God, Himself, wrote the Ten Commandments, with His own finger in tablets of stone. These tablets were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, in the Holiest Place in the temple - in the very presence of God.Jesus said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up...But he spake of the temple of his body." John 2:19-21. Here, Jesus made the transition from the temple building to the temple of His body.Later, the Apostle Paul wrote, "Know ye not that YE are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Jesus left us here as His temple upon the earth. The Old Covenant was the Ten Commandment Law. Deut 4:13; 5:2; Ex 34:28. It was based upon the promise of the people. Ex 24:7. It was an external covenant, and they broke it. The New Covenant is based upon the promise of God:"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Jer 31:31-34; Matt 26:28; Heb 8:8-10."A NEW HEART also will I give you, and a NEW SPIRIT will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put MY SPIRIT within you, and CAUSE you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them." Ezek 36:26,27.Who is he speaking of? Paul answers, "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made, He saith not, And to thy seeds, as of many: but as of one, And to thy seed which is Christ." "And IF ye be Christ's, then are YE Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise." Ga 3:16,29."For HE IS NOT A JEW, who is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God." Ro 2:28,29.The promises were made through Abraham to the children of promise (Ro 9:6-8), who are justified by faith - whether, Jew or Gentile. Ga 3:7; Eph 2:12,13;3:6.So now we, as the body of Christ, are His temple. IF we are children of the New Covenant, then, the Lord, with His own finger, has written His law upon our hearts and minds."And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ARK of his testament..."Rev 11:19. And which laws were inside the ark? The Ten Commandments. This Scripture tells us, that the Ten Commandments are in the heavenly temple. Not nine - ten. When the Lord finished His great work of Creation, He sealed it by sanctifying and blessing the seventh day, as a memorial to His work. He finished and rested (sat down, if you will). When Jesus bought creation back again, He cried, "It is finished!" and sat down at the right hand of God and rested. By faith in His redemptive work, we, also, enter into His rest. The seventh day points to His Lordship, as Creator of all things. It, also, commemorates Redemption (Deut 5:12-15) and Restoration in His coming kingdom (Isa 66:22,23). Our Creator sanctified the seventh day at creation - before man's fall and long before the law was given. In the garden of Eden, God told Adam and Eve, that, they could eat from any tree in the garden, save one...and what did they do? They heeded Satan, who queried, "Hath God said?" And ever since, men have questioned God's Word. Adam and Eve chose their own tree, over-ruling God's Word, authority and Lordship. In the fourth commandment, God said, "REMEMBER the Sabbath day, to keep it holy...for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: WHEREFORE (for THIS reason) the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it."It's, really, very simple - the Sabbath day could never be any other day, because it is, inseparably, linked to His creation work.We have exchanged God's Word (just like Adam and Eve) for the traditions of men. God sanctified the seventh day. He never changed his mind and sanctified the first day of the week (called, "The Lord's Day," in pagan sun worship) - men did. Men chose their own day, over-ruling God's Word, authority and Lordship. His faithful believers will surrender their various traditions and return to the Word of God, alone (sola scritura) , and once-again, acknowledge His Lordship. The angel calls to us in Revelation, "Fear God and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him, that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of water." Rev 14:7 - Worship Our Creator. And who is The Creator?"In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God...all things were made by him..." John 1:1-3. Jesus, referred to Himself, as "Lord of the Sabbath," because He was/is Creator of all things. He is God, Almighty - the One who instituted the Sabbath.Do you see why Satan has attempted to usurp the Sabbath for himself? (The "Little Horn" (Antichrist) who was to arise out of the Roman Empire, "thinks to change times and law." - Dan 7:25) Because, for a brief moment, he intends to be the lord of this world! - He is Antichrist! The "Two Greatest Commandments," that Jesus gave us, are a summation of the Ten. If we love the Lord, supremely, we will keep the first four. If we love our neighbour as ourselves, we will, also, keep the last six. These two commandments were given, while, the Old Covenant was, still, in effect. Lev 19:18; Deut 6:5. It was not a change of law, but, a change of heart.Jesus said, "...but IF thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." Matt 19:17.Do you want to have RIGHT to the tree of life? Do you want to ENTER Heaven? At the end of all things, we read, "Blessed are they that DO HIS COMMANDMENTS, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Rev 22:14.At the very end of the Book of Books, the Apostle John makes a connection between keeping the commandments and entering Heaven.

