"what is currently true will shortly be false" is i think the original quote, and tbh i'm not sure where it comes from, i thought it was a tenet of Tao, which i am not real fam with

I am reading Walden right now....Thoreau might have borrowed it

Lol! My choice would be "bear" :) can't be Budweiser :D, "beer" I don't think "bare" fits either as doesn't that depict "uncovered"? So...gotta be the same bear as the big furry forest creature :)

And what was once currently true has long since been forgotten... So when reminded it may appear as new truth, but is in fact old.
Maybe there is no new truth to be known... We just need to be reminded of what God's people in the past knew and practiced. That was what the reformation was all about. Old truths coming to light which were previously buried and forgotten amid a labyrinth of superstition and confusion. Has the reformation finished? Is there new light on old truth yet to be revealed? For some, I believe yes.
you remind me of the manner in which Christ describes our possible salvation, as a recalling more than a learning anything new :)

...And if you pair that with the one of the man who was given sight in two stages, first faint and blurry, then full sight as he spoke with our Lord and He touched the man again, you can't believe it took Him 2 tries to get the healing right, so...what does it mean for us?
This blind man who required two touches...

"And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly." Mark 8:22-25

...corresponds directly to what Apostle Paul was writing about here:

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." I Cor 13:12

Both Jesus and Paul were talking about improving our "eyes to see" so as to "see" [understand] better God's whole message to us. We need to be growing. John the Baptist speaks of the same thing here:

"He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30

This speaks of the new man in us [move toward the Life that Jesus is] growing while the old man in us is to diminish [move toward absolute death].

We may need to be touched by God more than one time in order to overcome the world of the flesh completely as did Jesus. We have been provided the means: scripture [flesh of Jesus] and blood [the quickening Spirit].

"Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed." John 6:53-55

Let me begin by saying that sound doctrine is that which PERMITS us and INFORMS us to be Christ-like in our thoughts and actions. Opinions matter for nothing...unless to take away our potential for entering into Christ and His life, love, joy, and peace.

So then sound doctrine is to be noted by the BEHAVIOUR of the person holding to that doctrine.

Mary had a doctrinal flaw when she didn't believe in the resurrection of Jesus but Jesus revealed Himself to her anyway.

Good thing Jesus sees past our doctrinal flaws and looks into our heart and even if we seek Him in the wrong places, He will say our name, and reveal Himself, just like He did with Mary.

Unless of course the doctrine we have believed leads us to a false confidence...and a non-seeking of God's presence.

The Pharisees said "we see" therefore they were condemned.

This is Ellen G. White's understanding. But it is a MISUNDERSTANDING.
If you believe that your salvation is so secure that nothing you nor anyone else can do, or not do, to change it, you need to have a discussion with those broken branches lying around under the Vine waiting to be burnt. Our salvation is not unconditional.

Hello @brakelite,

What Scriptural basis does this thought of 'probation' have? In the light of Ephesians 1:3-8, it has none.

'Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings
in heavenly places in Christ:
According as He hath chosen us in Him
before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame
before Him in love:
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children
by Jesus Christ to Himself,
according to the good pleasure of His will,
To the praise of the glory of His grace,
wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved.
In whom we have redemption through His blood,
the forgiveness of sins,
according to the riches of His grace;
Wherein He hath abounded toward us
in all wisdom and prudence; ... '

(Eph 1:3-8)

This a present reality ('Who hath'). We are at this moment, 'in Christ Jesus', 'Holy and without blame', before God, our Father.
We are, at this moment 'accepted in the Beloved', in Whom we have 'redemption through His blood', 'the forgiveness of sins', according to the riches of His grace.

* In His perfect love there is no fear, for, '
perfect love casts out fear'. Fear is just, 'the beginning,' of wisdom, it is not wisdom itself (see Psal 111:10; Prov.1:7; Prov. 9:10).

'But of Him (God the Father) are ye in Christ Jesus,
Who of God is made unto us
wisdom,
.. and righteousness,
.... and sanctification,
...... and redemption:
That, according as it is written,
"He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord."'

(1 Cor.1:30-31)

* Christ is all these things to us - NOW. (Heb.10:22)

Praise His Holy Name!

Blessed assurance!
In Christ Jesus
Our risen and glorified
Saviour, Lord and Head.

Chris
All those scriptures are right and true, and are a great comfort to all who are in Christ. But they are no comfort at all to those who turn back... To those who love the things of the world and not the things of God... No comfort whatsoever to those who walk away from Christ, more those who profess Christianity but bear no fruit but love into themselves. No guarantees of salvation for those not abiding in the Vine. Our ultimate Salvation is contingent on our faithfulness... Jesus' finished work on the cross to justify us would have been useless if Christ was not raised from the dead, and our continuing abiding in Him is contingent on His ministry as our high priest in the heavenly sanctuary. Our place in glory is sure if when Christ comes out when we die, we are found in Him.

Please don't criticise what you have not seriously studied. The sins of Israel were recorded on the horns of the altar by the sprinkling of blood. The sins were transferred to the sanctuary through the medium of the blood. They weren't removed until the day of atonement and the cleansing process signified by the two goats. This was merely a type of aNT concept and truth being more carried out in the heavenly sanctuary. If you are interested I could offer a much more detailed explanation.

Our salvation is not unconditional.
Our salvation is a supernatural work of God which is based solely on (1) the grace of God, (2) the perfect finished work of Christ on the Cross and in His resurrection, and (3) the perfection of God's salvation, which guarantees the glorification of His saints. Christians are sinners saved by grace and kept by the power of God.

TITUS 3
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

1 PETER 1
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Agreed. And there is nothing we can add to or take away from that blessed gift. That does not however remove nor take the place of our free will and or right to choose whether or not we remain in that position. Like the wicked servant who owes his master a huge debt... Was forgiven... But refused to forgive his fellow servant of a much smaller debt. His original debt though forgiven, was not forgotten. By the servants own choice, he lost his salvation.
EGW and the church which she helped to found did not nor has the church ever taught anything other than salvation by grace through faith. Obedience, or lack thereof, doesn't change that... But our abiding in Christ does. And that will always be our choice and the lack of obedience will reflect the choices we have made and our willingness to surrender to the authority of the God we believe in.

Do we really seek Him? As a believer, shouldn't we believe God doesn't hide from us and makes us seek Him in order to find Him? As believers, aren't we hidden with Christ in God? It's the Holy Spirit's job to change your theology and follow sound doctrine and it happens slowly, not all at once.

This is he problem. People nowadays tend to see this as a positional doctrinal thing rather than an experiential thing.
