Our Mediator between God and us had to have eternal worth in order to offer Himself as a pure and unspotted sacrifice to God on our behalf.Throughout the ages of the Old Testament, God's Justice had been veiled, somewhat, by His infinite patience in enduring man's sinfulness, even though punishments were handed out by God against His people from time to time.It is actually only with the Incarnation of Jesus that the time came when God's Justice could be expressed and openly vindicated. All the animal sacrifices did nothing to take away sin, nor were they able to satisfy God's Justice against man's sinful offenses against Him. We see this truth expressed in the book of Hebrews.Hebrews 10:5-10, "Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,'Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me;in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, "Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.' "When He said above, 'You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings' (these are offered according to the law), he then added, 'Behold, I have come to do your will.'He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."Now, through Jesus, as perfect man, our sins have been punished by God, and, finally, God's Justice has been satisfied!Praise and glory be to God in the showing forth His eternal Justice!waynemlj
