You left out the whole yankee army. Why?

Yes I can write the same sentence. So?

Mary, you are such a liar. The point of the author of the book, you recommended, is that Quantrill did what he did in response to what occurred before. But now you, because you have been taught some history, want to say they were all evil. You are not acknowledging your ignorance of history and only confirming your bias in what you have taught.

Stranger
You couldn't, just like I knew you wouldn't, write the same sentence because your mind has been poisoned.

Thank you for your kind words. I am truly a liar and ignorant. You are very observant.....;)

You have made such a convincing argument that I am now on your side of history: Quantrill and men of his ilk were great men who should be looked up to and admired. I will now change my name from Marymog to Judas.....a man I can admire.

My prayers are with you.....Mary

I thought you read the book??? If you had you wouldn't need me to give you the page number.

I will partially appease you: Page 285 for the letter from McCulloch....You can find the other thing (W. Gregg's disillusionment) on your own.

Also, look for the part in the book where Quantrill LIED in a letter to his commanding General and LIED to the people of Jackson County.

Your bizarre statement was to say I only believe what I read about Quantrill because I didn't know him personally. Please, do tell Stranger: Did you know him personally??? Is that why you hold him in such high regard??? Or have you only read about him???? o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O

The title of this thread is "Lessons for historical Mary". I have learned nothing FROM you but I have learned a lot about you.

What I have learned about you makes me sad for you. I truly feel sorry for you Stranger. For you to hold in high regard a person who did all the terrible things he did and to defend him and his ilk and slavery is sad and un-Christian like. I have been kind to you and you return that kindness by trying to degrade me.

I don't take it personal. I am willing to bet if we were to meet face to face you wouldn't be so mean and abrasive. I suspect you would be a coward to my face but the computer gives you anonymity.

I wish you well. I am glad I was able to teach you about the Reverend Cordley's letter and the bad things that Quantrill's own 'supporters' said about him.

My prayers are with you.

Mary

I have and am reading the book, as I told you. And am keeping you informed of it's content. Which is contrary to your original presentation of Quantrill.

The letter on (p. 285) is a letter McCulloch wrote to Gen. Kirby Smith who was in charge of the whole trans-Mississippi Confederate Army. McCollough was commander of the Northern Subdistrict which made him Quantrill's immediate superior. (p. 285)

McCollough did not know Quantrill and reported in the letter what he had heard of Quantrill. McCollough was from Texas and had not experienced the things in Kansas and Missouri that Quantrill and his men had experienced. He admitted so at the beginning of the letter. "I do not know as much about his mode of warfare as others seem to know...." So he was going on hearsay.

From what he heard, he believed Quantrills method of warfare was savage, inhuman, and should be disavowed by the Confederate govt. (p. 285) But did he know that Quantrills men were to be shot down as dogs upon capture? That they had already been shot down as dogs upon capture? That their women folk had been murdered as dogs in prison? All of this I have showed you Mary...which you of course fail to recognize other than your brief comment of your against all like that. Well if your against all that act like that, then you should be against the whole yankee army that tried to destroy all the Southern civilian population. But you not. And you should understand why Quantrill fought like that because he and his people were being treated like that.

And the author of the book stated that Kirby Smith, who McCollough was writing to said, "General Smith did not share McCulloch's negativism". (p. 285)

Foolish Mary. The statement wasnt' bizarre. You accused me of only knowing about Quantrill what someone else said. Well, that is all you know about him also. Yet, it is seen that you didn't even know that much of what has been said. You know only what they told you, and that is what you taught.

I know you will not learn anything from me. As I said earlier, you can't. You have taught the lie for so many years, there is no correcting it now. To admit that you have taught the lie would be to great a burden to bear. I understand. You have no way of correcting it.

Your kindness is feigned. You want to be kind as long as you're allowed to keep your mistaken beliefs about Quantrill. And I do not allow that. The fact that you have taught such lies and refuse to admit it is deplorable.

You have not taught anything about Cordley yet. Give me the page number of where you get this information. As I said earlier, one of the preachers in Lawrence was riding with the jayhawkers and stole from churches of Southern sympathizers to build his church. What do you think about that Mary? For all I know that was Cordley. No doubt Cordley was an abolitionist as Lawrence was an abolitionist town. You haven't taught me anything yet other than your bias to protect your past failure as a history teacher.

It is because you statement was not the truth. You refuse to acknowledge the yankee army as the ones who provoked these attacks on the Southernors in Missouri and Kansas.

Yes, I am very observant.

No, as with everything you say concerning me, it is feigned. You are not on my side, and you and I know it. And I don't expect you to be. How could you, having taught just the opposite for so many years? You taught for many years yet didn't even know the difference between Quantrill and jayhawkers.

Just remember before you get to feeling to sorry for yourself, you're the one that attacked me concerning my use of the name 'Quantrill'. So if you got any kind of 'fortitude' in you at all, you will continue with the discussion. Else, you recognize Quantrill and his men put you to shame.

