You made him for a little while lower than the angels;you have crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet.'"Hebrews 2:6-8 (ESV)"In saying, 'He ascended,' what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower regions, the earth? He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things."Ephesians 4:9-10 (ESV)"The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good."Proverbs 15:3 (ESV)"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)

The first heaven is the level of the archangels, where birds fly.The second heaven is where our Lord Jesus and our heavenly Father dwell, that's why our Lord Jesus existed even before the world was created. The third heaven is on earth, the temple of the Holy Spirit which is our bodies. And they all co-exist together.