the Sabbath day could never be any other day, because it is, inseparably, linked to His creation work.
The seventh-day 'sabbath' or rest given to the Israelites (not to Christians) was just a 'picture' of the rest that God entered into, a rest that the Israelites could not actually enter. There was true rest for God's people only because of the cross of Christ. 'It remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience. So God again set a certain day, calling it 'Today', when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before:"Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." Because if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. A sabbath rest is now given to the people of God; for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, be eager to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.' Heb 4:6-11Christ's sabbath is the Christian life itself, which, every day, is a rest from striving for perfection by works, because the Christian has been justified by the blood of Christ. It was God in Christ who achieved perfection and the perfect sacrifice on our behalf, so that we may be accounted as righteous as He. For those justified, every day is for rejoicing and gratitude, so is holy in thought, word and deed.

Well said herald. The word sabbath means one thing; afterall, we have the commandment given to ALL of God's people:Exodus 20:8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.Jesus clearly spoke about this in Matthew 5:Matthew 5:17-19 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. He continues on to expand upon the details of some of the 10 Commandments as well.

'Matthew 5:18[Till heaven and earth pass] This expression denotes that the law never would be destroyed until it should be all fulfilled. It is the same as saying everything else may change; the very earth and heaven may pass away, but the law of God shall not be destroyed until its whole design has been accomplished.'(from Barnes' Notes on the NT)Jesus came to fulfil the Law.

The Apostle James wrote, that, if we break one of the Ten Commandments, we have broken them all and are become transgressors of the law. "...for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4"For he that said, Do not commit adultery (#7), said also, Do not kill (#6). Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law." Ja 2:11.As I have demonstrated, IF we are children of the New Covenant, then, we are children of Abraham, and spiritual Israel.Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall ENTER into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. MANY will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord...have we not in thy name done many wonderful works? ("Christians" do works in His name) And then will I profess to them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me ye that work iniquity." (lawlessness)The other side is, And hereby we do know that we know him, IF we keep his commandments. He that saith, I KNOW HIM, and keepeth not his commandments, is a LIAR, and the truth (Jesus, the law, and the commandments John 14:6; Ps 119:142, 151) is not in him."Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments."Jesus prophesied the keeping of the Sabbath during the "Great Tribulation," in Matt 24, and in His Kingdom in Isaiah 66:23.We can say, anything we want, but, if we transgress His law, the Scriptures say, that, we do not belong to Him.

Jesus prophesied the keeping of the Sabbath during the "Great Tribulation," in Matt 24,
Jesus prophesied (not unreasonably) that Jews would keep a weekly 'sabbath'; not that Christians would.
and in His Kingdom in Isaiah 66:23.
This prophecy was made in the terms of the old dispensation, and is a hint of the permanent sabbath that Christians enjoy.
we are children of the New Covenant, then, we are children of Abraham, and spiritual Israel.
Not children of Moses, whose Law was preparatory, outward and insufficient.
Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments."
'"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment."' Matt 5:21-22 NIV'"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart."' Matt 5:27-28 NIV'"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but keep the oaths you have made to the Lord.' But I tell you, Do not swear at all."' Matt 5:33-34 NIV'"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person."' Matt 5:38-39 NIV'"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Matt 5:43-44 NIV'I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh so that they will follow my decrees and keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.' Ezek 11:18-21 'I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.' Ezek 36:25-26 NIV'"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the Lord. I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbour, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the Lord. For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." Jer 31:33-34 NIV

