Well you can learn at your own rate but my big point here is that you must understand this verse properly to continue to learn right thats why Im protesting so hard when people say oh It just means forever, based on what, an opinion. Gods Says pay attention do not be ignorant because he is trying to draw our attention to this important point.

Someone mentioned that saying 1000 years = 1 day for God seems a bit limiting...well perhaps so but I think we're limited in our own capacity to understand Him. I would submit that you do that math as I have:We live for 70 years just to pull a number (and a Biblical one) out. Multiply 365 for rounding purposes times 70. That's how many days you'll live.365x70=25,55025,550 x 1000 = 25,550,000Over 25 million years - quite a long time, but not the eternity of our father. It's meant to convey this astronomical figure of time. 25.5 million years is a drop in the bucket for our eternal Father.II Peter 3:8
But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
It was said two ways for a reason.

I understand this verse being about eternity is what you have all been taught its what many commentarys say but its not what the original Jewish custom of the day taught it was a figure of speach and if you remember the aspostels were first Jewish. So it would have been normal for them to say this expecting it to be understood as it was in that day. If you are a dispensationalist you should understand why this teaching got misinterpted it does not fit with the teaching of a literal millieum for those of us that believe in a literal 1000 year millieum you must interpt this verse as a literal 1000 years =1 day. as the same words are used therefore have to translated as the same meaning. This is not to say God is confined to time but rather that he is not the God of confusion he uses time as his measure he just has a differnt measure for the spirit (in heaven) than flesh upon the earth(man) this does not mean that he can not operate outside of time but that he has measured it for his use both in Heaven and on earth using differnt critereathis whole chapter is about End time events thats why he put it here to tell us we need it to understand Johns vision in Rev, which covers the from the serpent in Gen to the End. Now I know I also apply it to genesis thats because the tradition of the Jews was to do so.But whether or not you apply it to Genesis doesnt really matter and effects no ones Salvation. but understanding events of Revelation are yet future so revelent to us.They taught these millieums (1000years) as days so Adam was born about 6 Days (6000 years) ago the millieum begins the 7th day (7000th year)Here is what was taught in days of old::............. ...........................Jewish figure of SpeechA common saying among the Jews, founded on the same passage, (Mynv Pla hb "qh) (lv wmwy) , "the day of the holy blessed God is a thousand years" this phrase should be thought to refer, as it is by some, to the day of judgment, and be expressive of the duration of that: it is certain that the Jews interpreted days of millenniums, and reckoned millenniums by days, and used this phrase in confirmation of it. Thus they say (F1), ``in the time to come, which is in the last days, on the sixth day, which is the sixth millennium, when the Messiah comes, for the day of the holy blessed God is a thousand years.'' And a little after, ``"the Lord hath created a new thing in the earth, a woman shall compass a man". This is in the time of the Messiah which is in the sixth day.'' And elsewhere (F2,) ``the sixth degree is called the sixth day, the day of the holy blessed God is a thousand years. And in that day the King Messiah shall come, and it shall be called the feast of gathering, for the holy blessed God will gather in it the captivity of his people.'' So they call the sabbath, or seventh day, the seventh millennium, and interpret( F3) ``"the song for the sabbath day", (Psalms 92:1) title, for the seventh millennium, for one day of the holy blessed God is a thousand years.'' To which agrees the tradition of Elias, which runs thus (F4) ``it is the tradition of the house of Elias, that the world shall be six thousand years, two thousand years void (of the law), two thousand years the law, and two thousand years the days of the Messiah;'' for they suppose that the six days of the creation were expressive of the six thousand years in which the world will stand; and that the seventh day prefigures the last millennium, in which will be the day of judgment, and the world to come; for ``the six days of the creation (they say ) is a sign or intimation of these things: on the sixth day man was created; and on the seventh his work was finished; so the kings of the nations of the world (continue) five millenniums, answering to the five days, in which were created the fowls, and the creeping things of the waters, and other things; and the enjoyment of their kingdom is a little in the sixth, answerable to the creation of the beasts, and living creatures created at this time in the beginning of it; and the kingdom of the house of David is in the sixth millennium, answerable to the creation of man, who knew his Creator, and ruled over them all; and in the end of that millennium will be the day of judgment, answerable to man, who was judged in the end of it; and the seventh is the sabbath, and it is the beginning of the world to come.''.....................................This is what was meant by this figure of speach and it is what is meant in this verse. 1 day=1000years a day to God

God can operate outside time but he uses it as a measure because he is not the author of confusion He can use it as a marker without being subject to it we have time here is God affected by it?

They taught these millieums (1000years) as days so Adam was born about 6 Days (6000 years) ago the millieum begins the 7th day (7000th year)Here is what was taught in days of old::.............in the time to come, which is in the last days, on the sixth day, which is the sixth millennium, when the Messiah comes, for the day of the holy blessed God is a thousand years.'' ...............for they suppose that the six days of the creation were expressive of the six thousand years in which the world will stand; and that the seventh day prefigures the last millennium, in which will be the day of judgment, and the world to come; for ``the six days of the creation (they say ) is a sign or intimation of these things: on the sixth day man was created; and on the seventh his work was finished; so the kings of the nations of the world (continue) five millenniums, answering to the five days, This is what was meant by this figure of speach and it is what is meant in this verse. 1 day=1000years a day to God
Using these calculations would mean we are already in the 7000th year (the millenium) , the book of revelation has come and gone , Christ is reigning , and Satan is bound........or am I missing something here .... ??Arnie M>

Adam was born appox. 6000 years ago the second coming starts the millieum then comes the 7000 year(day)I dont get how you would count it other wise Christ was born about 2000 years ago and there appox 4000 before thatChrist comes somewhere in the 6000th year(which the Jews called the sixth day)

The exact day form Creation upto now is 7,500 years and 6 month.
Hi EliasHow did you come up with that figure ?Bishop Usher calculated creation at 4004 BC + 2008 = 6012 Julian years x 365 = 2194380 days divided by 360 days (Jewish year) = 6095 Jewish years since creation.I'm not saying I buy into all this , just wondering where the 7500 year figure comes from.Arnie M.

