he certainly existed in time when he made that statement.
But not 'now'.
and the word is for us
And we will not exist in time, either.

pointer..I seem to be detecting tones of redundant antagonism.. the Manifold Wisdom and Love of God gave our very ignorantly simple, and time restricted minds a way to gain a shadow of understanding into the works he performed for OUR benifit. The conclusion of the means to gain the free Gift..is still FAITH this reminds me of Jesus statement to Nicodemus.."if I speak to you of earthly things and you do not understand, how will you understand if I speak to you of heavenly things?" And I supose..that is why faith is the way to Christ, (faith has no fault)but our understanding sure does!!!

Then you can pray and get forgiveness.

But He was- He said so, and He had to be. There is Paul's comment, too, that He 'became sin' for us (2 Cor. 5:21) This is because He really did take the punishment for the sins of the whole world. This is amazing, but true, and needs to be grasped as far as mortals can understand it.
=================Christ was NOT forsaken by His Father, GOD. Who would believe in a God that would go back on His Word. Deuteronomy 4: 31 (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.Study Psalm 22 and you will see that Christ was teaching this Psalm while He was on the cross, from His first words to His last words, "It is finished."

That is God talking to mankind, not to Himself.

You have had three different people in this thread tell you exactly what it means Karin, N2thelight and me(kriss) because that is why he said it.Reread the three posts they all say the same thing because its the answer. Now it may have more personal meanings to some also,it may even have a deeper level of teaching I haven't discovered yet but for all intensive purposes the answer is As a fulfillment of prophesy by directing your attention to Psalm 22 written some 1000 years before Christ where it prophesied his Crucifixion. That is why he said it. It is the answer to the question "Is this King of the Jews" answer, yes the anointed of God, the prophesied one. King of all men THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
now a fourth person Tom has given you the answer what is there to argue about snaggs simply stated somthing about the emotoins people must have been feeling at the time and you turn it into a debate The question, subject of the thread is Why did Jesus say: it has been asked and answered HE WAS TEACHING THAT HE WAS THE FUFILLMENT OF PROPHECHY

Pointer, Go spew your trash somewhere else.
'Nothing from Jesus so well illustrates the depth of his suffering of soul as he felt himself regarded as sin though sinless (2 Cor 5:21). John 3:16 comes to our relief here as we see the Son of God bearing the sin of the world. This cry of desolation comes at the close of the three hours of darkness.' 'My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (Ps 22:1) The only utterance from the cross recorded by Matthew and Mark. The full import of this cry cannot be fathomed. But certainly its basis lay not in the physical suffering primarily, but in the fact that for a time Jesus was made sin for us (2 Cor 5:21); and in paying the penalty as the sinner's substitute, he was accursed of God (Gal 3:13).'