If His law is written in your mind and heart, you will not transgress it. A holy life gives evidence to a converted life. Repentance = change."Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid. Yea, we establish the law." Ro 3:31.Why is it, that, christians, only, spiritualize the fourth commandment - the only one He said, to "Remember?" Does anyone think, that, they can worship other gods, bow down to graven images, take His name in vain, profane His holy day, dishonor parents, murder, commit adultery, steal, bear false witness, covet and walk with a holy God?How foolish! There is, only, one authority - the Word of God."And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation, unto all them that obey Him." Heb 5:9.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein shall be burned up." 2 Pet 3:10. (So much for a secret rapture.)Jesus said, "Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven: and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: AND THEN SHALL appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man COMING IN THE CLOUDS of heaven with power and great glory." Matt 24:29, 30.These Scriptures, plainly, show that He comes after the Tribulation.Where were the children of Israel, when the 10 plagues happened? Where was Noah and his family during the flood? Safely kept within them.

Why is it, that, christians, only, spiritualize the fourth commandment
Because the fourth was the figurative clue to the keeping of the others, which was impossible to do, as James observed. The Law was given to rebels, who had not been justified by faith as Abraham and Israel had been. It was both a 'stopgap' and a reminder of divine demands until Jesus came to make keeping of His commands possible through the cross.
- the only one He said, to "Remember?"
The sabbath had been previously kept in the desert.

"Jesus said, "Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days
Jesus was answering two separate questions:'"Tell us," they said, "when will this happen [the destruction of the temple], and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"' Matt 24:3 NIVSo Jesus will return immediately after tribulation, but not the tribulation of the Jews in AD 70. As so often with prophecy, there is no real difference between events as far as God is concerned, and this was part of Jesus' point.

Anyone who reads into Jesus's teachings that the Ten Commandments and the law "don't count" anymore. As the verses in Matthew 5 so excellently state, the law doesn't change until heaven and earth pass away and I'm positive that hasn't happened yet, but will do so in the future upon the return and Judgment by Our Father and then the law won't be needed anymore for obvious reasons. I know this because I can reach out and touch the earth right now; it hasn't gone anywhere.Jesus is the Word in Flesh. The Bible is the Word made text. I don't buy for a moment the argument of some concordance or "scholarly" individual that espouses the famous phrase "well...that doesn't really mean that..." or some similar phrase. How could the commandments be null and void if Christ expands on them just a few sentences later? "Commandments 1-3 and 5-10 count but #4 does not" - that sounds like picking and choosing out of the Word of God if you ask me. As herald said above, certainly they're not all null and void otherwise we're free to do whatever we like and this would seem to deny the Christ is the way to God.Matthew 5:19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. What are the commandments? Obviously they would be the same ones talked about in the two previous verses. If these laws were no good anymore, then that would certainly suggest their destruction which is the exact opposite of what Yeshua said to us. In case there is any question, he states it not once but twice:Matthew 5:17Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Not one jot - Greek iota, equivalent of our period in a nutshell - of the law changes is his statement in the following verse til heaven and earth pass away. Hebrews 10:14-16 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;I John 3:4Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.I John 3:22And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. I save my final summary for the wonderful book of James which puts everything to rest. The book itself is written to:James 1:1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. This means all of us; this is the instruction to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad and lead down to the nations of today.I'll let James 2 do the speaking from here:James 2:8-26 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath showed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.Stated right there in black in white in the Bible. There's no faith without works meaning that you cannot simply say I love Christ therefore I shall enter in unto the kingdom of heaven. You have to do and that entails from the instruction in the previous scriptures that it includes his commandments. The law hasn't changed - Christ became our sacrifice for our sins for the ages! That's how he fulfilled.

What are the commandments? Obviously they would be the same ones talked about in the two previous verses.
They included the elaborate sacrificial laws, dietary and hygienic laws, circumcision law, law regarding passover and other festivals, as well as a sabbath law that very few other than strict Jews today keep, as it prohibits using fuel, including electricity, on one day in seven. They excluded precepts that Jesus Himself added, because Mosaic Law was concessionary. To satisfy the Law of Moses and also the 'law' of Jesus, one must live as a strict Jew but believe circumcision unnecessary, criteria that very few satisfy, if anyone does. The Mosaic Law as law was ended at the moment that Jesus cried "It is finished!" and the veil of the Temple was torn in two from top to bottom. It is still valuable as a guide, but Christians have no more law than Abraham had. What they have is the motivation to love because Jesus first loved them; love covers all situations, and every moment is holy, not just certain days.