1st: You haven't taught me anything because I read the book BEFORE YOU so all your quoting is not new to me....I have learned NOTHING from your quotes.

2nd: If you don't want to take the time and read Reverend Cordley's letter (I have a sneaking suspicion you have already but are playing like you haven't) then that's your choice and your PROBLEM....not mine. The information is out there.....go get it and stop expecting me to coddle you which leads me to point #3

3rd: If you continue to be disrespectful to me then I will no longer engage with you. You don't have to be a an donkey (Definition of JACKASS) to get your point across. Either you are a southerner or you sympathize with southerners. Please act like a southern gentlemen instead of a northern donkey. Your giving all other southerners a bad name.

You have no idea what I have taught so stop acting like you do....It shows your fear of me.

I have not even commented on the difference between Quantrill and jayhawkers so how could you come to that ignorant conclusion???

I do not feel sorry for myself (another bizarre statement by you)....I feel sorry for you for taking on the name of a brutal killer and thief and identifying with him and his ilk. There are many CHRISTIAN screen names you could take on....you have chosen a name synonymous with and associated to evil. That shows YOUR CHARACTER not mine.

PS...As you may have noticed I stooped down to your level in this response. We can continue name calling and be-littleing each other OR you can start acting more mature....YOU CHOOSE.

If you read the book before you certainly don't show it. If you have learned nothing from the quotes of the book you recommended, then there is no teaching you anything. The book is clear about things you didn't have the slightest idea about.

Concerning Cordley's letter I haven't read it yet. I am still reading the book but slowed down since you baled on me. I responded to your accusation against Quantrill concerning McCollough. Gave you some quotes from your book. Yet you say nothing of that. You just keep harping on Cordley. Understand that whatever Quantrill's men did at Lawrence makes no matter to me. Because if you paid attention to the history of what had gone on before, you would recognize why it happened.

You have got a picture in your mind of Quantrill, and it is what you have taught as a teacher. And hell itself couldn't make you admit you were wrong. But, you were. And you are.

Of course, all yankees want the Southernors to act like gentlemen as they slaughter them. Be nice to me so I can kill you. Don't be like Quantrill who fights dirty. Just because he is outnumbered 10 to 1, doesn't mean he shouldn't meet the yankees out in the open. Sure. yankees love those gentlemen ways.

Sorry, Mary, I don't like Quantrill for nothing.

Fear you? Not hardly. I fear the damage you have done to young minds in perpetrating your lies about Quantrill. Something you cannot undue since you are retired.

Yes you did. You gave a quote at the beginning and the one you quoted didn't know the difference between Quantrill's men and jayhawkers. I told you that was awful strange and you said you didn't care what they called them. That shows you didn't know the difference between Quantrill and the jayhawkers. Yet the book you recommended explained it perfectly. Which you say you read.

Don't feel sorry for me Mary. It doesn't affect me.

You're the one that goaded me into this discussion. You dared me to quote from the book we are discussing. You belittled Quantrill in the process, and me for taking the name. So, you stooped a while back. Don't blame me. And now you leave with a parting insult. Yet I am sure you want me to be the Southern gentlemen. Like I said, I didn't take the name Quantrill without reason.

All I ask of you is a certain degree of honesty concerning the book you recommended. Which you haven't shown. And I don't expect it.

STOP suggesting I didn't read the book......I read the book.....END OF DISCUSSION.

STOP
make false allusions.

STOP acting like there were things I didn't have the slightest idea about. You haven't taught me anything. The fact is I got tired of reading your post (and your condescending remarks) because you kept quoting from a book I have already read. THAT IS BORING.

We have barely scratched the surface of ALL THE FACTS in the book and you continue to suggest I haven't read the book or know what I am talking about. Completely and utterly unfair.

I DON'T have a "picture" of Quantrill in my mind. He was a MINOR part of the war. A mere footnote. He was briefly spoken about while teaching the war so STOP talking about me like you know me or how I teach. Why don't you type up a 5,000 word document about the war from beginning to end and see how many words you spend on Quantrill and the Lawrence Massacre. The words will be few and insignificant. There is NOTHING to admit that I taught anything "wrong" about him. So please STOP making ignorant (uneducated) statements.

HIS ACTIONS, his own words, his own poor decisions have made him out to be 'the devil' in history books. If he would have attacked enemy soldiers and military forts only he would have been more respected and found greater favor in history books.

HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS BAD NAME....Not Marymog. So take a reality pill, sip some of your Kool-Aid to wash it down, and stop making it sound like I made him a bad guy.

This entire conversation started because you accidently revealed that you have chosen the name Quantrill on another website. You don't seem to be embarrassed by that name but we all have our own level of tolerance.

