Guess you know as well the Catholic Church believe similar to this Luthern site on the matter. God knows who will here His call, and in that sense the saved are predestined. Not all Calvinist or Lutherans believe in double predestination, in fact probably few do today.

No one is elected to go to hell. There are the elect and there are those of free will. It is their choice to "go to hell" or not. I recently saw a post where it was written that "there are no victims in hell," they are all there of their own doing. They selected that outcome themselves.:naughty:His message is there for the world....will they listen? The elect were chosen because of what they did in the first age. They stood with God against Satan then and they will again in this age. They are servants of God. :angel9:11 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.......Whirlwind

What we are "predestinated" to is as it says in Romans 8:29: to be conformed to the image of God's Son. We are not predestinated to be saved or lost. Just as Adam and Eve had the free will to choose to eat the fruit or not, we have the free will to accept or reject Jesus Christ. God knows who will and will not accept Him, and He has predestinated us to be like Jesus--in what manner I'm not sure. However, I do know that we are to be joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. Romans 8:17It's true that no one comes to God unless the Holy Spirit draws them, but the offer has been made to everyone, "Whosoever will".

amen, I agree with you on that, Jon-MarcI didn't notice that it said we were predestined to be conformed to the image of God's Son. but, I don't understand, what does that mean? Here is my idea. God created man in His own image, but it was marred after the Fall. Part of that image was holiness and also immortality, I think. God warned them that on the day they would eat, they would "surely die". And they did. They died in their relationship with God and death entered them. So God's Word became human and made His dwelling among us, and He died for the sins of the world. If you accept Christ, not only are you saved, but you are in the process of being conformed to the image of God. But not everyone will accept Him.

Morning_Joy Some have been chosen before they were born to do certain things (jobs) for Godthe apostle Paul is a good example of this He was a Roman his job was to persecute christians but when God called him to do what he had been predestined to do he became a great apostle a warrior for God. There is group of christians called the Elect who stand against the Anti Christ at the end and not follow him. Many of these Elect are alive now but they dont know who they are. You could be oneSome of these Elect were predestined. others will become Elect in the End all that do not follow Antichrist and overcome are of the Elect. Now Calvinists and other simular doctrines will tell you that all have all ready been predestined to either be of the Elect or fail and go to hell. These doctrines are of men not God do not follow them In my opinion if it weren't for the fact these Calvinist type doctrines believe in Christ they would be the closest thing to anti Christ doctrine they defy the very essence of free will make Gods message some kind of senseless joke. Stay away from them.

I just don't believe that God would choose some to be saved and some to go to hell. Many times throughout the Bible, people have praised God so much
biggrin.gif
and these praises have to do with God's judgement and what He has done, and also His goodness, His mercy, and His love. When I started to seek God more, I have learned many awesome things about Him.

It's all just so amazing.

As I mentioned to you in one of our PM exchanges, the term elect implies an election. We only have to look at the familiar English would to realize that in order for someone to be elected, there has to be someone doing the electing. No man can put himself in the place of God as Judge and I have a serious problem with any doctrine that sets this up.

oh I seebut what about Pro. 16:4? Have people taken that out of context?
Proverbs 16:4 The Lord hath made all things for Himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. The "wicked" is Satan. God could have destroyed him after his rebellion but he allows him power to see who he will or will not deceive. In other words....he has a job to do and it culminates on the "day of evil." God created all souls but they decide whether to be wicked or not.....Whirlwind

While we all deserve hell and do NOT deserve heaven, God has provided a way for us to live forever with Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Still, could God be called a loving and just God if He only loved some of us and not the rest? Also, how could we ever be absolutely positive that we are among those chosen to be saved? I would go through my life in constant fear and doubt, knowing that I am unworthy of God's love, grace, and mercy. That's what "grace" means--undeserved.Also, those who believe that ALL are going to heaven are just as wrong as those who believe that there is a 50-50 chance that you will make it to heaven--a throw of the dice so to speak. I like the words, "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13. WHOSOEVER means ANYONE. It doesn't say "might" be saved, but SHALL be saved. "Shall" is just another word for "will". ANYONE who calls on the Lord and asks His forgiveness WILL be saved.

If God chose some for heaven and some for hell, That makes Him a respecter of people, and God said, "To have respect of people is sin" Those that believe in predestination to salvation don't know the heart beat of God, or His word. God chose a Body, and that body consists of every one who will believe.

Also, can you give me the Bible verse where God says that being a respecter of persons is a sin, please? I want to mark it down in my Bible notebook and remember it.