I too would like to know how you got this number also Elias, you got me curiousI would have to come down closer to Arnie on this one the Jewish calander is the year 5768 timed from Adam then there is the solar and lunur calander difference and we could have a difference of several hundred years by error alone I do have a differnt view of the time before Adam but I am confused where you would get that number. I cant see no matter your veiw how you would come up with it.

Why do you show such anger toward someone who sees things a little differently from you? Is everyone who disagrees with you wrong? Personally, I would not so bold as to suggest that since I know I can be wrong--even with my personal opinions.
Being called a cult because you defend God's Word from time to time can result in such anger, I'd even really call it righteous indignation. If following II Peter 3:8 as the Word of God, just as the rest of the whole book makes me a cultist, then so be it.

I resent being called ignorant, although I know I am ignorant of many things. One thing I do know is that God has always existed and is NOT limited by time as we are.I think because of the name calling and people who think they know all the answers and get angry at those who disagree with them, you don't need my ignorant input. I'm out of here. BYE!
If you read the thread right Jon marc you would see that this was a mistaken error in Kals reading of the post the only time "ignorant" was used was in scripture as quoted by God Kal later saw his mistake and apoligized for it Kal never called you ignorant nor was anyone else called Ignorant reread the whole thread and you will see you are mistaken.Nor did I express anger toward you I just said you were wrong because this verse is mis taught It is a hebrew figure of speech if you read my post you will understand thismaybe you are having a bad day but you seem to have misread the entire thread

Hi DenverI was the one who used the term cults and false teachers and now I see my post has been removed. How convenient.I stand by what I say in that using 2Peter3 as a formula to change one day into a thousand is incorrect. The cults and false teachers of the 1800's used this incorrectly as well. They took the 2300 days of Daniel (cleansing of the temple) , using the year 457 BC as the starting date , they converted the days to years and ended up with 1843 as the time the Lord would return. This movement was first known as the Millerites and included many mainline protestant churches. Of course the teaching was false but a remnant continued on to become SDA and JW's as we know them today.(ps: modern day SDA are pretty much mainstream Christians today , to their credit)My whole point was to say that to use 2Peter3 as a formula to change 1=1000 is completely out of context and not correct.I did not accuse anyone on this forum of being a cult or false teacher , I did however accuse some of using 2Peter3 completely out of context. This I stand by.Hope that clarifies my positionMany thanksArnie M.

Arnie I dont see what this has to do with anything people have been taking scripture or ideas and making religions/cults out of them for thousands of years. What does that prove ????????????to use this as a reason for dening the truth as was taught orginally by Peter as I have posted the Jews understood this figure of speech. Is just plain non sense. IMHOMost all lies/false religions start with some bit of truth If you dont want to believe what Peter was saying fine its your choice but because somebody once formed a religion around a mis guided idea seems like a pretty strange reason to base your theology on. How is this proof of anything

II Peter 3:8 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."That means one week is 7,000 years, and we are coming to the Sabbath of that week very shortly, which the common name for the next thousand years is the "Millennium age".
arniemI stand by what I say in that using 2Peter3 as a formula to change one day into a thousand is incorrect.
Nobody is changing days, its the deeper meaning of the verse as well as the whole chapter that is or should be the focus. And that is,we are very close to the end.

I have to say that I agree with Arnie. If you think you can understand God and His plans you are lying to ourself.Firstly the Bible says many times that God is to great for our understanding and the thought and plans of a human are meaningless.Secondly it also says that no-one(not even Jesus) knows when the second coming is.So you ask what am I getting at? Well saying you understand the way God works with time and using it to interpret when the second coming is going to be, is a lei from the devil. And teaching such things would indeed be wrong as Arnie stated.I've read the verses concerning about this in 4 different translation and I also looked up other verses which are similar. I think this verse is showing us that we must not be impatient. If someone asked you to wait 1 day or even 10 days, for something great, would you mind waiting? Well if you will it would be so much worse waiting for 1000 years or 10000 years, it just shows us that we must be prepared to wait on God because things that might seem an eternity to us is only a day to Him.The NLV Bible uses the word LIKE which I find very important it does not say 1 day IS 1000 years it says it is LIKE 1000 years. Its just a way Peter used to show the people how great God is.You can use it to try and understand more about how God works and what He is like but don't ever think you understand Him or His ways completely. Then you should go read Ephesians again.Love to you all and I pray that the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to all of you as well as to me. I say again what we humans think we know is so meaningless. Let God show you His truth

Normally when people say things like this I find its because you have not been taught to understand the things of scripture You are correct in that no one knows the hour or the day but God in fact told us to learn the season, He told the aspostels the signs he gave us revelation, he gave us daniel He says he foretold us all things to not learn and understand these things is what will cause you to be fooled by the devil. Not the other way around. I hope you will learn something here. So you can see how mistaken you are.God did not spend half the book telling us future things so no one would get them.

Just pointing out, from what is said thus far... the Lord's Day = the millennium.Arnie, nice red herring there, but we're not putting dates on things here other than what's told, rather clearly, in II Peter 3:8.
