I should think that human nature will is at its worst in hell seeing as how
down there exists no purpose in being civil anymore.

Things like discord, hatred, factions, cliques, mistrust, prejudice, bias, caste
systems, double standards, partiality, favoritism, deceit, surmising,
dishonesty, gossip, slander, sarcasm, cynicism, ridicule, envy, rivalry,
resentment, avarice, greed, gossip, character assassination, fault-finding,
hen-pecking, kangaroo courts, complaining, tattling, meddling, hostile
confrontations, mood swings, quarrels, assertiveness, heated debates,
chafing, trickery, grudging, stonewalling, bitterness, silent treatments,

. . . revenge, stubbornness, cold shouldering, back stabbing, snobbery,
egotism, dominance, demeaning comments, pecking orders, rebellion,
arrogance, cheating, attitudes, subterfuge, treachery, betrayal, suspicion,
conceit, vanity, superiority complexes, depression, melancholy, panic
attacks, bi-polar disorders, antisocial behaviors, sociopaths, crime, war,
despotism, oppression, injustice, human rights abuses, character
assassination, toxic rejoinders, smart-Alek retorts, snide remarks, etc, etc,
et al and ad nausea, are no doubt the norm in a place where people have
carte blanche to pull out the stops and finally show their true colors for what
they really are.

Hell's environment is unbearable enough, but there's more to that place than
just dehydration and elevated temperatures. Hell's society no doubt makes
hell twice the hell it would be were there not so many unsavory people down
there adding to everyone's discomfort. I've watched a number of NetFlix
prison documentaries to know that hell is not the kind of place where
genteel folk do well.

Of all Christian doctrines, eternal torment gives me the most angst. I could say many things, and in the past I have. But the most obvious objections, and to which there is no answer outside of a severe twisting of truth, are twofold: Etc Etc ....<snip>

Amen! Totally agree with you! I'm glad that some of us can see the true heart of The Father. :)

This concept and idea is a total insult to God. As if He is going to tolerate throughout all eternity such sin and malignity against His holiness and laws. You need to repent of this nonsense and seek the Lord for truth instead of peddling this tripe and ugliness and foisting it upon a gullible church. Your copy paste style I met many years ago on another forum and you wouldn't engage then with my objections in dialogue, I see you aren't engaging here either. Just screeds of propaganda. You insult God. You insult His character, you insult His laws, you insult His kingdom, you insult His purposes for expunging all sin and sinners from the universe. To maintain a continuing place where God must actively participate to deliberately but unnaturally keep people alive that they can continue insulting Him in blasphemy and all manner of evil and wickedness is such a crock. Get over it and repent.

I once heard of a preacher asked by a young member of his congregation
what he would have to do that's so bad he'd go in hell.

The preacher answered: You don't have to do anything exceptionally bad to
go to hell; no, just bide your time and you'll wind up there without even
trying because hell is the default.

Yes, indeed! Consider also what Solomon wrote long before Jesus was born in Bethlehem:

"These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren." Prov 6:16-19

To God who never changes those things were abominable when Solomon wrote them and the are abominable to Him now. Why would He receive the repentance of a person and make that person dwell in a body which would continue to commit such abominations? People who say they have been saved but admit they will continue to sin because they have no other choice are calling Jesus a liar:
"And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible." Mark 10:26-27

Yet, such people who say they have been saved will often if not always deny that the God in them can overcome all of the ways leading to sin within and by the veil of flesh that houses them... at least not prior to the dirt being shoveled over their faces. What ia it that is impossible for God? And where is it that Jesus is?

"To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:" Col 1:27

Jesus did it in his own little lump of flesh but cannot do it in ours? Who is it that is calling Him a liar?

Give God the glory!

