Leviticus 19:28 "Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord"

Indeed

Right after:

Leviticus 19:27 “‘Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

And before:

Leviticus 19:19 “‘Keep my decrees. Do not mate different kinds of animals. Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed. Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material."

Guess we are all screwed......

Or, perhaps they may only apply to the Israelites for the purpose of continuing their culture rather than taking on pagan practices ........hmm

Israel was under this law to do and obey it. We are not under this law in that obedience to it is not how God is pleased. In our walk in the Spirit, the law becomes obeyed as a result of walking in the Spirit, not by trying to keep the Law. But we know the mind of God concerning these things. And getting a tattoo is never a product of God's Spirit. Go ahead and get a tattoo, just don't say the Holy Spirit led you to it.

you mean what teh bible says. Do you wear a covering over your head in church, ?? you should teh bible says you should,,,

1Co 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Co 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.

see more rules,

do you stone adulters for comitting adultry according to teh bible we should,

Act 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

Act 15:28 For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

now how many rules did the pharisees extract from the 10 commandments,

613
The tradition that 613 commandments (Hebrew: תרי"ג מצוות‎, taryag mitzvot, "613 mitzvot") is the number of mitzvot in the Torah, began in the 3rd century CE, when Rabbi Simlai mentioned it in a sermon that is recorded in Talmud Makkot 23b.

lest see how many you can come up with from

Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
I'd like to inform you that the 613 rules contained
civil and
ceremonial laws.
and moral laws.

THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LAW.

Jesus abolished the civil and ceremonial laws.
He DID NOT ABOLISH MORAL LAW.

I go by what Jesus said. NOT by what Paul said.
I don't cover my head because it is NOT A MORAL ISSUE.

YOU are very mixed up and should stick to what scripture says.
WHEN there is any conflict at all, we refer to JESUS not to PAUL.

BTW,
Why don't you study what 1 Corinthians 11:5 is all about.
It's NOT about how women should cover their heads in Church or how men should take their hats off. It has to do with marriage and Christ.

You are supposed to Love, it fulfills all the requirements of the law. Again teh laws was not given to us gentiles,

Rom 2:12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
Rom 2:13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another

so for you to decide, is it by the law you live and be judged or is grace your defense.

So are you teh righteousness of Christ or one of these...

1Ti_1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
The two great commandments of Christ cover all the commandments.
If we do those two, we will or will not break the decalogue.
Mathew 24:37-39

Fine. But is this ALL Jesus said in 3 1/2 years of His ministry?
Seems to me He might have said a bit more. For intance, HOW to love:

Could we start with the beatitudes...
Mathew 5 to 7

Maybe we could add
Mathew 25

What about all the parables He taught?
Maybe they had a meaning?

Paul had a lot to say about our behavior too:
1 Corinthians 5:9-13
Galatians 5:17-22
Ephesians 5:1-14

And so much more...

Depends. For me, my tattoos remind me of my relationship with God and Neighbor and my continual responsibility to practice my sanctification. I wear a ring that serves the same purpose. I believe my soul (body, spirit, Christ within me) is an instrument for service and worship so whatever help to keep it in tune is good and loving.
You said they were hidden.
People are getting them all over their bodies.
Are we aware that it's becoming a life-style that goes against everything that is good.
Are we aware that it's people that want to be different and defiant and not in a good way?

The tatoo itself doesn not look nice on a person.
However, the reason behind it is also very important.
If God says our body is a temple, we should treat it as such.

I'm not saying what mjhealth is saying. I don't consider his posts to be of a very serious nature.

God sees the heart. Good.
Do you suppose these persons I see with black all over them know God?
I doubt it.
They are totally immersed in the world.
Christians are told that they are IN the world, but not a PART of it.

Otherwise, where would it end?

Dont and you will never find me in one because we are His church,

Isa 66:1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
Isa 66:2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Mar_14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

Act 7:47 But Solomon built him an house.
Act 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,
Act 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
Act 7:50 Hath not my hand made all these things?
Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
I see.

You stay at home and study all by yourself.

How do you know you have the truth?
I can guarantee you that from what I've read so far,
you should find yourself a good Church and start going there.

That is my humble opinion.

Aspen,
It's not nice to use scripture in this way.

Cutting the body or marking it is making an effect on the temple which is us.
Planting or cutting hair does not destroy the temple.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

I agree, but those people have tattoos that reflect their spiritual state. We may judge the tattoos, but they are sort of like mold infestation stemming from a leaky roof - the leaky roof is the real issue

Oh.
I agree.
We preach Christ and not the "evil" of tatoos!

It's just that this is the thread...

You used scripture in a very intellectually dishonest way.

You quoted what came before and after Leviticus 20.
THAT had nothing to do with our BODY, the temple.
It had to do with other matters.
You were trying to say that since I listen to Leviticus 20, I should also listen to and follow what came before and after.

In this case, this was not true and was not to the point.
That's what I meant.
I believe you're referring to that.

I've noticed that some posters don't like to talk much.
I may not belong here!!! I love to talk.

And many are just ridiculed. As i have said before, if it was up to man, no one would be saved, everything is a sin, even breathing, as you breath in polluted air and it contaminates your body which is a temple.. Jeess, Good thing we have grace,...

This should be the Point, as Believers we should try to consider what God & Savior would think, and that is the tuff part! We within ourselves will and have made decisions that we are willing to live with, and think are exceptable ! I live in the Desert, and while in the desert we have a saying, Everything will come out in the wash, if you get my drift. As for know we see through a glass dimly, but when He returns we will see clearly! All judgment belongs to our Savior!

That certainly seems to apply to a few on the forum, Much is the pity !

It seems that all people will at one time or another, Compromise, as for me and my House we will serve the Lord. Compromise is to me like a white flag. We are to surrender all to Our Lord and Savior, not give in to the World!
