yes, he lied. The best lies always contain elements of truth

Genesis 2:15-1715 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." God said that they must eat not the tree of knowledge. Here Satan said half lie that “they will not surely die”. Of course eternal death has come when they ate.Here Satan said half truth that “your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”Genesis 3:1111 And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" After eating the tree of knowledge, they were surely knowing good and evil. They knew they were naked. Here what Satan said was true.Genesis 3:21-22 22 And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. This evil spirit possessed girl speak the truth about Paul and his companions. She was not lying.John 8:4444 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.Satan is the father of lie.Jesus always said “I tell you the truth” He said ninety times.
When God said in Gen 2: 17, "You will surely die", He said, "In dying, you will die" In dying spiritualy Adam died physcicaly.The devil does use scripture to misleed people, and keep them or put them in bondage. That is how false religions start. The scripture he quotes is true, but he takes it out of context to misslead people.