"For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Matt 24:21-27.Though it was referring to 70 A.D., it is, plainly, referring to the "Great Tribulation," also. The "Secret Rapture" theory was invented by the Roman priest, Ribera, by direction of the church. The Reformers were pointing to the Papacy as the fulfillment of the Scriptures, referring to the "Son of Perdition," and "The Antichrist". They wanted to get the heat off the church. This interpretation was picked up by Darby, and, later, by Scoffield, who incorporated it in his version of the Bible. When I was first saved, everyone wanted a Scofield Bible. The Evangelicals ran with it.Guess what the Beast calls it's "mark?" I will answer that in a post, entitled, "The Mark of the Beast/ The Seal of God."

You are confusing the law. There is a distinction between the Ten Commandments and the Ceremonial law.Ceremonial Law:1. Is called, "the law contained in ordinances." Eph 2:15.2. Was spoken by Moses. Lev 1:1-3.3. Was written by Moses in a book. 11 Chronicles 35:12.4. Was placed in the side of the ark. Deut 31:24-26.5. Was nailed to the cross. Col 2:14.6. Was abolished by Christ. Eph 2:15.10 Commandments:1. Is called, the "royal law." Ja 2:8.2. Was spoken by God. Deut 4:12,13.3. Was written with the finger of God. Ex 31:18.4. Was placed inside the ark. Ex 40:20; Heb 9:4.5. Is to "stand forever and ever." Ps 111:7,8.6. Was not destroyed by Christ. Matt 5:17,18.The ceremonial law was temporary and was fulfilled in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. That is why, we no longer, sacrifice animals...The Ten Commandments, function like a mirror - showing us God's holiness and our lack therof. The law exposes us, so that we can repent and be changed from "glory to glory." That is what sanctification and the circumcision of the heart is all about.

Again there comes the picking and choosing - what makes some of the commandments more worthy than others to be kept? Take the dietary laws for instance - why are we commanded not to eat pork? I'm sure you're familiar with pigs and the lifestyle in which they live; they also don't sweat which means literally every bit of dirt (and in many regards poison) ends up in their bodies and isn't sweated out like it is in our case. The very same with the sabbath law, our bodies are tuned in to needing rest; hence the reason why the average person doesn't work a full 7 days a week when they can help it. The common sense of many of the other laws speaks for each respective law.
Heaven and earth certainly did not pass away at that moment. The temple itself was a metaphorical action by God that meant something far more. The Jews had become concerned with following the law and not God - it was more important to keep up with the over 1k precepts than it was to worship our Father. As Hosea 6:6 says:For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.God wants our love, and that love is demonstrated through following his laws laid out before us in the entire Bible, not just the parts that we like. The difference Jesus made was that we now are forgiven when we get it wrong and do not follow his law. The condition is that we must believe in him and ask for forgiveness, but it is still our duty. Unlike the recent Pirates of Caribbean Movie, they are laws and not guidelines. That's the fulfilment part that Christ spoke of.

Is not lighting a fire on a sabbath part of ceremonial law? Or not keeping a refrigerator running on a sabbath? Who keeps a sabbath? Not people who drive to 'church'.(SwampFox;4034)

Is circumcision necessary?

The Jews added hundreds of rules and regulations to the keeping of the Sabbath, making it oppressive, until, today. Jesus is our living example. How did He keep the Sabbath? By worshipping the Father and ministering to men, in fellowship, teaching, healing, delivering...I will follow Him. And how do we know, that we love God? A feeling? Or loving obedience?"And THIS is love, that we walk after his commandments." 2 John 6."For THIS is the love of God, THAT we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5:3. Do you find them grievous? His law liberates me from the flesh, the world and the devil. Not by my might or power, but, by His Spirit, that dwells within me - His Spirit of Grace. Hebrews 10:26-31.It is those that break the law, who are under it's curse.

Is circumcision necessary?
Again, for personal hygiene reasons, sure. However:Romans 2:25-29For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
