How about a chance to vent?I'll start: I opened up the Sunday newspaper and the merchants are already advertising for Christmas. The push is on; they don't want to lose money and we all know this is the season for them to make money. It came to me how Christmas has been ruined by the greedy merchants.I know, this is not a new concept, but when I opened up the newspaper this morning on Nov. 12 th and saw all the Christmas advertising, it hit me in a different way. How we're in bondage because of Christmas spending. God never wanted us to be in bondage and if we don't produce expensive presents, our family and relatives will think we don't even like them, not to mention we don't love them.K mart and Walmart advertised these Christmas presents with a twist: D Vinci code on their TV screens-talk about adding insult to injury. So how about you? What rattles your cage?

Nothing! Christ has the victory.Did God ever want 'Christmas'? Can 'Christmas' be spoiled?

i can understand what you mean this is the first year i have organised for christmas i have been buying since august and have almost finished. I dread the strain when i get older of this vast expense. It seems christmas is put forward too early but hopefully the real meanings will hit you christmas morning. Even if it is not always from a christian point of view it is a very happy time for families and people. Put away the heavy prices and the tradition of expensive presents because in truth its not really the presents that matter, most people see that only sometimes it seems that presents are the show of love when really if your there and you have a good day with those you spend it will be brilliant.

Did God want Christmas?God of the Old Testament wasn't adverse to his children having a good time, as he created Feast Days. In the New Testament, God went to a wedding celebration, so we know he likes fun.But Christmas has become a chore, obligation and bondage to spend too much money .I'm not saying we shouldn't have a good time and celebrate Christmas but we shouldn't allow merchants to run Christmas for us.God always has the victory; it's many of his children and the lost that are in bondage.

hmm well they say Jesus came down to help the Jews and then christianity formed, perhaps it is people celebating themselves, like children making special things for their parents randomly. Yes it is wrong that people make money on it, but it is also a time of charity and kindnesshopefully that out wieghs the greed.

Indeed- but did he do so in the New Testament? I can't find even one.
God always has the victory
Then why is your 'cage rattled'?

pointer, reread my first post; the wedding feast. You said Christ has the victory, I agreed, and said many of his children are in bondage for overspending and stressing about Christmas.

pointer, reread my first post; the wedding feast.
It changes nothing at all; and it does not mention wedding feasts.
You said Christ has the victory, I agreed
Then why is your cage ever rattled? Is it worth getting bothered about an illusory, worldly occasion?
and said many of his children are in bondage for overspending and stressing about Christmas.
Anyone in regular bondage is no Christian.

I completely sympathize with you ROS. What gets my goat is the recent Walmart debacle where they are now returning to Christmas because they lost money last year. Everyone seems to be applauding this "noble" return of Walmart to Christmas yet it's motivated by nothing more than greed. The problem with the Christmas Commerce lies not in what it means to me necessarily, but what it means to everyone else. Society is all about buying that perfect and expensive gift which is what, so we're told, Christmas is really all about. This drive to shop and buy may overide the single experience that could lead someone to Christ. I do have a problem with this.

Thanks, SwampFox. There are some nice ( I know some places around the country are different) Walmarts around here and goceries are cheaper there but it bugged me all this controversy about " Merry Christmas" last year. Then they come out and say Merry Christmas is back in and this morning when I open up the newspaper it is advertising Christmas stuff ( not waiting until after Thanksgiving this year ) and their TV screens have scenes of the Di VInci code on it.I think we are all bombarded with way too much commericalism every day and it is devaluing our lives.Hope you agree.
