I've come to a little roadblock.Who is Joseph's father?MAT 1:16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.LUK 3:23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli.My response: I'm sure Jacob is the same Jacob, son of Issac in Genesis. Joseph is a direct descendant of Jacob.Next one:How old was Ahaziah when he began to reign?22 in 2 Kings 8:2642 in 2 Chron 22:2When did Baasha die?26th year of the reign of Asa I Kings 16:6-836th year of the reign of Asa I 2 Chron 16:1Who was Josiah's successor?Jehoahaz - 2 Chron 36:1Shallum - Jeremiah 22:11

The differences in the genealogies are easily understood. Luke's Genealogy starts at Adam and goes to David. Matthew's Genealogy starts at Abraham and goes to David. When the genealogies arrive at David, they split with David's sons: Nathan (Mary's side) and Solomon (Joseph's side). There is no discrepancy because one genealogy is for Mary and the other is for Joseph. It was customary to mention the genealogy through the father even though it was clearly known that it was through Mary.Note that at the beginning of the genealogy Luke says: "He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph..." brings to mind his virgin birth and suggests the importance of the role of Mary in Jesus' genealogy. Although tracing the genealogy through the mother's line was unusual, so was the virgin birth. The intents of the genealogies were obviously different which is clearly seen in their styles. Luke was not written to the Jews, Matthew was. Therefore, Matthew would carry the legal line (from Abraham through David) and Luke the biological one (from Adam through David). Also, notice that Luke's first three chapters mention Mary eleven times; hence, the genealogy from her. Fourth, notice Luke 3:23, "And when He began His ministry, Jesus Himself was about thirty years of age, being supposedly the son of Joseph, the son of Eli," This designation "supposedly" seems to signify the Marian genealogy since it seems to indicate that Jesus is not the biological son of Joseph. There is a lot more detail regarding this at http://www.carm.org/diff/2geneologies.htm
Wakka;43948]How old was Ahaziah when he began to reign?22 in 2 Kings 8:2642 in 2 Chron 22:2
Simple translation issue. 2 Chron also says 22 said:
www.carm.org, the discrepancy in ages is due to a copyist error. We can see that the difference in ages is 20 years. The system of number notation used by the Jews at the time of Ezra consisted of horizontal hooks that represented decades. If one or both of the hooks were smudged or flaked off of a papyri, then the dates would be off by ten years or a factor of ten.The fact that this is a copyist error does not invalidate the inspiration or authority of Scripture. Remember, God inspired the originals. They were without error. The copies have problems, though very very few. The copies are copies of inspired documents and, unfortunately, some copyist errors did creep into the manuscripts. However, they do not affect any doctrinal areas and are very rare.See http://www.carm.org/diff/2Kings8_26.htm for more details.
Wakka;43948]When did Baasha die?26th year of the reign of Asa I Kings 16:6-8 - this does not state a time of death! it just says that he died at some point. The time reference is to when his son became king- not relevant to his fathers death! No contradiction said:
Who was Josiah's successor?
Jehoahaz - 2 Chron 36:1 - became king in place of his fatherShallum - Jeremiah 22:11 - Shallum is the personal name of Jehoahaz, the name taken on ascending the throne (the latter meaning The Lord seizes). Kind of like the pope changing his name on ascension... Names were very important to the Israelites and changing ones name was a common practice - e.g. Abram ([God is] Exalted Father) became Abraham (the Father of many).
