To "prepare for His Coming" you must be a disciple of Christ. How? repent of your sins, be "buried WITH Him" (baptism) and raised to walk in newness of life (born again) Romans 6:3,4. At this time of being "born again" you change fathers from Adam to the Father in heaven.
When you see "the last days" in the New Testament, most likely, if you look at the context, it is referring to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. Jesus told the Jewish nation in Matthew 24 that the temple and Jerusalem would be destroyed. This prophecy was fulfilled about 40 years later when General Titus destroyed the Temple and Jerusalem. Over 1,100,000 Jews were destroyed plus their genealogies. God destroyed them and their priesthood. Today, no Jew can tell you from what tribe they are from due to the destruction of their genealogy records.
All the books of the New Testament were written before 70 A.D. (even the Book of Revelation). The apostle writers knew this destruction was coming and the end of that age (O.T. age) and a new age (N.T. age) was approaching. Many times, in their writing they used the term "the last days, the last hour" in reference to the coming destruction of the Jewish economy and the end of the Old Testament. They knew the time was NEAR. THIS IS "NOT" TALKING ABOUT OUR DAYS (2100 YEARS LATER!).
The Book of Revelation is nothing more than an expansion of Matthew 24 showing in detail of the destruction of Jerusalem. Revelation starts with verse 1 telling us "...that these things MUST TAKE PLACE SHORTLY" and in verse 3 "...THE TIME IS NEAR!" Go to the last chapter of Revelation 22:6 and you see John repeating "...THESE THINGS MUST TAKE PLACE SHORTLY' AND in verse 10, "...don't seal up the words of this prophecy FOR THE TIME IS NEAR."
