"The Wall Street Journal reports that Microsoft's Chairman Bill Gates is going to call for a revision of capitalism. He will argue that the economics that drive much of the world should use market forces to address the needs of poor countries, which he feels are currently being ignored. 'We have to find a way to make the aspects of capitalism that serve wealthier people serve poorer people as well,' Mr. Gates will say in a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. 'Key to Mr. Gates's plan will be for businesses to dedicate their top people to poor issues — an approach he feels is more powerful than traditional corporate donations and volunteer work. Governments should set policies and disburse funds to create financial incentives for businesses to improve the lives of the poor, he plans to say. Mr. Gates's argument for the potential profitability of serving the poor is certain to raise skepticism, and some people may point out that poverty became a priority for Mr. Gates only after he'd earned billions building up Microsoft. But Mr. Gates is emphatic that he's not calling for a fundamental change in how capitalism works.'"

I think Mr. Bill Gates should revise Vista, first. Then the computers will work well enough to revise capitalism.

Private charity is a wonderful thing. However, it's very easy for someone with his money to sit there and say what he does. I think these people lose sense of reality once they reach this level. Business is business and it has never fully been about helping the people and never will be. That's not to say there are good people out there that use it in that manner. However, the primary focus of business is money. There's not enough profit to be made in what he's calling for.

Who is Bill Gates to call for such a thing? Just because he's rich? Shut-up Bill, no one is interested in what you have to say. Get back to what you know and fix Windows Vista.

Herein lies the crux of the matter. Now that Bill has made his billions he is calling for others to act according a different ethic, one that he did not live by. Sounds hypocritical to me.Does he propose to bring Microsoft, the company that he helped found, live by a new ethic? If so, how does he explain the continued lawsuits and anti-trust allegations of his competitors and the EU?Bill and Melinda are doing much good, but they are not the first wealthy capitalists turned philanthropists. Is there something that drives these people that is directly related to having the luxury to act without worrying about their own security? Would they still adopt this stance from the beginning if they could start over again?I don't know, but wonder.Blessings,Dunamite
