The problem is sin that could result in sickness. If one drives a car recklessly and always coasts thru stop signs, goes a little faster than what it safe, cuts others off, and so forth (sins), then the result is oftentimes an accident (sickness). One who has too many accidents has to ask what they are probably doing all wrong? So mom is sick with the kids for the holidays…. Again! And these are otherwise healthy people who blend in with society very well, have no outstanding medical problems otherwise; just seemingly normal. To top it off, the “experts” warn about getting the flu shot and constantly washing one’s hands and other advice that seems to make no difference whatsoever despite citing their selling-point statistics. They done that, too, and are sicker than the rest who have not done all that.

Several things I see:

  1. As the saying goes, what would Jesus do? Here’s busy mom rushing to make the holiday meals, and just before then ran the kids off to the school holiday party. Jesus just sits on his behind on the sofa telling the Kingdom of God stories while dad sits there with him. Mom begs, “Help me with this stuff! I’m overwhelmed!” to which Jesus says to dad just stay sitting and rest-- don’t bother. Fear is a great motivating factor -- fear of not coming through for others, and living to their standards, ultimately fear of failure. What’s so bad about failure? There’s this tribal feeling that failure means exile and exile means death. Of course in modern society this does not happen, but the subconscious fear is there. I’m convinced most fear boils down to the fear of death resulting in one working to avoid it.

  2. Along that line of stress, there is the rising cortisol level. Now the body’s immune system breaks down.

  3. And did we remember mom’s sugar cookies? WE MUST have sugar cookies. Lots and lots of sugar cookies. Diet starts later, so what’s the harm (besides the body eating up valuable nutrients to deal with that sugar which she was probably deficient to begin with?)

  4. Flu shot? Of course the flu shot don’t make you sicker. They are dead viruses. However, given such a shot in a run-down and anxiety-ridden body channels all the antibodies to a deadbeat virus while others can now invade because the dwindling antibody army does not have enough resources to fight other illnesses. One has to be healthy to make decent antibodies from a flu shot, thus the warning not to get it if one already feels sick. So mom (and the overburdened kids who are run everywhere including the shopping) did not hear Jesus in the living room and wondered why he did not help. Instead she listened to everyone else including avoiding the summer sun for her vitamin D because she was told to avoid it at all costs-- get the shot instead. What a horrible cancer-causing orb God created!

“So, am I the reason for the season?” Jesus asks. “No. I’ll have nothing to do with it or any of them. Oh, and I did get your prayer to heal you and the kids by the way so you can just continue doing what you are doing and not listening to me.” …….

I remember when I was young, during Christmas and New Year we used to wear new clothes the whole day, play games, eat cookies and cakes, play carols louder than normal and also play with balloons left after decoration. It was happiness I remember. It was not making Jesus as a reason for the season! It was the way we kids used to make ourselves happy during Christmas. Our parents would also be happy looking at us. All the hard work would be of worth only when we are finally happy.:)
Even now when my dad is old and we can no longer work hard the way we used to, I take along my dad on my favourite motorbike to the best bakery in this city and purchase a Christmas cake. Certainly Jesus deserves this honour with happiness when we can afford it. Oh! that little air pollution on the road and a less hotter sun in the afternoon does not matter ;)
All glory to God.
