I have been talking to this guy and he keeps trying to point out bible contradictions in itself, anyway I need some help answering these. Here they are:"Joseph's (as in Jesus' dad) geneology is different in Matthew and Luke. The usual explanation is that one is Mary's line; this is blatently false. Both are very much indicated to be Joseph's line, and back then, lines of the mother were not kept (when Jesus fed the 5,000 it referred to 5,000 men...women and children were not counted then either). It was strictly patriarchal.Interesting self-contradiction:JESUS ON TRUTH OF HIS TESTIMONY (part 1) - John 5:31"If I testify about myself, my testimony is not valid."JESUS ON TRUTH OF HIS TESTIMONY (part 2) - John 8:14"Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid."JESUS ON TRUTH OF HIS TESTIMONY (part 3) - John 8:18 [So, which is it?]"I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me."Another un-explainable error:THE WORDS ON THE CROSS (part 1) - Matthew 27:37And set up over his head his accusation written, This Is Jesus The King Of The Jews.THE WORDS ON THE CROSS (part 2) - Mark 15:26And the superscription of his accusation was written over, The King Of The Jews.THE WORDS ON THE CROSS (part 3) - Luke 23:38And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, This Is The King Of The Jews.THE WORDS ON THE CROSS (part 4) - John 19:19And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of Nazareth The King Of The Jews."Any help yall can give in answering these would be greatley appreciated!

No explanation really necessary. God never contradicted himself period. If you go back and look at the Old Testament you will see the relevance in the scripture you posted. Problem is you cannot just look at single scripture without studying others to see how they correlate with one another. There simply is no contradiction, maybe word differences but no contradictions. Words changed from the Old to the New Testament so there maybe a contradiction in terms but not in scripture.

I know that, but these are the things they have posted. I was wandering if anyone knew of any scripture that would help, or if they saw a flaw obvious flaw in his statement that I could point out to them. Everyone that I am talking to, they are all very scientific and analitical thinkers. I want to help prove the bible to them.

Hello FOC....I can help with the first one.Matthew is the genealogy of Joseph, husband to Mary, step-father to Christ. This declares the legal claim to David (through the step-father).The genealogy given in Luke begins with:Luke 3:23 And Jesus Himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the Son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,"As was supposed" means "as reckoned by law." In other words....in-law. Joseph was the son-in-law to Heli. This geneological line is that of Heli the father of Mary. This is the blood line to David through David's son Nathan. Joseph (Jesus's step-father) was from David through Solomon.So...the line given in Matthew gives legal claim to David's throne but the blood line is through Mary (Heli's daughter). Through her Jesus was of Judah and Levi. ...Whirlwind

John 5:31 "If I bear witness of My self, My witness is not true."Jesus is saying that if I just came along and told you that I am the Son of God, you would not have accepted this, but there is another that has come and told you that I am the Son of God, and he is a witness to this fact. Jesus is talking of John the Baptist. John knew because God told him so at the baptism of Christ. Remember in Luke 3:22; "And the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, "Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased." John the Baptist was a personal witness to this fact.John 5:32 "There is another that beareth witness of Me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of Me is true."This again is John the Baptist, who came in the spirit of Elijah, Luke 1:17; "And He shall go before Him [Jesus] in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared John 8:14 "Jesus answered and said unto them, "Though I bear record of Myself, yet My record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go."Jesus can make this statement for a very good reason, the Scriptures declare it. These scribes and Pharisees could not see what was happening in the life of Christ, because their Spiritual eyes were not opened. The only thing that was obvious to them was what the could see with their physical eyes, and reason in their distorted minds.John 8:15 "Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man."You judge only what you can see of the outside of man. At this time of Jesus ministry, Jesus would not judge any man because He had not gone to the cross yet.John 8:18 "I am one that bear witness of Myself, and the Father That sent Me beareth witness of Me."This would be very easy to say, I am one witness, and the one that sent me is another. Any one that can talk could make that statement, but it was written in Scriptures every detail of Jesus life. His birth to even the time and place where He would be born, and all the details of His Ministry. It was the Father that bear witness, for it was the Father that gave the words for the Prophets to write down. This then is the double witness, the Father and the Son.Jesus witness of Himself as being the Son of the Living God through the miracles that He preformed. Everywhere He went the sick were healed, and even the dead came to life. These men standing before Jesus had witnessed some of these miracles and they knew that the miracles were not man, but of God.No man could take the five barley loaves of bread, and feed five thousand men with it. It just can't happen, but it did and many of these men witnessed it. They knew, but Satan so blinded their minds that they just could not accept the witness.John 8:19 "Then said they unto Him, "Where is Thy Father?" Jesus answered, "Ye neither know Me, nor My Father: if ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also."These men had the writings of the prophets but did not understand them, nor could they apply the meanings.King of the Jews was a Mockey, an insult if you remember the Jews did not accept Christ as their KingMatthew 27:37 "And set up over His head His accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS."With this sign over Jesus head, though it be in mockery, the Kenite chief priest came by latter in anger and reminded Pilate that he told them not to write it.John 19:19-21; "And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS." [19] "This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin." [20] "Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, "Write not, 'The King of the Jews;' but that He said that I am the King of the Jews" [21]

If these folks are contradicting the Bible then why are they reading it. Sola Scriptura which means "scripture interprets scripture" the Bible as God's written word is self-authenticating, clear (perspicuous) to the rational reader, its own interpreter.

Sometimes different words are said to provide different perspectives to people. And sometimes the general theme is agreed upon is enough. Because we have to look into the meaning, not into the word differences.
