I was wondering if anyone could clarify this scripture for me.Hebrews 4:7 7Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."[a]I'm curious about the use of the word Today. It says "God again set a certain day, calling it Today". What is the significance of God setting a certain day and then using such a plain word as Today unless this word Today is different from our everyday language use of the word today? Also why is it capitalized?Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I think it has to do with reference to the sabbath. Its not about a day of worship its about having faith today and have His rest. Its used a lot to prove it does not matter what day we worship. Jesus fufilled the sabbath. Kriss is good at explaing it more inn detail.

Hebrews 4:7 "Again, He limiteth a certain day, saying in David, "To day," after so long a time; as it is said, "to day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts."This is saying that there is a time when a person has waited just one day to long. And if you are waiting for that certain day to make up your mind, Paul is saying that this day will not come. There is a limit to how long God will wait on a person, and then He will just leave them along. This verse comes from Psalm 95:7, 8.Psalm 95:7 "For he is our God; And we are the People of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. To day if ye will hear His voice,"Psalm 95:8 "Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:"There is a day coming when it will be to late, and the result of delay then will be a quick walk into the fire. That day is the close of the Millennium age. However there will also be a time when the Spirit of God will leave you alone and not disturb your conscience. He will allow you to go on sinning with a clear conscience, and at that time it has been one day to late. When the Spirit of God is beckoning to you, you had better not put Him off. Only a fool will wait and continue to enjoy the things of the world and turn their back on God's offer to them of eternal life. Any pleasure you may get from that roller coaster ride of this world will be very short lived.I have met many like this who always say I'll think about it tomarrow I to busy or having to much fun.

Thank you, Kriss! It makes much more sense to me now. I'm just glad God didn't give up on me yet!

He never gives up on those who truly care even if you fall short but remember God know our hearts so he knows when one truly has given up on him

So God only gives up on those who have given up on Him first? Or are there people He gives up on even though they haven't really given up on God yet?I haven't given up on God, I am seeking the Truth more now than I ever did when I attended church for the first 25 years of my life.I only asked for information...not that I'm planning to give up on God.

Eph. 1:4-6 highlites. He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. According to the good pleasure of His will. He made us accepted in the Beloved. Us is of course is His children. Chosen before there was anything. Jh. 6:44 says that no one comes unless the Father draws him. He's not waiting for someone to ask that another come to Him so He can make a decsion, doesn't leave that to children in various stages of growth, much to important to leave to the church world such as it is. Not a one of us does He ever give up on. Anybody who gives up on Him never new Him in the first place! To taste and see that the Lord is good is enough to carry you through. btw-

He never gives up hope one will seek him he just will stop calling a point in time to those whom are set against him. But until a certain point in time, at the end, anyone can change their mind/heart and turn to him and he will be there

"Today" is referring to "Now.God can only be approached (or His voice Heard) in the "Now" dimension.God's abode is in the timeless "Now"."Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1

Yes God is eternal. However it doesn't the fact that God made His Time of 1 Day = 1000 human years. So we humans can understand His plan from the beginning to the end... If one does not understand the beginning, how are they to understand the end?II Peter 3:8 - But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
