Agreed- the idea of working your way to heaven is laughable. Though we should indeed strive to follow our Lord's commands.

Yes and that means producing good fruit as he has suggested that we do, but can that be called work?

Honestly, I've seen a lot of folks get really caught up in word games around 'work'. I don't think that's a very productive path to go down.

For my view: being alive involves moving and taking action. We are alive in Christ. Believing is a verb, accepting is a verb, having faith is a verb. And then there's all the outward actions to: serving, loving, supporting, etc. A faith that is alive in Christ is moving, doing stuff --- even if we can't see it from the outside. None of these things do any saving, but they are natural result of living breathing moving faith.

In contrast, dead things don't move. Dead faith doesn't move. They just rot.

According to Scripture, yes.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. (Eph 2:10)

Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. (Phil 2:12,13)