How could you have read the book and come up with the things you say. The book continually offers explanation of why Quantrill and his men did the things they did. Something you have totally ignored.

Are you trying to tell me you didn't teach the things you are perpetrating now? Please...you taught exactly like the things you are trying to pull now.

No, he is not the 'devil' you make him out to be. He was a man acting on the things against him in his day. Something you never acknowledge. Did you see the quote I gave that proved the only reason he resorted to no prisoners, was because the yankee army shot on sight all of Quantrill's men who were captured. Did you see that Mary. Cause and affect. Something you refuse to acknowledge.

No, the yankee media and winners of that war are responsible for Quantrill's bad name. You just 'inhaled' the smoke they blew at you. They lied all the way through that war, and they lied about Quantrill. Why? Cause they did fear him. They feared the rest of the Southern Army would practice the warfare Quantrill practiced. Which they should have.

It was by accident but it wasn't to you I was talking to. But you jumped like a chicken on a junebug. So, here we are. Of course I am not embarassed by the name Quantrill.

If you had known the difference you would have cared. Believe me, those living in that day knew the difference. Which is what made your quote, questionable.

Quantrill did HORRIBLE things because HORRIBLE things were done to him and people he identified with. A tit for tat if you will!! You want to excuse his bad behavior because of other's bad behavior. That is exactly what the Bible teaches also.....o_O

You should be embarrassed by the name Quantrill. That name is associated with killing innocent people, stealing, robbery, kidnapping, enslavement and returning human beings to their "owners" (slavery).

Since you are ok with slavery, are you ok with this kind of slavery: Operation Underground Railroad

How does one "legally" obtain a slave Quantrill???

Is it ok to steal only from people who have done you wrong or any person Quantrill???

You ignore the historical fact that the yankees shot Quantrill's men like dogs first before he began his 'no prisoner' policy.

It was war Mary. Do you understand. No, you don't.

See, in one post you demand a quote as how have you belittled Quantrill. Then you make these statements. Please. And, returning slaves was the law by the Constitution. Quantrill was obeying the Law. The yankees were not obeying the Law. But who is the outlaw? It is the one who lost the war.

How does one legally obtain a slave? He buys them.

Slavery was legal during that time. So yes it was ok.

It was war Mary. It's easy for you call one a murderer when you don't have to experience what they are experiencing.

Oh, really. What did you call him?

If I lived back in that day, no, I would not have tried to free the slaves. The Underground railroad was against the laws of the land, the Constitution. Is it ok to break the laws laid down in the Constitution Mary?

Still curious Mary?

You ignore the historical fact that the yankees shot Quantrill's men like dogs first before he began his 'no prisoner' policy.

It was war Mary. Do you understand. No, you don't.

See, in one post you demand a quote as how have you belittled Quantrill. Then you make these statements. Please. And, returning slaves was the law by the Constitution. Quantrill was obeying the Law. The yankees were not obeying the Law. But who is the outlaw? It is the one who lost the war.

How does one legally obtain a slave? He buys them.

Slavery was legal during that time. So yes it was ok.

Hi Quantrill (who was pro-slavery)

I didn't ignore it. I CLEARLY addressed it. See if you can find it....I'm done repeating myself.

Sooooo you can't quote any statement from me where I belittled him?????? Moving on....;)

How does one obtain a slave today????

Hi Quantrill (who was known to capture humans for a bounty payment),

Was the only people Qantrill killed enemy combatants?????

I didn't call him the devil.....read what I wrote instead of what you think I wrote. I'm not going to coddle you and repeat myself.

I didn't ask you anything about back in the day. I asked you about what is going on TODAY!! I asked if you are willing to free these Operation Underground Railroad slaves?? Are you willing??

Fascinating!!!
Are you saying BEFORE The Thirteenth Amendment you would not have tried to free en-slaved people but AFTER the passing of the Amendment you would have tried to free en-slaved people????

VERY curious Mary

If you didn't ignore it then you realize that the yankees are responsible for killing Quantrill's men showing no quarter before Quanrill did. Cause and affect Mary. But of course you just blame Quantrill. He is the murderer. Not the yankees.

Oh please Mary, you belittle Quantrill from the start. Don't try and say you don't now.

There is no institution of slavery today. Why, are you looking for one?

Yes Quantrill was known to obey the Constitution. Funny how the victors of the war are the ones who disobeyed the Constitution but are now the 'good guys'. The ones who obeyed, as Quantrill did, are now the bad guys. Seems there is Scripture concerning that somewhere.

There are no underground slaves today. Unless you're talking to the NAACP, then by all means all Africans in this country are still slaves. Pay attention Mary, if you are asking me a question about the underground railroad in the 1860's, then I have to answer in accordance to that time. And no I wouldn't have freed a single one. They needed to be returned back to their masters.

After the 13th amendment there were no slaves to free, contrary to what the NAACP likes to present the black man as.

Why so curious Mary?