I hate the doctrine of eternal torment with a passion. It is a lie from Satan and it his most successful ploy for maligning the character of God. We as sinful corrupt human beings recognize tyrants when we meet them. We denigrate them, we condemn them, we criticise and condemn their motives, their practices, their murders and tortures, we would, if we could, consign them to the flames in person. And rightly so. But when we see teachings concerning eternal torment, that God is going to keep inherently mortal beings alive for all eternity for the sole purpose of satisfying a justice that can never be satisfied, tormenting them with the most excruciating pain and agony (note how webers_home exalts over how hot the sulphur burns etc) , and we praise God for His love, grace, mercy and justice? Seriously??? And we wonder why people become atheists and don't believe in our God? I don't believe in that God either. It is one of the greatest hoaxes ever to be foisted upon man or beast in all 6000 odd years of his existence.
And let this sink into your minds, hearts, and frontal lobes.
It is a direct, complete and utter contradiction to what the Bible says is the ultimate fate of the wicked, when it teaches that the "wages of sin is death". ...that "the soul that sinneth, it shall die"....and here's one that everyone knows off by heart, but which everyone denies when they teach the doctrine of eternal torment..."For God gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever should believe in Him, shall not PERISH, but have everlasting life".
Eternal torment turns one of the most fundamental pillars of the Christian faith into a lie. And at the same time turns the first ever sermon on the immortality of the soul into one of the most popular Christian doctrines. And that first sermon was preached by Satan when he said to Eve, "thou shalt not surely die!!

What makes Satan's word so believable and God's words so incredible?

Hey, Brakelite, is this what you believe: Eternal heaven for the believers and the unbelievers will be dead, just gone? (= no hell)
I suppose you don't believe in the rapture either?

Satan

It would not be to the Devil's advantage to frighten people; it's far more to
his advantage to soothe them into believing that death will be quick and
humane in the lake of brimstone depicted at Rev 20:10-15.

I believe what he says is correct re heaven.
Do your homework...I spent many months check all the Hebrew and Greek through scripture. I used to believe like you do.
Now I wonder how on earth I could have so easily believed what was taught to me about hell. I just believed it because they said so. Then I knew I had to check it for myself. I had to be persuaded for myself...so I did.

And, no , I do not believe in the "rapture"...it is only a few hundred years old..
The only rapture we Christians will experience will be the ecstasy of joining with our God. These bodies are not going to fly off anywhere into the atmosphere. I am amazed how ( again) people just buy into it.
Again...it takes time, and it takes patience and it takes studying.
You need to do all that for yourself, not just believe what someone told you that the bible 'says'.

Don't believe what I say...ask God and let Him show you...if you dare.

Bless you...Helen

Wonderful post once again.......I second what you said at the end.....Why oh why are people so resistant to this ? To push into Him, ask of Him, just like He said.....Bless you for passing on the truth.:)

I didn't suggest it was intended to frighten people. Nor do I believe that the second death of the wicked will be anything like "quick and humane"...although it seems to be somewhat of an anachronism to desire that God should be "humane". Jesus Himself said the punishment of the wicked "shall be according to their works". Some receiving many stripes, some not so many. But the end result is precisely what God promises from Eden to Revelation. Separation from Him, the only source of life, and eventual death. From which you said yourself, there is no resurrection. But death is death. It is not life, in any way, shape, or form. They are contrary to one another...precise and complete opposites.
The reason Satan created that hellish doctrine is to simply continue to do what he began in heaven. Malign the character of the Life-giver. He has succeeded. People don't disbelieve God because they fear Him, they disbelieve God because of the lies and slanders Christians preach about Him from their church's pulpits, and on forums such as this, and in posts such as yours.

There's been a quite a bit of flap in the media of late about a gender issue
called mysogyny-- defined by Webster's as hatred of women --while very
little flap about misandry; defined by Webster's as hatred of men.

In the end, it will be a man who casts angry women into the lake of
brimstone depicted at Rev 20:10-15 and permanently ruins any chances
they might have had for happiness in the future. For all eternity, condemned
man-haters will grind their teeth with hot tears and white-knuckled fury that
they ultimately lost out on everything because of one lone male's obsessive
control over their lives.

John 5:22-23 . .The Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment
to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father.

Acts 17:31 . . For God has set a day when he will judge the world with
justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone
by raising him from the dead.
