SorceryWe all have a basic understanding of this word Sorcery or Sorceries. For the most part we know it to mean witchcraft, Sorcery, magic or even perhaps evil spirts or Idolatry. The bible uses two different words to described Sorcery/Sorceries the first word used in 1 Samuel and 2 Chronicles among others and does mean basically the above.1 Samuel 15:23For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.2 Chronicles 33:6And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger However did you realize that the second word used in the Bible for sorcery/Sorceries,in its Greek form, is the word pharmakeia {far-mak-i'-ah} this is where we get our English word for Pharmaceutical i.e. Pharmacy or Drugs.pharmakeia {far-mak-i'-ah}from Strongs 5332 Part of Speech n f Outline of Biblical Usage 1) the use or the administering of drugs 2) poisoning 3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it 4) metaph. the deceptions and seductions of idolatryThis word is used in the following verses among othersIsaiah 47:12 Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. And again in Rev. 9:21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.and Rev 8:23And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived Therefore when the Bible warns us of the evils and sins of Sorceries it is also warning us about the use of Drugs

Nice bit of information kriss - I think this ties together the notion of modern day drugs (particularly the illegal ones) and how they can harm you both physically and spiritually. Our body is described as a temple of God on more than one occasion and when you let drugs control your temple, you're in many ways, kicking God out of his temple.

I have always had trouble with this quote. The easy answer would be that there is no such thing as a witch and Gods instructions to kill are toung in cheek, because we can never find a witch to kill, therfore not breaking Gods rules. The harder brain teaser is that ther are witches and God is telling us to break His rules. If that's the case. I admit that I am stumped on this issue. Quite a strange situation for one who professes to know most answers.Regards DL
