Quick review of Revelation 17 (kjv)

First off, let me start by saying I am in no way an expert on Revelation. My studying of the bible has always been personal (just me and God) and I've never studied it in an educational setting before (though I aspire to one day). For what it's worth, this is a small attempt at delving deeper into eschatology and hopefully I will learn along the way.

I'm not entirely settled in my opinions and admittedly not every point I make will be backed by several verses of scripture but that doesn't mean I don't have reasons for rejecting interpretations when I weigh them with other fragments of information that I ascribe to. I can be strong in my views though.

I feel compelled to make this thread in order to warn other Christians about what I am witnessing in my studies. I'm sure I'm not the only one to come to these conclusions. Some coincidences are too pristine. Though I accept Preterism, Historicism, and Idealism all possess unique merits, I do ascribe to Futurism as it is the view that I've found to coincide with the most evidence. I don't mean to offend any Catholics present with some of my conclusions but I must interpret scripture in light of the reality of what I'm reading and experiencing.

Precisely what Futurism is can be read of here: Futurism (Christianity) - Wikipedia

Note The Ecumenical Movement: "the movement or tendency toward worldwide Christian unity or cooperation. The term, of recent origin, emphasizes what is viewed as the universality of the Christian churches."

Ecumenism | Christianity

While this may sound like a nice unifying idea and a logical step forward for the future of Christianity, it would raise the critical issue of under which doctrinal authority Christianity is to proceed. I believe the Roman Catholic Church would use such unification as an opportunity to impose its historic authority upon remaining Protestant denominations, whiping them out. As critics mention, "Martin Luther's rebellion would finally be over" There is also the potential that, if the Ecumenical Movement were to succeed, that it would not stop there, but would act as a bedrock for a unifying of all major world religions, beginning with the schisms of contemporary Christianity before seeking to incorporate Abrahamic religions Islam and Judaism, then fornicating with eastern mysticism and new age spiritualism to accomplish this Satanic goal.

I predict that the one residing in the position of vicar of Christ (Pope) at this time will perform signs and wonders that serve to encourage the world to bow down and worship the Antichrist, thereby fulfilling the role of the false prophet.

Revelation 18 involves the Whore of Babylon. Who or what is this "Whore" and who or what is Babylon? We known that our Lord likens his bride to a pure virgin (2 Cor 11:2) while He likens those who break the first commandment by pursuing other gods (idolatry) as being prostitutes, guilty of spiritual fornication. The term Fornication, when used in this sense, means to combine, amend, adopt and/or to prioritize elements of foreign worship while simultaneously worshiping the God of Israel, thus polluting the pure worship of the one true God with adulterates. Idolatry is also known as spiritual adultery and "harlot" is another word for "whore." As Christians we are not to compromise the fundamentals of the pure gospel of Christ with worldly notions of spirituality and philosophy.

The book of Jeremiah is centered around the prophet Jeremiah prophsying that Israel will be punished by ancient Babylon as it was a kingdom that did, at one time, physically exist. But there is also another Babylon in eschatology known as "Mystery Babylon" which we will be discussing in this thread. Who or What is Mystery Babylon spoken of in Revelation 17?
There are a number of theories that it could be anything from: The United Nations, a Global Political/Financial System, The Vatican, secret society cabal, a country like the United States, or something else entirely.

We do expect that it will be an entity with immense power to effect global events and that the Antichrist will likely harness it in some way as a vehicle to carry out his ends.

I believe there was a time when the Vatican was not not altogether separate from the political systems it was involved in. This would be an example of Fornication with the world.

Revelation 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

Revelation 17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

Revelation 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

In a manner of speaking, hills are just small mountains. The Whore sits on seven hills. Rome is known as "the city of 7 hills" the Vatican is located in Rome and surrounded by the Adriatic sea, Ionian sea, Tyrrhenian sea (many waters).

Revelation 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

_

Revelation 17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

In Vatican counsels, Cardinals wear red (scarlet) while Bishops and Arch Bishops wear Purple. The Vatican is also immensely wealthy.
_

Revelation 17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

Within the duration of the Protestant Reformation which began at 1517, some scholars estimate up to tens of millions of Protestants were killed under authority of the Roman Catholic Church.

Below is an 8-minute video about elite globalist business and thought leaders meeting with Pope Francis in 2016 to discuss how achieve the objective of connecting everyone in the world to a central banking system which would underscore a one world currency.

Revelation 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Revelation 18:11-13 And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more: The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, 13 And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.

With population growth expected to increase exponentially in the near future; with the rise of automation, AI and other various manual job replacing technologies; with a growing number of working and unemployed poor, the general populations per society will not be focused on spending money on entertainment. They will be focused on purchasing commodities essential to basic survival like water, food, clothing, and shelter. In the future, all of those big businesses and companies that trade in unessential goods and services will become extinct for lack of public need. The elite merchants of the world have created so much leisure junk that is inherently, at the end of the day, worthless to survival, and will not last in the long run. In the future, many of these big international companies will lose their consumers—Thus fulfilling Revelation 18.

Anyway, I look forward to your comments, brethren.

For starters, this is well put, Friend Of. I won't be meaning to offend Catholics by any of my responses either, and I think it's important to express not having any ill-will towards them.

About this, I believe she will head up mainline denominationalism as the "mother of the harlots," but I personally don't go so far as to think she will be unifying the world religions. Revelations states that the ten kings will hate the whore, and burn her with fire, and I believe the beast will be the Islamic Caliphate. That means that while they may try to unite with other religions, they will most certainly not unite with Islam, which is currently the fastest growing religion on earth.

I believe the Muslim Jesus will fulfill the role of the False Prophet of Revelations. I'm not sure the Pope when this time comes will move in supernatural miracles, but it is certainly possible I suppose.

This is fairly well written.
Revelation 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

In a manner of speaking, hills are just small mountains. The Whore sits on seven hills. Rome is known as "the city of 7 hills"

Well actually, this is just a parallel to what the verse is actually talking about here. The hills represent 7 kingdoms that will make up the Antichrist's empire. Initially there will be ten kingdoms/ nations, hence the ten kings. But when the Antichrist arises he will "pluck up three by the roots," meaning he will assume rule over three of the former ten. Mountains/hills in scripture are analogous with kingdoms.

Now this is an interesting parallel I hadn't seen before. They do tend to wear a lot of scarlet... which is indeed the color often associated with prostitution. It doesn't HAVE to mean this, of course, but under the circumstances it becomes an interesting parallel.

I believe in context this is more a reference to what she will do in the end-times than to anything that occurred in the past, but there are certainly correlations with it.

This part I would disagree with, Friend Of. I suppose it is possible that a figurative "destruction" could befall Rome through financial downfall, but that doesn't seem to mesh with the Biblical narrative. The merchants of the earth stand afar off when her destruction by fire comes, which suggests her destruction will be a literal one rather than figurative. But I'm glad you are looking into these things.

P.S. If you can, please demand that this thread be kept civil if it starts getting activity. It appears this one went under the radar until Byrd responded, and now that I am it may start drawing attention. When the SDAs and Catholics get started, it will likely turn decidedly unpleasant, which is not the direction you appear to have desired that it go in.

Blessings in Christ.
