Not all gifts ceased. But the apostle's signs and wonders ceased. And Scripture is the perfect that replaced tongues, prophecy and knowledge.

Yet the scripture says, "Do not forbid to speak with tongues," and "praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God." and "desire the best gifts, but especially that you might prophesy."

If scripture is perfect, then we are to obey all of it; which includes its protocol for using the gifts in a church setting. Which would indicate that the gifts have not ceased.
At the time of writing it was still the Apostolic period and the Epistles were not complete.

The clearest scripture stating that the Holy Spirit baptism was indeed a separate event from salvation and water baptism is Acts 8.

who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 8:15‭-‬16 NASB

If prophecy has been done away with then surely I am a false prophet for I've stood and prophesied in congregations and to individuals.

I prophesied that God told me he was sending my wife and I a son. My son, now, 38, will be shocked to find it's all a big mistake.

What denominational naysayers and parrots of seminary taught doctors of religion fail to realize is that God rebukes them through the mouths of others but they are too spiritually obtuse to see it.

Perhaps if they could obtain a descendant of Baalam's jackass he could explain to them far far better than I.

That's not a logical conclusion. The Word of God as given indeed abides for ever; the transitional Apostolic era gifts do not.
I don't think that you have been following the discussion.

If you look at 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21, 1 Corinthians 12, and 1 Corinthians 14, you have to admit that the word of the Lord gives provision for the use of spiritual gifts in the church. Now do those scriptures apply to us today, or do they only apply to those people to whom they were not written (who may have been privy to what they said) but those to whom they were written are those of us who have read these scriptures down the centuries; for the word of the Lord endures for ever; and therefore it applies to those of us who pick up our Bibles and read them today.

Verses that tell us to covet the best spiritual gifts; verses that tell us what the spiritual gifts are (but according to some people, we can pick and choose which of these are truly valid).

The context relates to whether the Scriptures are now complete. At that time they were not.

If scriptures that apply to the use of spiritual gifts (and their validity in the church) don't apply to us today, then any scripture that I read may not apply today. Where do you draw the line? I can now pick and choose any scripture and say that it does not apply to me because it was only written to them, then. So I can reject the Spirit's testimony to me on what He wants to say. Smorgasborg religion, as I have said.

Again, the completion of Scripture is the key to understanding the transitional Apostolic era, with its sign gifts, etc.

Yet the scripture says, "Do not forbid to speak with tongues," and "praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God." and "desire the best gifts, but especially that you might prophesy."
But Paul then says:

“But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:31) (NASB95)

“Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.” (1 Corinthians 13:8–10) (NASB95)

Scripture is perfect and does a better job.

The more excellent way is love itself; which is not to say that coveting the best gifts isn't excellent to a lesser degree.

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (kjv): Charity never faileth: but whether there are prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease: whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

If I am speaking in tongues in the present moment, there will come a moment where I cease to pray through that venue (see Luke 11:1); which is not to say that I will not pick up and pray in tongues again later. The gifts and the calling of God are without repentance (irrevocable). There will come a day when tongues are no longer needed in order to keep ourselves in the love of God. That day is not today; today we still have spiritual enemies that have not been defeated in the practical sense (although they are defeated because of the Cross; they are still fighting from the position of defeat). We will not always need knowledge of things like history or science; and once that knowledge is not needed any more it will vanish away. After we have been in heaven for 10,000 years, we will probably not remember any more of earth, not because God wiped out our memory but because it will not have relevance any longer and the glories of heaven will overwhelm the memory of earth so that it will be nonexistent except as a faded memory that no longer comes to mind.

So then, neither will prophecies be done away.

Tongues and prophecy ceased with the perfect (Greek = completed) NT. People get a buzz speaking in tongues but it is not the genuine gift. I think many assume the buzz and adrenaline spikes in some "worship services" are the Holy Spirit. But I think it is similar to what football junkies experience.
